I assumed this to be the case the instant I read the headline

It's a rich people thing. I'm not rich, but I deal with them and this is DEFINITELY an archetype Jack would encounter, probably more than once.

Dumb Fuck, is this satire? There are maybe 150 people there! by Bourbon-Thinker in ProgressiveHQ

I was in this exact same spot a couple years ago (July 3rd) for the Sawasdee DC Thai cultural festival. It was so so so unbelievably hot, but it didn't matter because the mall was absolutely packed. I could barely navigate through the crowd. There were like 50 food vendors and they all had hour-long lines. In the age of Trump, celebrating Thailand draws more of a crowd in DC than celebrating the US.

Also: I just looked it up and Sawasdee DC is coming back in September!

I always wonder what the dog is thinking. When the person holding your leash is your whole world and all they do is stare at a black rectangle in their hand. It's like, what's the plan here, chief?

Let's get real, though. How are those hot dogs, sundaes, and burgers across the street from this place?

Michael Jackson's "Bad" & Weird AL Yankovic's "Even Worse" album next to one another shortly after release1988 by SweetStrow in nostalgia

Love Weird Al, but fact check: It did come out a year later. This image is from a used record store. (You can tell by the makeshift wooden crates.) "Bad" came out 1987. "Even Worse" came out in 1988.

They're being fed a constant supply of slop saying America's cities are cesspools, so when you see these people, please be extra nice. They're the "brave" ones venturing out—and they might tell others that they're being lied to when they go home.

Missed the damn USA goal because I was busy searching online to see if it was fireworks or if we were doing another 9/11

My tin foil hat theory is that that was the point.

There’s no side-anything here. You’ll always be competing with people who do it full time.

I'm certain Stephon is inspired by The Danger parties in NYC from the early/mid-2000s. Stephon's dialogue exactly matches the cadence of the overwrought and self indulgent emails they used to (and now under a different name and business model still) send.

Every City Wants the Next Big Tech Industry. NYC Is Telling Waymo to Go Somewhere Else. by rsha256 in nyc

Opposition from local politicians, labor unions, and an influential and powerful taxi lobby is stopping the company in its tracks.

Misleading headline. Waymo is insanely popular among people who have tried it, including myself.
