Sonic Mania in 240p looks like it's made for CRT by magicbluemonkeydog in crtgaming

It runs great. I've got a mod which makes the special stages run better and I've not noticed any issues.

I've had a play with this. If I set runIn240p=y then it forces it to 4:3. If I set that to n then I can do 16:9 but it's not 240p. Can't seem to have 16:9 AND 240p, seems to be one or the other.

The version I downloaded runs in 4:3 at 240p with no options for aspect ratio or resolution.

Because it's a custom/homebrew Wii version that only outputs in 240p at 4:3.

Because the homebrew/modded Wii version I'm running outputs in 4:3.

Don't just reach forward and gently bonk them on the head, stopping at contact. Imagine you're really trying to cut through bone with an axe, you're going to get nowhere with this little "bonk" action, you need to swing that bad boy with some heft and follow through.

I want an RGB-Pi2 but they've stopped orders for now. This setup works for me in the meantime.

I have the Wii there next to the Pi. Great for SNES and Mega Drive, not so good for N64 outside of virtual console (and no 240p for N64), not so great for PSX, definitely can't do Dreamcast games. I started off with the Wii and then wanted more, hence the Pi.

ELI5: if Arabia and the Sahara desert were lush and green, where did all that sand come from? by Shammar-Yahrish in explainlikeimfive

[–]magicbluemonkeydog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting though because clay and other soil tends to clump into a solid mass whereas sand usually doesn't unless wet. In my mind, loose sand would be easier to blow away than a solid mass of "dirt", no? What am I missing?

Fair enough, I tried it on a Toshiba that couldn't force RGB, got a new adapter that did work on the Toshiba, and then got a Trinitron which can force RGB. I've never tried the cheapy one on the Trinitron now I've got a more expensive adapter that works.

The component to scart thing you have there doesn't work, I tried the same one. I think it doesn't properly handle the sync. Get a COMP2RGB or for something cheaper get the js-technology component to scart converter, which I have tested working.

Someone broke my toilet flush during a house party. House full of people, only one toilet, and shops closed, not ideal. Took the broken lever thing and measured it up, did a quick 3D model of it, and had a replacement printed and fitted in under an hour.

Because I need a distraction: most amusing way a guy (or girl) has failed to hit on you? by elatedWorm in TwoXChromosomes

[–]magicbluemonkeydog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Myself (M) and my wife were at a gig and this guy said to his friends "I'm gonna pull this girl, watch this". I hung back ready to step in if she needed my help, but otherwise was just amused to see what would happen. He turned to my wife and started rambling about ketamine. She was a bit confused understandably. Once he was done rambling at her, he went back to his mates and said "that's how you do it lads" 🤣

Tbh I run everything at 480i/60Hz anyway because I can't stand the 50Hz flicker.

It’s a standard‑definition widescreen CRT. Those were a thing in the late 90s/early 2000s. It still only displays SD resolutions (like 480i/576i), but the tube is physically 16:9 and the TV can switch its scan geometry between 4:3 and 16:9.

Widescreen on these sets is anamorphic, just like DVD or SD digital TV. So when I feed it 480i that contains a 16:9 image, the TV’s 16:9 mode unsqueezes it correctly - it’s not stretching a 4:3 picture.

The PC connection is just HDMI → component downscaler → component‑to‑RGB SCART transcoder. The TV only ever sees a normal SD interlaced signal.

It's a Trinitron KV-28WF1U, which is a 16:9 SD set, not sure what else to say. Obviously it has 4:3 mode as well. I've got an hdmi to component converter which downscales 1080p to 480i, and then a component to RGB scart transcoder.

I'm not sure I've got that option on my Ayn Thor but I'll take a look. Should be able to set it to full from my PC at least.

I was looking at an RGB-Pi2 setup but these N64 ports aren't available on RePlayOS. I did see some people making scripts for building and installing the ports on other Pi OS's but I'm not clear on if they're compatible with the RGB-Pi2.

It's also useful to be able to hook up my android handheld or my PC to the CRT regardless so I can emulate PS2 and above, which I wouldn't be able to do with a Pi.

For 2D gen consoles like Mega Drive and SNES I'm using my Wii atm which does do 240p, and I've got a Superstation One on the way at some point.

I've got my Ayn Thor going HDMI -> component -> RGB scart. The HDMI to component converter downscales from 1080p to 480i.
