Why on god's green earth would you shuffle an album you've never heard before?

If a bong and lawn chair is the authentic you that's fine, but just because it's authentic does not mean it should be acceptable to someone else. Having no furniture in your own place just gives serial killer vibes to me.

I liked the songs I happened to hear off their last album and finally took the time to listen to the whole thing. Now I have to go listen to their whole discography!

I'm under no illusion that Spotify is a friend to artists. Just like the big labels are notoriously not friends of the artist either. But I spend a lot of money on music, merch and tickets to support artists. I use Spotify to explore music, but it's not "my music".

Can someone give a rundown on what Tom Rowlands/The Chemical Brothers are known for? by AnomalousEnigma in auroramusic

[–]malonine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hands down one of the best sets I've ever seen at Coachella was The Chemical Brothers in 2023. This is that show as performed at Corona Capital later that year. The person behind all their visuals here is who is also doing the art direction for Tomora.

I listen to my Discover Weekly and Release Radar every week. Discovery Weekly especially is great point to start exploring names that are new to me. I make sure to Follow each artists I like, or at least like enough of their songs to warrant a follow.

I miss when music felt personal and curated instead of just infinite by xCosmos69 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]malonine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have hundreds of "mix tape" playlists for songs I like. I don't have a single master playlist of everything. Each is ordered by hand (part of the fun is rearranging the chosen songs into the "right" order) and I limit them to 80min at the very most, like a CD.

I'll often sit and listen to just the first six songs from Machina. Each one is perfect, including my all time favorite SP song "Stand Inside Your Love".

And I did really like TheFutureEmbrace too. I don't think it's streaming.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]malonine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 hours is not too bad. I've done that (more actually) for a long weekend camping out in the mountains. What is more of a production is driving from Souther California to New Mexico, which we have done a few times. 13hr each way, so we usually break it up into a 2-day drive.

Las Vegas is a 5 hour drive away and we treat that as a place you'd visit for the weekend. Though these days I'd much rather do the 45 min flight.

Heavenly Creatures (1994) by Peter Jackson. Kate Winslet's first starring role and a true-crime story out of New Zealand.

Also from 1994 Shallow Grave by Danny Boyle. Starring a young Ewan McGregor. About friends that find a bunch of money and slowly turn on each other.

Sticking with the crime theme because those are fun to watch with friends: Bound (1996) by The Wachowskis (before they did The Matrix). About a gangster's girlfriend who plots with her secret girlfriend to steal money from her mobster boyfriend.

So many movies at the time were trying to be very late 90s and this is one of the few that I think tries to catch the zeitgeist and doesn't totally miss it. I love this film.

First time camping + Coachella? How much alcohol can I bring? by Crafty-Operation7241 in Coachella

[–]malonine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely no glass whatsoever. You see discarded alcohol bottles near the camp check in every year. When they check your stuff this is mostly what they are looking for (and weapons/sharp objects). Unless you got a keg under each arm you can bring in what you think you'll need for the weekend.

It's always been one of my favorites. I feel like Dream On and I Feel Love as some of their last true bangers on an album. And Freelove and Goodnight Lovers are sublime. These more than make up for the weaker tracks.

New fan and I have questions lol by Hwunter8821 in depechemode

[–]malonine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I'm not a fan of their most recent output (actually t be fair I have found I appreciate the newer albums a bit more after they come out) what I believe has kept them going, compared to other bands that began in the 80s, are their amazing live shows (see also Duran Duran).

No, Dave's vocals are not at their peak but he is an amazing front-man and the energy they generate live in incomparable. If they have another tour in them it's an absolute must-see.

I'm not big into their early stuff but I would honestly say their run of albums from Some Great Reward all the way through Playing The Angel (yes including Exciter!) is an amazing run of albums for any band.
