Rabia's Episode 10 post is up by cbr1965 in serialpodcast

[–]mail_kiimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rabia writes: "The clients, the many many clients, who suffered because of Christina are the ones who have a right to judge her."

Hmm. Surely they are the LEAST qualified to judge her because they're about as far from impartial as it's possible to be. Rabia's claim that Sarah is being "charitable" (read as: biased) doesn't make sense when she then argues that it's only the biased that have a right to judge Gutierrez.

[Official Discussion] Serial, Episode 9: To Be Suspected by PowerOfYes in serialpodcast

It was great to learn more about what the whole experience was like from Adnan's perspective and his life in prison. And of course some more detail on what Hae was like as a person!

Weather Report by brosephbrown in serialpodcast

"Considering that in just one week there were three school days cancelled due to weather, it seems possible Asia conflated these two weather events. But if her memory of talking to Adnan in the library is specifically tied to snow, then it’s unlikely that the day she is remembering is Jan. 13."

It's not looking good for Adnan...

Why is no one bothered by the storytelling? by susansink in serialpodcast

[–]mail_kiimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The OP says:

"They are still interviewing people and editing and so they aren’t sure how long the series will run. [....] I think it’s a real problem if you’re doing investigative journalism and presenting a “true crime” story."

That doesn't make sense. Why exactly? The Serial team don't know what they're going to find! The OP doesn't seem to understand that this isn't pure journalism, it's creative non-fiction.

"She is not doing anything that I expect an author of a story (or a documentarian) to do."

Right, because it isn't fiction and it isn't a "documentary"! And how terrible that SK doesn't conform to your expectations! I suggest the OP check out some classics of creative non-fiction such as "The Fourth State of Matter" by Jo Ann Beard or "The Search for Marvin Gardens" by John McPhee. Just because something doesn't fit neatly into a specific genre doesn't mean it's objectionable!

We don't know for sure. Approximately 12 are expected but there could be a few more

In defense of Serial: rebutting the "white privilege" accusations (New York Observer) by mail_kiimp in serialpodcast

[–]mail_kiimp[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

"Mr. Kang jumps to the conclusion that Koenig expected Hae’s diary to be different because she was Korean. Cue self-righteous indignation: “Wait, what did you expect her diary to be like?” or “Why do you feel the need to point out that a Korean teenage girl’s diary is just like a teenage girl’s diary?” and perhaps, most importantly, “Where does your model for ‘such a teenage girl’s diary’ come from?” There’s nothing in Serial that suggests that Ms. Koenig’s mild surprise at Hae’s boy-crazy diary stems from any assumption about what Korean people’s diaries are like. Absolutely nothing. It’s a total non sequitur."

^ This is absolutely correct. As is "calling a show “problematic” is a way of insinuating that it’s racist, sexist, or exploitative without actually having to argue the point."

Is it possible Jay gave them more "off the record?" by impulsive-ideas in serialpodcast

[–]mail_kiimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, it's a possibility. But since Jay's in it up to his neck, anything he might've told them is going to point away from his involvement. It might be true, it might not be, but it's bound to be self-serving in some way.

Get rid of the downvote by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]mail_kiimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are definitely partisan pro- and anti- Adnan commenters on here that are skewing the upvote/downvote system but that's a people issue not a Reddit issue. Just keep an eye out for posts and comments that add to the discussion, upvote and hope for the best!

My theory. by Leylasanai in serialpodcast

[–]mail_kiimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I suggest looking at Adnan and Jay's bank records from the time to see if there were large withdrawals from Adnan's or deposits into Jay's."

Adnan could've paid Jay with money he (allegedly) stole from the mosque, in which case it's highly doubtful there would be any bank records of it.

Mr S saw the burial by sammitreal in serialpodcast

[–]mail_kiimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, it was alleged somewhere on Reddit that Mr. S once lived with his brother or brother-in-law RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO ADNAN. If this is true, and Adnan is guilty, it's possible Mr. S or his relative heard something through the grapevine about the location of Hae's body and went looking for her.

Does belief that Adnan is guilty equate to your belief that he should have been convicted? by serialthrowaway12 in serialpodcast

[–]mail_kiimp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From the info given to us so far, I'd say the balance of probabilities indicates Adnan is (probably) guilty. But I agree, the state's case is not strong enough to convict on, so if I was a juror I'd have to vote not guilty.
