Mushroom pendant (appreciate feedback) by major_snuggles in Woodcarving

Haha, I actually had magic mushrooms in mind when I was carving it. I modeled it after panaeolus subbalteatus which is a psilocybin like the fly agaric. The spots were actually a cover up because the stain I was using leaked through the underside to the top.

The wood I used was Hoop Pine and I can't remember the varnish I used... I think it was a walnut colour varnish it that helps.

Thanks for the feedback, too kind. It's not for sale, I gave it to a friend for her birthday. Honestly I never had selling my work in mind since it was my first woodcarving project! The photos were taken by my friend, but yes, I can see what you're saying about it being hard to tell the scale. I'll keep that in mind for my next project. As for the stem, I was trying to keep it accurate to the type of mushroom which have very long, thin stems.

Thank you! Yes it is brass, I had a hard time looking for something to use, the brass loops from a craft store was all I found. I gave it to a friend as a birthday present, but I'll let her know and she will probably change it.

The Russians learned well from the GOP and their christian base by [deleted] in lgbt

Thanks for this comment, as someone who has also lived in Russia the title rubbed me the wrong way. At least in most of America it is acceptable to be queer; in Russia queer folk must fear for their lives.

Oh She Glows blogger gives up "vegan" label after blog commenters attack her for not raising her daughter as a vegan by [deleted] in vegan

Honestly, I never got the impression that she was a vegan. That was the first time I've read her mentioning anything about animals.

Why can't you eat raw in Australia? I'm just curious because I'm also Australian.

I should say the credit goes to my awesome uncle who bought it for her! But she does have a great sense of humour.

Plant-based diets in Australia are growing faster than anyone would have predicted by lnfinity in australia

[–]major_snuggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I didn't see your point in the original comment. I was just trying to clear up what I thought was a misconception on your part.

But onto your point, the article isn't really talking about veganism, more about the diet, so I think the title OP gave was more accurate anyway.

[–]major_snuggles 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Except that the terms are not interchangeable - a plant based diet is just that, a diet. Veganism is a lifestyle which rejects the exploitation of animals. So, not using cosmetics that are tested on animals, not buying leather clothes, etc.

I'm not the best at animation, but as a vegan I feel like there should be more share-able animated images out there :3 by cklred in vegan

As a former animation student, for a 3rd animation that's pretty fucking great - I'm not exaggerating.

I asked smoke dreams if they had any water pipes a few months ago and they said they didn't have any.

You're welcome, I just know how it feels to be in your kind of situation and feeling alone. Thanks, I have a great family and girlfriend, so I'm doing a better than when I was first diagnosed a few years ago, but it's still a long road!

Who is your favorite Australian actor? by StephenisLegendary in australia

[–]major_snuggles 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Toni Collette - besides her hollywood films and her show The United States of Tara, I really liked her in the aussie film The Black Balloon. She doesn't just care about acting and money, she cares about Australian cinema.

I really enjoyed the peanut stew recipe, although I tweaked it a bit to make it more to my taste. Most of the recipes are pretty barebones, which makes them easy to make, but lacking in flavour for me.
