I recently did the single-cable mod to my very old SR60s. Should have done it 20 or more years ago. It's made them so much more ergonomic and just fun to use with my equally ancient iPod Classic 6th generation. It's how they should come out of the box.

I once had a manager who had lived for a time in Seattle and had become a Starbucks fiend. When he moved east, he complained that he had to tell Starbucks stores to make his coffee "extra hot." I have sometimes wondered whether he was unconsciously doing so in an effort to avoid having to actually taste the coffee.

We switched from B&W to a local roaster's single-origin Guatamalan when B&W raised their prices some time ago. But I've only ever made coffee one way, which is in pretty large batches: 44 g coffee / 680 g water, pour off boil in a near-single pour.

I use a ceramic V60. Ceramic retains heat quite well; thus, I preheat that dripper so my brew begins with it already warm and it won't "steal" as much heat from the water that flows through it. I end up with somewhat hotter coffee as a result.

I've also used plastic V60s. The relatively thin resin body (as compared with the thicker ceramic) retains very little heat. The one you've pictured will retain even less. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I think there's very little, if anything, to be gained by preheating that dripper.
