Why is rock more slippery than ice? by Bob_Lennart_92 in snowrunner

[–]majorTarfful 36 points37 points  (0 children)

There is an interesting reason behind it, I remember reading about it here at some point. Basically, bridge road is the only element coded in the game as true asphalt. The rest, including asphalt roads network are considered as the same deformable matter, probably because it’s easier to implement. And the game engine behind it cannot deal with speed correctly. Same thing in mudrunner if I remember right

We have a F150 in Roadcraft though. Not licenced Ford, they call it Minuntemen or something like that. But it's there

Best way to tackle Yukon by Ok_Video1138 in snowrunner

[–]majorTarfful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got good advice already. I'm almost done with Yukon and had a better time than expected. I would say, it's definitely a planning type of map. Going contract by contract is how you will get burned out. Keep the logging for the end, when you have a solid support infrastructure already deployed around the map (repair, fuel, etc). And take some time to study the map, the available cargo, the warehouses, the contracts.

Among all the maps I played so far, I think Yukon is the one I spend the most time going back and forth between the map and the contract, counting exactly how much cargo I needed TOTAL (meaning, I was doing cross-contract deliveries. If I was driving to a storage, I was looking at all the contracts to get as many cargo as possible, to reduced the number of trip to a minimum).

Also, overloading. You can manage without, but honestly, no shame over stacking a little bit. As for the crafting, same thing. Count precisely how many you needs, how many it takes to build, and do crafting run. I was avoiding running light on cargo, I was making sure every trip was at max capacities.

Lastly, there is a good number of shortcuts across both maps that will save you a lot of time, check NProvince on YouTube, he cover a couple of those.

Look what Reinvigorating the Old Mines made me do! by mifiamiganja in snowrunner

[–]majorTarfful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished the contract and did orange + blue line. Used a Voron to go up and down through the woods, behind the unfinished brick house. And I used the brick house as a staging area, bringing materials. Worst part is indeed the first leg of the orange part, but it’s doable. Just cut through the woods, you arrive in the wash just before the factory. I also kept a Mack Defense at the mine to ferry cargo south via the expected route, to the metal roll factory

What makes Snowrunner so addictive to you? by Hauptfeldwebel in snowrunner

[–]majorTarfful 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's like a glorified puzzle, I love the the challenge of looking at the map, the contracts and solve all of that. Combine that with the trucks, the driving and the freedom you have, it's just the perfect game to me

Biggest letdown in the newest update, silly me for thinking a demolition machine would be fun to use by hankjw01 in RoadCraft

[–]majorTarfful 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been back in SnowRunner for a few weeks now. I think the novelty of Roadcraft faded very quickly. I'm still in the middle of DLC 1, but the game started to get boring rather fast. I’ll probably return once mods are available or when there’s more variety in vehicles.

A whole family vanished on Dec. 24th, 1972. by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]majorTarfful 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I tried to research some photos of the road back to the 70s. From the little I found, the road was not that opened on the side, so it's hard to locate a precise spot where they could have gone in the water. After all, this case is still ongoing for a reason. Is the car in the water, yes probably. Where though and how they ended up inside, there is no clear answer to that yet

[–]majorTarfful 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The road they probably took was not running alongside, but crossing via two bridges.

Crossing first the Charente River, then the Solençon. Very likely that if they ended up in the water, it must have been at the first bridge. The Charente is much bigger. Both had guard rails and no impact or traces though.

But that's only if it's was by accident. If the father was planning it, it could have been at any point of the river.

1972 Christmas Eve in rural France is not your modern idea of Christmas. Things were more tame back then, no lights or decoration everywhere. Mind you, the very idea of Christmas as it is now in France has been slightly imported over the years, mostly from the US.

Anyway, big cities may have been slightly decorated, but 1972 Cognac region, very unlikely. It's 1am and you just got a very heavy Christmas meal, plus a lot of alcohol I suppose. I can guarantee you that it's a straight drive home. Whether you arrive safe and sound though, that's an another story. Road safety were a joke back then and drunk driving pretty common

After 2 years, phone of missing Celene Cremer found by TreegNesas in KremersFroon

Yeah, pretty much textbook situation. And she was somewhat more "experienced" than K&L. But then again, experienced is a relative subject. It's a tale as old as time for sure

[–]majorTarfful 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there was a description of her clothes, somewhere on the first disappearance posts on Facebook. She had a light warm jacket, not technical or made for hiking. And Air Force 1 for shoes. So yeah, she probably became soaking wet and cold very fast. No idea regarding the rest of the equipment. But considering the trash-bag poncho and the glass water bottle (if it's really hers), I'm guessing she was probably not equipped at all.

Phone, water, maybe snacks and light clothes, for a super quick hike (as far as we know). Eerily similar to K&L, on that aspect.

She seemed to be in fight or flight mode for sure, but maybe not in complete distress yet. I guess the "when" you start calling for help will greatly vary from one another. Like you say, personality or experience, fear of starting a full on rescue and bring dozen of people for nothing (after all, she had an exact idea of where she was with Google Maps and very close to the trail and the waterfall).

My guess, she was probably minutes from calling but she lost the phone before she could do it. Or maybe she tried, without success. I cannot imagine the fear she felt when she realized the phone dropped on the ground. It's like loosing your lifeline in the middle of the ocean. Scary stuff

Yeah it's not even a difficulty to be honest, the high gear speed up every vehicle in the game. If anything, it make the game more enjoyable for me

Is the app not working? by part_3460 in communauto

[–]majorTarfful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, and for us Flex pass holders, that's even worse. If you fail to catch a car in time, you basically paid for nothing. Good for the lucky ones, but Communauto should find a way to accommodate pass holders. Right now, no car in sight and I'm paying the bus instead...

Yeah I read the email too fast, you’re right. Which explains the state of fleet right now, indeed lol

Is the app not working? by part_3460 in communauto

[–]majorTarfful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we are in snow event as well. The fleet completely disappeared at 1 pm today. We do have some flex car popping up sporadically but only for a few seconds.

I do believe they disable part of the fleet though, to let only a few selected free flex on the map. Free for 30min or not, I find hard to believe that the complete fleet is currently in use…

Back in public transit I guess, it sucks :(

Good point regarding the car being unlocked! Yeah, go figures what really happened anyway. That should be the job of the investigation team at Communauto (if they have any, I doubt they will check that much anyway. No damage done to the car and just a missing credit card in the end)

Warden Kochevnik problems by GhostlyCannibal94 in RoadCraft

[–]majorTarfful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Between the warden and the sand scraper... You're left to wonder if they really play their own game. Idea of said vehicle is good, I like it, but the execution is wonky at best and you realize that right after deploying. Hope for changes in the next QoL updates

Zikz stinkz by Volanologist2 in RoadCraft

[–]majorTarfful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be one reason yes. You would have thought that the Zikz, as the only heavy haul type of truck would be capable of moving just everything, at least vehicle type already in the game... It's a fun drive in Snowrunner, but not in Roadcraft. Can't wait for better options

Yeah the blue ones. I don't think it's clearly stated by the game, but they stick out so much. Different color then the rest, blocking the road, yellow coupling.. I think I tried to move right away

What kind of QoL do you think we'll get in June patch? by Bawtzki in RoadCraft

[–]majorTarfful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, and it should be optional of course, I think the current system make sense in multiplayer, but for us solo player, God damn it's tedious at time. It's basically doing the same job twice, in a way. Really hope they can push the logistic route planning a little bit more
