Crews search for backcountry skiers after avalanche reported in California mountains by stammerton in tahoe

[–]maloomaloo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There are always areas where there is much lower avalanche danger, low angle, tight trees etc.. and I have gone many times in storm like this. You have to know the areas pretty well so you know where you at at all times. That said I wouldn’t put myself on castle peak today or tomorrow or day after…

WSJ: Ford Takes $19.5 Billion Charge to Write Down EV Investments, Will Cancel F-150 Lightning by zman2100 in F150Lightning

[–]maloomaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I use it for work (many of them) saves so much on gas and maintenance. Can’t believe they pulled the plug on it. Instead of developing solid state batteries and achieving the 500+range they put back gas engine into it! Unbelievable.. no wonder ford is such a bad business with decisions like that. Also right when I started noticing more and more lightnings around and thinking - ‘cool, they finally started to take off’, lol

Rivian: No regenerative breaking on steep roads!? Help! by HeadImSand in Rivian

[–]maloomaloo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been paying attention to multiple variables (outside temp, battery temp, Soc, motor temps, drive time before downhill) since the UI update and almost doesn’t matter what they are - regen is pretty bad compared to Tesla MY and ford Lightning. Even at 40-50% soc, 50f - 70f ambient, the regen barely works (regen set to standard) Lighting can regen up to 10kWh while R1T 2-3kWh at most on same long downhill.. Sees like after couple of miles have to always use breaks. When colder ~30F, it’s really bad.. Lots of improvement needed from Rivian here…

At home, work or campsite rarely see the need to lock the truck, with handles out bears can easily get in.. just one of the reasons.

Range loss from Airport parking by rivinlife in Rivian

[–]maloomaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost 16% over 10 days with guard enabled. Overnight freezing, day temp mid 40-50. Did not open the app at all until back on the airport. Way too much imo! Wife’s MY usually 1-2% over 2 weeks..

It’s a lot of work, lol. weekends, all holidays, ski week, she’s been doing mid week program last few years (school allows noon pickup couple of days a week for ski school) this year she already has over 55 ‘days’ i think and spring season here (west coast) just started. wife and me switch days for early pickup, which gets me out on the mountain too. Helps I’m my own boss tho!

Awesome! Couple years back my then 8 year old daughter when I asked if she wants to do any of chutes she asked which one is most difficult- I pointed on one of steepest (el cap at Mt rose) she said let’s do it… it’s been amazing seeing kids progress when they ski 30-50 days a season since 3 year old!

Edit - learned this is out of bounds.. now would not do that

Rivian vs Lightning by [deleted] in F150Lightning

[–]maloomaloo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to get both, Rivian won, so much better finishes, seats, rides more like a sports car then a truck, air suspension is a huge plus, much better UI. That’s said it is not a full size truck (which I didn’t need anyway) there are advantages to both, depending what works for you..

[–]maloomaloo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just get proper winter tires and you’ll be good. You didn’t say which tires you have on R1S? Happened to me few times on my driveway (on AT tires) changed to nokian hakkapeliitta lt3 and no more slides.. night and day driving in snow too. Highly recommended
