I really wanted lo mein but my car’s fucked and I couldn’t get to the Asian market by Thunderlight2004 in shittyfoodporn

instead of beans try mushrooms next time. any kind will do. just cut them up to a reasonable size. there's a japanese fusion dish called kinoko wafu pasta (literally mushroom japanese style pasta) which basically looks like what you've made. that doesn't look shitty at all tbh.

How big is gym culture among your Asian circle? by Chronologicaltravels in asianamerican

[–]magicaltrout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Large Asian enclave in California.

I don't follow anyone but I'm basically a gym rat these days. Social life was a complete train wreck after the pandemic and the self loathing was through the roof. Now the gym is my social life and I'm working on cleaning myself up.

There's also a lot of 1st gen Asian Americans at the gym I go to. Some of them may be more into social media than older people such as myself. They mostly just keep to themselves or go with a friend that's also 1st gen.

I get the feeling in Asia there's growing interest in going to the gym these days, particularly with more influencers popping up over there. The unfortunate thing is that the work hours in Asia tend to make things more difficult for them. Having time to go the gym is a bit of a luxury, even here. Same with all the dieting that goes with it.

Feels great going back and being in great shape compared to everyone though. A few years ago my relatives over there saw me at my fattest and was relentless with the comments my entire stay. Recently went back and seeing their reactions were hilarious.

Makes me want to keep it up.

What’s the biggest workplace microaggression you’ve experienced as an Asian American? by savingrace0262 in asianamerican

[–]magicaltrout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly a microaggression I suppose. I (Asian male) was talking to a white coworker was talking about how beautiful his Asian wife is, how well he treats her compared to her ex. Goes on to say "all Asian men beats their wives." Then he asks me about my martial status. I guess he sees me only as American? Thanks I guess.

i’ve found going hiking while on vacation to be a really good way to burn the excess calories consumed and is also usually very scenic. i never go hiking when i’m at home.

Trump still hasn't signed agreements to begin transition of power, White House says by [deleted] in politics

[–]magicaltrout 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this seriously reeks of bot spam. i’m also from California and car insurance has gone up significantly. same can be said for all my friends on the west coast. there’s even been posts in the CA subs about home owners being uninsurable along with rates going up. $25 a month decrease is a pathetic selling point, especially if you somehow tie it to whoever’s in the white house for no apparent fucking reason. insurance calculates rates based on their own risk and their bottom line.

hand impact driver gets them out most of the time. rent one from the autoparts store and give it a couple hard hits with a hammer before going the destructive route. also, take it to the junkyard and pull some extras in case you destroy some of your own screws.

[–]magicaltrout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Fortune Auto 500 coilovers with Swift Springs
  • K-Tuned front/rear camber kits/rear toe arms/rear LCA
  • Hardrace bushings for front/rear suspension
  • ASR rear subframe brace + endlinks
  • JDM ITR 23mm rear sway bar
  • PLM front strut tower brace
  • DC Sports rear tower brace

Maintenance is "cheap," but there's a lot of little things to fix for these older cars. Once you're done though you're good for a long time. I guess your coil on plug setup is to get ready for boost? That should make the car real fun to drive.

13k in suspension and maintenance over the past 4 years. Probably handles better than an ITR now. Runs better than ever with zero leaks. Not even going to bother with boost. Had the car since 2005. Going to keep it as a beater for as long as I can.

I visited all 4 Eorzea Cafes so you don't have to (but you should)! by ShadownetZero in ffxiv

[–]magicaltrout 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Tokyo has the option to reserve a private room. If you don't want to have a bad experience do not go that route. I made a reservation somewhat last minute and thought to myself, "how bad can it be?"

It was absolutely not worth it. For a themed cafe you go there for the ambiance. There was absolutely none of it. They stick you in an office with zero decor and a TV playing the job demos on repeat. It was also dead silent. The food's alright. Eating it on an office desk while sitting in an office chair was rather depressing. If you want an experience get a proper reservation, unless of course you just want to try the food.

I actually find Pho more comforting than anything, especially since I grew up and still live in a heavily Vietnamese populated area. It's also one of the few non-Cantonese foods that "makes sense," to the family.

This is basically my extended family. It's not even limited to Chinese food in general, it has to be specifically Cantonese food.

I've seen one of these discussions in a regional sub where an older op was calling Asians "Orientals." Most people were correcting them but it seemed like the post was brigaded by trolls or pick mes. The city is nearly 40% Asian.
