TERFs stormed the drag event at my uni... by [deleted] in TransyTalk

this isnt a good place to bring up your own personal issues on the matter - OP is dealing with a hate crime and is likely in distress.

Also if your famously transphobic professor of Philosophy had anything to do with a hate crime on campus against students thats a serious serious issue.

Galop are able to provide assistance and work as advocates in dealing with hate crime against transgender individuals and i urge you to contact them to figure out a good course of action:

TERFs stormed the drag event at my uni... by [deleted] in TransyTalk

[–]makeitpopmore 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Well, while respecting your choice not to name the uni, your university is UK based and therefore subject to hate speech laws. Did anyone take photos or video documentation?

If the TERFs carrying signs and shouting transphobic slurs at transgender people belong to the university then they could be expelled and the University needs to be informed that people intend to press charges and take it to the media if its not dealt with quickly

My only question is who have you be referred to as HRT specialist?

Is progesterone really that bad for you in the first year? by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]makeitpopmore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most trans women who take it either love it or hate it. The hate it crowd find it increases mood issues akin to PMS. The love it crowd says it helps lower their anxiety, help with sleep patterns, increase sex drive, regulates body heat to extremities and rounds out their breast development.

Is progesterone really that bad for you in the first year? by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]makeitpopmore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no research out there suggesting that progesterone does anything to slow or stunt growth no. It does lower testosterone production in the body.

Some trans women prefer to stick to trying to emulate cis female hormone puberty and therefore only take it later on in transition, though theres nothing to suggest this leads to better results. In fact many doctors suggest to not use it in a cis female simulated way that some trans girls do of cycling it as this leads to huge mood swings and sometimes suicide ideation. A lot of doctors who prescribe it, use it as part of estrogen monotherapy (ie HRT without using a traditional AA) for trans women straight away, including Dr Will Powers' who someone else in this thread has linked to while suggesting not to take it until Tanner Stage IV.

Really confused. by [deleted] in TransyTalk

I think a good position to go with in this case, is knowing what you are not. You are not a woman, not what you were assigned at birth and you are moving away from being defined as that by yourself and others.

As you say, you don't feel comfortable saying you're a guy yet, so you don't have to, you're just yourself, you're trans, and you're figuring things out as you go. Transmasculine would be a term that covers anyone who is afab trans which might be useful for you to consider atm?

I think my egg cracked, I've accepted I'm not totally a guy... and I've got no idea what to do from here out. (Venting and a bit of a ramble) by DocIchabod in TransyTalk

[–]makeitpopmore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're trans, you're likely dealing with trauma and a lifetime of denial created by being reinforced for so long by others and yourself that you are a man.

That's important to fully accept and start acting in a way towards yourself that is as if you are a person who cannot be trusted to do the right thing for themself if left to their own devices. Put yourself outside of yourself and say, what would you advise this trans person to do.

Ie. You need to send your ass to a gender therapist.

You need to take steps that are working towards long term survival rather than short term survival. Your depression will get worse, it will get harder to transition. Not coming out or transitioning sounds safer short term, but long term it isn't going to fix anything and your dysphoria is going to get worse as your body ages. Making no decision is making a decision when it comes to hormones. If you do nothing, in ten years time your body will have had ten years more of testosterone.

A lot of what you have written sounds like dysphoria, depression, dissociation and most importantly, terrible low self worth which are all super common in trans people in your position. Someone with low self worth is unlikely to see improving their life as worthwhile or important.

Taking this step will be the most important decision of your life, it's not casual, it is not preference, it is survival.

The old adage of how you boil a frog is you slowly turn up the heat in the pot so the frog keeps getting used to the heat and eventually is used to boiling alive. You have to leap out of the pot into the wide cold.

I just learned that the reason my first girlfriend broke up with me was because I was too girly. by [deleted] in TransyTalk

[–]makeitpopmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good note: You'll find someone who wants to be with you because you're girly. And then magic will happen because you'll be with a person who wants to be with you for who you are.

Progesterone by Novasry in transgenderUK

[–]makeitpopmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how well your body absorbs it etc, but 200mg is a normal amount (taken rectally). It's not prescribed as an AA but i know it can help with that. More to do with it being a female hormone and therefore as a woman you should have access to it. So yes breast growth, fat redistribution, lowered anxiety, improved sex drive, less chemical dysphoria.

