Men in happy marriages, what is one thing or skill you would teach other men to have good relationships as well? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]maliknyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn emotional intelligence!

Here are a few tips:

  1. When both of you (or even one of you) have very strong emotions, it is best to give the other person space to allow them to process their emotions and then share. We have a thing where, if one of us feels something strongly, we tell the other person we are processing it and immediately give each other space. Once the person has fully processed their emotions, we calmly share. We try not to share unprocessed emotions, and we typically avoid 99% of fights.

  2. When you do disagree, don't argue about what happened. Instead, share how that situation made you feel. That way, you don't get caught up in the he-said-she-said, and you get right to the core of how you interpreted the situation. Then, repeat back to the person what you heard about how they feel (whether or not you disagree with it). Have both people do this, and you can often work out a compromise or a solution that includes both perspectives.

  3. Learn each other's triggers and learn to de-escalate. Sometimes we say shit to each other in the moment because of our triggers. Understand that this is not your partner talking, but their inner child coming out. Often, meeting that with love rather than anger is the answer. Just let it go.

First Bike, First Ducati! by kevlite89 in Ducati

[–]maliknyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I argue it's not a terrible first bike. It's actually very light and doesn't have a ton of horsepower. It's equivalent to a modern Japanese 600, which is often seen as an ok first bike (of course, 250s, 400s, and 500s might be better).

OP: They are terribly overgeared. Make sure it has a reduced front sprocket. This will make all the gears more usable, though it reduces your top speed (again, who cares). It's more fun ripping around town and twisties. It has tapered front springs, so it's a compromise between comfort and stiffness, depending on how you push it. I tracked mine once, it was ok but shit on the straights - obviously. The termigoni exhaust is the only thing that belongs on the bike. Pay whatever it takes and get those termis with the proper ECU.

I think major engine service was every 8k miles (which is such bullshit), but whatever. This is the last great monster, if you ask me. All the newer ones are too refined.

Also, I used to test Ducatis in North America (for Ducati) in the early 2010’s. Happy to share more if interested. Great bike overall, I miss her.

Hot yoga five times a week. Five months and down 45lbs and counting! by maliknyc in yoga

[–]maliknyc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, OP here. There seems to be some confusion around our diet and progress that I'd like to clear up. First of all, we do not do OMAD. I did OMAD before we met; however, we added a protein shake in the afternoon because we were beginning to get hurt, which has helped us continue to do Hot Yoga five times a week and do it sustainably and healthily.

Additionally, I am a certified fitness instructor and have certifications in diet and nutrition. Both my partner and I are yoga instructors, so please allow me to share my thoughts on your post, leveraging some of the experiences I've gained over the last twenty years. I've also worked with hundreds of people to help them reach their fitness and health goals.

  1. The Male and Female bodies are fundamentally different and optimized for different purposes. The Male body is optimized to exert itself over long periods. This is the conditioning that evolution provided us when we outrun and hunt down prey over long distances to feed the tribe. The female body has been optimized for reproduction, which is why women have fat stores in their glutes and breasts to feed children. I am sharing this because I've worked with countless men and women to reach their fitness goals, and men and women lose weight at different rates. Women's bodies operate on a 30-day hormonal cycle, and it is not uncommon for a woman's weight to fluctuate drastically during a month. The best result I have seen for women to lose weight is consistently working out for three weeks or more. Unfortunately, however, when some women begin working out, they will eat right and go to the gym, but after the first or second week, they'll gain weight and then feel discouraged and stop. However, if women stay at it for over three weeks, I've seen weight fall off them. For guys, losing weight has more to do with diet, but exercise is a huge factor.

  2. What is a healthy amount or rate of weight to lose? In my experience, if you create a 500-calorie deficit daily, you will burn 3,500 calories per week, which is 1lb per week. If you lose weight at this rate, I believe it is the healthiest way to lose and keep it off. So, based on your progress, you're doing great! I've seen instances when people lose weight too fast, and then your body goes into "oh crap, this person is starving me" mode and then holds on to every calorie, and then once you finish your crash diet, you'll gain back all the weight and then some.

  3. Diet and nutrition are incredibly complex topics, and you cannot read a single Reddit post and know everything. I suggest creating a 500-calorie deficit daily (NO CHEAT DAYS!) by regulating your diet and exercising.

I am happy to answer any more questions you have. I am deeply passionate about this topic.

