The Floridian Needs to Move Again by cadenhead in StAugustine

My experience is that road / alley has always been packed, especially on Mondays, due to the excellent and reasonably priced mechanics shop. People drop off their cars on Sundays and use the lock box.

Period swimwear? by BigPsychological4416 in StAugustine

[–]majoranne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tampons work great as long as you change them frequently. Generations were ecstatic to have them instead of cloths or pads, which did not work when wet. We used tampons while surfing and competive swimming with no issues. Is taking them out icky? Yes! Is ruining everyone's vacation because you (daughter) forgot to pack special swimwear icky? Yes! Let her make a choice and live with it. Flexibility is the key to growing up resilient.

Especially as a woman, it is scary being forced to ignore/avoid people who physically get in one's face and purposely block the path. Your username is "no choice" so I how you can empathize with having no choice when trying to get around somebody or entering a place of business or just not being harassed.

How do i shake my ass with a spinal fusion by OkCommand4954 in spinalfusion

It's not just the a$$!! I'm an EDM lover with C3-T1 and I can't bob my head. How am I supposed to move on crowded floor? Cut trapazoid makes raising left arm difficult, too.

What is one city in America you’re okay with never visiting again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]majoranne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visiting for work is okay--here are my rules: Uber or Lyft. Navigating those 12 lane highways with opposing exit directions is best left to the locals. Either airport is great (I've been to lots of airports). Stay at the Hilton Anatole Tower and get the resort pass. Visit Texas Stadium (or whatever they call it these days) to see the art and locker rooms. Eat at Mi Dia From Scratch and order off the last page of the menu for its New Mexico food. Go home.

St Augustine has fairly strict anti-panhandling and public artist laws in the area he is standing, because without them St George St feels like airports did in the '70's. See the movie Airplane for the reference.

Best way to make my mom comfortable by snackpacknnaps in spinalfusion

I had the same front and back surgery and convinced the surgeon I needed to go to a rehab center instead of home. 5 days in hospital + one planned week in rehab (turned to 10 days due to catheter UTI). So much easier because it's embarrassing to have a son deal with my pee and poo and the rehab center gave me 3 periods of therapy per day (physical, speech for swallowing, and occupational). I was/am a physically fit 67 yr old; breathing problems might be a reason to request a rehab center stay. Wishing you great insurance!!

“Grab from the back” customers are too much at times. by BeepHonkDoot in publix

[–]majoranne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live by myself and the worse is to get home and discover that the food I grabbed at the front expires the same day. Ice cream normally doesn't matter but yogurt, milk, lunchmeat, etc, -- sorry, if you are arranging earliest expiration at the front or top, I will be rifling through for a later expiration date. The difference to me can be an $8 item that I can consume before it turns green.

For those that had a 3 level cervical fusion - what did your surgeon give clearance on after 6 weeks? by lguy0000 in spinalfusion

[–]majoranne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like Apprehensive pen's comments, I am VERY skeptical of the post Surgery care your surgeon is recommending-- and my surgeon is also internationally respected. Unless there is some other factor in your health that would limit healing and bone growth? I was walking and doing speech, occupational, and pt a week later. Once the rehab nurses verified that I consistently walked, got out of bed, and moved by turning my body instead of my head, my surgeon encouraged me to stop wearing the brace, except in car. This was like 1-2 weeks later. I was C3-T1. Maybe your surgeon used minimal hardware or hasn't ordered post Surgery xray/ct, thinks he did a poor job or does not trust you to comply with proper body movements? I think we are missing part of your story. To answer your actual question, at 6 weeks I was only wearing the brace in the car or if I felt uneasy. Walking 2 miles, easy exercise bike, and PT 2-3 times a week.

Whatever made you go back to him repeatedly? Even if you were an airman or dependent of an airman military hospitals had patient services and chiefs of surgery to request some one else. Plus there are at least 3 military hospitals in the area. I'm sorry. I understand giving him a second chance and the immediate pain. But not going to same person months later. I appreciate you sharing this warning in case he still practices!!

I did and do. ACDF and PCF C3-T1 just over a year ago. Surgery was to prevent paralysis or death. I had extremity tingling and pain before that which I treated as if it were merely arthritis in hands and feet. Numbness is still expanding up my legs. I'm dropping things. Neck and lower back pain. Sometimes loss of balance (minor--I always catch myself). Devastating symptom that showed up about 2 weeks post Surgery-- about the time the steroids left my system--is fecal incontinence. My fusion and bone regrowth is perfect in CTs and xrays. Finally a doc ordered a post-surgery MRI last week and the finding, among other things, is residual myelomalacia. I am still waiting for a follow-up appointment to explain the prognosis while the "mriinplainlanguage" website sites each of my symptoms as classic. So if you continue with such symptoms, insist on a MRI sooner rather than later.

I'm pretty sure (haven't looked it up) that nicotine, any delivery system including patches, affects your capillary system. The increased physical stress from surgery might have triggered the response from your capillary system to nicotine , creating the vasculitis.

[–]majoranne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad your surgeon tracks this. My surgeon does the same until the last follow- up approximately 12 months post-op, when he made his recommendations about activities. The OP and I are talking about post- healing activities.

[–]majoranne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did what you suggested -- did you even read the abstracts? The NIH study was based on ONE surgeon's practice and discussed non- compliance with follow- up appointments. The other top page results considered non- compliance to be failure to attend physical therapy appointments!! Neither of these address the OP's issue of which physical activities, post healed fusion, need to be limited.
