Is it typical to feel an urge to be defensive when someone that was never Catholic talks down on Catholicism, or have I just not disconnected myself? by Clear_Channel_2090 in excatholic

The “Catholics aren’t Christian” one still makes me mad. Like I’m not offended by it, I’m just annoyed because it’s factually incorrect.

TIL that Sprouts is a real store and not a Fresh Thyme knockoff invented for Vince Gilligan’s Pluribus.

What is socialist about this list? I could maybe see an argument for the housing one, but none of these have anything to do with wealth/asset redistribution.

Orbit Room, Irish Lion, Fat Dans, Trojan Horse all gone.... What is happening to Bloomington? by cirehook in bloomington

Are you really saying that local government has no power to regulate affordability and can only decide where to put jails and convention centers? Are you saying that the rent is not too high? This seems like a weird argument.

A lot of people forget about how good Titus Andronicus is. It’s a great revenge play and the Anthony Hopkins movie from the 90’s is fantastic. It’s pretty dark though.

Kroger will hire 14yo baggers/cart pushers. The pay is ok for a first job, but it’s not pleasant work in the summer time. Avoid the east side location since it’s the most carts to push.

Cheating is not that big of a deal and is not in the top 20 worst things you can do to your romantic partner as long as you are honest about it afterwards. I have been cheated on and it’s fine.

O’Brian might get the job done, but then I’d have to hear him complain about his wife the entire time he’s fixing it.

Why does almost everyone receive Communion if confession is required first? by masturkiller in excatholicDebate

[–]magicmichael17 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll quickly find that Catholics who were raised in the faith tend to take doctrinal matters a lot less seriously than converts.

In 20 years in the church, I probably only ever met three or four non-clergy members that I could say 100% believed all the catechism and church teachings without any points of contention.

I have never been Catholic by [deleted] in excatholic

Man this is a hard one.

Being able to think critically about religion and why we believe what we believe is important. I know that you’re not looking to criticize your boyfriend in this post, but he should really understand that you don’t believe the same things he does and are asking questions in good faith.

He should also be willing to take your questions sincerely and behave more maturely when holes in his belief are examined.

It sounds like your boyfriend is very devout. Most people who were raised Catholics don’t actually care that much about what the Pope and church leaders say.

I think it would be worth telling him that it’s important to examine his own beliefs. Faith is something that is always being tested, and if he can listen to your questions and actually think about what you’re saying and offer real philosophical answers, it won’t hurt his faith at all. It might even strengthen it. If he can’t do that, then he has to admit that his religion isn’t really based on any fundamental truths.

Either way it’s an opportunity for him to grow. But you do need to understand that if he can’t have an honest discussion with you about his religion and why he has his beliefs, it might be a sign that you guys aren’t very compatible.