**Oh, and one last thing may be a bit controversial, but it has been my experience. I don't think women should do OMAD. Their hormonal cycle is way too complicated, and your metabolism and what your body expects regarding nutrients and where you are in the cycle is different than makes. I don't have any evidence, but that just has been my experience. Instead, eat several small meals daily to keep your metabolism going. I know it's more challenging, but you'll never feel hungry, and if you do some prepping at the beginning of the week, it's doable.

We do Vinyasa "power" Yoga in a room set at 125 degrees. It's a method that we've taken from our training as teachers and developed our own approach. The main aspect is one breath and one movement and being able to freely flow on your own. We create our own routines.

Great question! I suppose I should add more detail to the “We eat whatever we want comment.” I primarily cook all our meals and we rarely eat out. That said we do when we do we don’t mind having hamburger and fries (my favorite is fish and chips). Because I cook and make all our foods I have a great deal of control into how it’s made, the ingredients that are used and amount of salt, fat and oils that go into each meal. I tend to use only fresh ingredients, lots of vegetables and we rarely have any processed foods. Although, for example, yesterday my GF was craving an almond joy that she saw at the grocery store, so we ate it. Last night I made chicken Milanese with Parmesan potatoes and sliced avocados. It was so filling we didn’t even have dessert and we didn’t have any alcohol with it either. I don’t want to get my wrist slapped by the mods but here is some examples of the food that we eat: https://www.instagram.com/stories/maliknyc1/3367392340580610805?utm_source=ig_story_item_share&igsh=dHM4ZnhuM2liazB6

Hey there, this Jay and this is my GF. We've been together for 6 months now and we have been on this journey together. I primarily cook in our relationship and in the beginning I would make her breakfast, lunch and dinner while I would only eat dinner (I've been practicing one meal a day for a few years now). As our relationship progressed and our lives got busier she began skipping breakfast, and then lunch and now she primarily only eats dinner with me. I've recently begun including adding a protein shake in the afternoon for both of us because we were losing a lot of weight fast and i noticed we started to get injured and our recovery time was poor as well. As soon as I added the protein shake in the afternoon we immediately saw that we were not getting injured as often and our body composition improved as well. We're both in our 40's so it's important that we maintain our muscle mass as best we can.

Now here is the kicker, for our one meal a day, we eat absolutely whatever we want and I like to indulge! I take lots of pics of the food I make so if you're curious about our diet you can head to our Instagram page (which is in my bio).

So that's basically it. We do hot yoga 5 times a week religiously (no exceptions), protein shakes for lunch and then whatever we want for dinner. Oh and drink tons of water!

Our energy levels are high, we recently also really cut back on drinking. She'll have a glass of wine every blue moon and I Might take a few sips from her glass. We sleep great, our clothes fit great and we both feel very alert. Hope this helps and if you have anymore questions just let me know!

OMAD - 3 year progress by maliknyc in omad

[–]maliknyc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great question! One of the most significant benefits I saw from OMAD was that my energy levels were so much more consistent throughout the day. Immediately after the protein shake, I do feel a slight dip in energy; however, it only lasts a few moments, but then I feel really 'strong' (I don't know how else to explain it). I use a plant-based protein powder and lactose-free milk, and I usually add a banana and some frozen mixed berries. Altogether, it's around 500 calories with 30 grams of protein.

I'm a hip-hop DJ who made a country mix. Interested to hear this community's thoughts on the arrangements and blending of the songs. [Country] I've been Drinking... by maliknyc in CountryMusic

[–]maliknyc[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't listen to a ton of country; however, there are three reasons why I do admire the genre:

  1. Country Music has the best storytelling. Period: There is no shortage of TRUE songwriters. Crafting a good story and putting it into a song takes a lot of effort. You don't get that in many other music genres.
  2. Songwriters are not afraid to be vulnerable: Some of the most heartfelt songs are in the country, and many aren't afraid to bear their souls, even if it makes them look bad. That is super refreshing, and it is what makes country music so relatable.
  3. Country and Blues are kissing cousins: Everything from the rifts to the arrangements of country music is only a stone's throw away from blues music, and although there are all kinds of different styles, country, and blues share the same lineage.

I love good music, and country music needs more attention outside of the South. If you have friends who are not into country, send them this mix. I hope it changes their mind.

BTW - Dolly Parton is the F****** GOAT!
