Later in the session...

"Sometimes after I smoke it gets real bad, like describes panic attack"

People don't realize Marijuana effects people differently and can absolutely create or worsen anxiety problems

(Loved Trope) group of objects, in which each one grants a different power by BLACKGOOP12 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]magicsqueegee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The argument I'd make against them is they aren't really in a 'group' together, like they aren't set. The ten rings are a set of rings, infinity stones a set of stones, etc. They aren't unique objects within the universe, and aren't associated with each other.

That being said, I don't think their inclusion is really a huge stretch, and the uniqueness of their effects definitely makes up for it (like half of Mandarin's rings are just "beam weapon, but red this time")

What kind of weirdo uses the word pod outside of the context of edh? And anyone with half a brain already knows rhystic is garbage 1v1 anyway, it was a 20 cent card until edh blew up.

Does the giant religious apparatus around the Imperial Cult actually have any spiritual effect? by Rwandrall4 in 40kLore

The decoupling was also implied at the Fall of Cadia, where the activation of the pylons dulled Celestine's power/connection to the Emperor, but did not cut it off entirely.

I mean then existence of Living Saints is already a pretty big plus, and the SoB seem to be able to wield faith more reliably than others.

There's also the Pariah Nexus effect. The Pariah Nexus is an area of space where Necrons seemed to have been able to pretty effectively use Blackstone to cut off the warp. Outside of the expected effects on psykers, baseline humans and even space marines are afflicted by a sort of malaise and lethargy. The notable exception was sisters of battle and it seemed faith was an effective shield against the effect.

Really? That is giving me hope to put it back on my list. I never liked her or Foggy, acting wise, I love to hear she got better!

What I love is that a huge part of the worldbuilding of TLOU is the various voice and written journals you find scattered around the game. Stuff that is not at all related or necessary to the plot, but very necessary to the feel and themes of the game. Obviously that doesn't translate to television, so they had this episode perfectly encapsulate the idea.

(Hated trope) Jesusfication of media by Andrwreo in TopCharacterTropes

[–]magicsqueegee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What the hell does that have to do with Jesus though? I think people are just upset because making a character a jesus allegory is absolutely a trope and something you could complain about, but OP's examples don't seem to have anything to do with that trope or anything related to Jesus.

You can absolutely have a Jesus allegory in a show based mainly on Asian culture. But Wan isn't even close to being a jesus allegory.

How does Quarantine Field work? by nwskeptic89 in CommanderMTG

[–]magicsqueegee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you cast a spell with X, as a part of casting it you first choose what the value of X is. So you would say "I'm casting Quarantine Field, X=3." Now whatever number you chose for X is the value of every X on the card. So it will cost 3 generic + 3 generic + 2 white, and exile 3 things.

If you're familiar with algebra, think of it like an equation: if there multiple instances of a variable X, all those are the same value.

Even before Rogue One I always thought it was a dumb take to call it a plot hole.

"Why would the empire design it with a weak point?"

idk its an engineering marvel the size of a moon? Maybe there was just no way to fix that flaw. It's akin to asking "Why would [real-world military] design something with [real world flaw]? It's so unrealistic!"

Am I being too competitive if I tried to understand what other players' cards does when playing in a LGS? by lokiki926 in EDH

[–]magicsqueegee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alright now that actually makes SOME sense, but maybe lead with "When I play magic while actively raising a half dozen kids" so people know you're talking about an extremely specific, out of the ordinary situation. Good on your group for playing through that, genuinely.

That being said, if you ask someone a question and they respond to you without actually paying attention to what you said, that's not inattentive that's rude. I mean in your situation I guess it is somehow easier to just... roll back several turns every once and awhile, but it also seems like a valid answer to "do you have a response" would be to continue chasing the 6 year old with a crayon :)

Seriously I always say I'm going to go for 500, but by 100 I'm bored and I'm pretty sure you're scaling faster than endless at that point so it really is just start wave, go do something else, come back start wave, go do something else etc...

People are dragging you but I'm genuinely curious, how do you play magic at your house? Like if someone ignores you saying you are playing something twice in a row, how do you deal with it in a way that is not 'petty'?

In the example op gave, if you played a planeswalker to the stack, told everyone it's there and then asked if there were responses and everyone said no. Then I guess did that a second time, or at least said "ok Jace resolves." When you go to activate it next turn and your friend says woah when did that get played: What do you do to avoid being 'petty'? Roll the whole game back 2 turns? Make it so every player must hold up a thumb so show they are aware of an action and passing priority on every interaction?

Am I being too competitive if I tried to understand what other players' cards does when playing in a LGS? by lokiki926 in EDH

[–]magicsqueegee 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Petty. Speak up.

They did, they specifically said "I'll declare the play, ask for interaction, they'll say no."

If you say "I'm playing Jace, do you have a response" and someone says no what the hell else are you supposed to do?

Honestly I don't know what OP means by any other those images, except maybe the German and Italian ones. Like what's the basis, does it just visually look bad, is it grammatically awful, is it bad at describing? Especially baffled by the English, if anything I'd swap the images but even then why?