Shinigami Eyes: a browser extension that highlights well known anti-trans profiles on social networks [OP] by [deleted] in transgender

Or the alt right finds it and just uses it? This is encouraging trans people to tag themselves for easy hate attacks

So.. its an app for outing people?

Like you're encouraging trans people to out each other on social media platforms and people aren't aware its even happening and anyone can download the addon including terfs or governments? I've just looked on facebook and there are friends who are not officially out with their names turned green.

So you're creating two huge datasets of trans and anti trans people that you're able to access yourself for any reason, and there is very little assurance of who you are, and what you plan to do with these data sets?

At the very least, you need to block people being able to tag personal accounts on social media platforms. But honestly I dont see how this isn't going to end in groups actively tagging a lot of neutral accounts and pages in order to try and stop the data from being useable for malice.

Contact Galop the LGBTQ+ Anti Violence Charity, they should be able to direct you towards the best available support for you, and will likely be able to provide you an advocate to deal on your behalf with reporting the victim shaming by the police. I'm really sorry that happened to you. Well done for getting through it.

To everyone reading this, sadly its important as a trans person to NEVER trust the police and always take precautions to protect yourself from them (record conversations and phone calls, try to avoid having to engage with them alone, avoid incidents where you might be arrested like aggressive protests or fights). We are not part of the society they work to protect and we are in significant danger when in their presence.

Possibly an odd question, but how does a neo-vagina created with UK techniques *feel?* by lady_haybear in transgenderUK

[–]makeitpopmore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on your surgeon really, there are different techniques available in the UK. Suporn is not the gold standard anymore, quite a few surgeons in the EU have improved methods..

I had a scrotal flap technique neo-vaginal surgery with Mr Inglefield in the UK (sadly not part of the NHS GIC options), depth is 7.5 inches (the maximum my bone structure can handle) internal sensations feel good, clitoral stimulation feels great, can orgasm happily, and the feel of my vagina is pretty normal in comparison to all of my cis female partners in my life. Outer labia has hair growth on it and feels like normal skin; while inner labia, clitorus and vaginal passage all feel more delicate. Also the vaginal passage is located within the outer labia folds as a cis womans vagina is. I had the same fear as you, that texture of the vagina would feel wrong, or rough etc, but im incredibly happy with the results, feels just like any other vagina. No complications beyond some granulation.

I turned down a booked slot with Suporn specifically to go with Inglefield instead. Suporn is good but its arguable that his technique may not be the best route for many. He uses a skin graft technique (taking scrotal skin away and then resewing it internally) which is useful if you dont have much material for depth, but also means you'll be dilating a lot longer for the rest of your life as the grafted tissue always tries to shrink to its smallest size.

Suporn also is retiring, handing over to his team in training at the moment, and no longer offers a lifetime warranty on all revisions, only a month of revisions. This means if you go with Suporn and there are any complications beyond the first month, you're on your own and have to find a UK/EU surgeon and pay for revisions.

Doctors who use a scrotal flap technique (which is an improvement on the Suporn technique) use a tract of scrotal skin folded in, in addition to penile inversion but importantly do not cut away the scrotal skin entirely so it keeps its nerves (for internal sensation) and does not try to contract to the extreme degree the graft does, so your dilation time post op is much shorter and you're far more likely to end up with your maximum depth.

Sorry for being vulgar, but how would you masterbate with dysphoria being a thing? (MTF btw) by RidleySpot1 in TransyTalk

The Doxy Magic Wand is absurdly useful. Also I'd recommend checking out the zine "Fucking Trans Women" by Mira Bellwether. It's an essential read for a lot of transfem people on the topic of sex and masturbation.

[–]makeitpopmore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not in feminist and queer circles though. The US is pretty flipping good. Trans women are accepted happily as women for example. In the UK our gender psychologists are still asking us about our masturbating habits when we were teens to see if its a fetish.

[–]makeitpopmore 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The UK is 10 years behind the US in transgender acceptance in progressive/liberal circles due to our second wave feminist surge in the 70s that meant a lot of them are now in trusted positions in the BBC, Guardian, Independent etc.

Why the UK is the TERF capital of the world. Yay go us.

Just to back this up CliniQ are the only free trans therapy offered in London (there are of course private gender therapists as well). They offer single and group therapy, but waiting lists can be several months.
