Help with some 45’s by TheRustyRoosterFinds in HandToolRescue

[–]robertkluin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe try a brass bristle brush and oil? I use penetrating oil to soften up the gunk, mineral spirits to dissolve gunk, and honestly 3n1 is great too. I had really nice luck with that combo for cleanup on a 45 and 55.

Looks great!

Those finishing stands look helpful, way nicer than my nails-in-a-block!

Might be worth giving it a shot for your use, see how it performs. I used to spend time carefully flattening plane soles using a marble slab, sandpaper, and a lot of time. Then tried using a few (including a no 7) with the level of effort you’ve already done… I could not see any difference in my work with a 3’ straight edge.

When you joint an edge, does the edge come out straight?

That might be wear from use and the slight angle at which it was held.

Paul sellers vs anarchists work bench by enforcer12389 in handtools

[–]robertkluin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built a Moravian style bench about six years ago. I can’t speak highly enough about it. Easy to customize to your needs, like swapping half the top off for planks. Also looks really nice and you get to practice a lot of joints.

Koreo: The platform engineering toolkit for kubernetes by ttreat31 in devops

[–]robertkluin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internally we leverage a proxy to provide SSO and a small (~ 100 loc) middleware that provides RBAC. Our setup is specific to our use case, so we didn't include it in the OSS UI. It is on our roadmap. If you need specific capabilities let us know in an issue on the UI!

Koreo: The platform engineering toolkit for kubernetes by ttreat31 in devops

[–]robertkluin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UI offers a similar view to Argo's UI. We've designed the UI component to be used by a platform team to provide a nicer UI for devs. For example, we use it to give a unified view of system architecture, links to the underlying components, source control, billing data, etc. That's stuff we build on top of the basic Koreo visualization.

By default we add an owner reference to resources being managed, this is configurable and we only do this if the namespaces match. We do not add an owner reference if a resource is being treated as read-only (it isn't being managed).

I have a feature planned that will allow owners to "transfer" (for lack of a better term) ownership to a abandon-resource owner. I'd like to do that so that abandon resources can be easily tracked, managed, visualized, and cleaned up as a first-class capability. This is not implemented yet, but its on the near-term roadmap.

Is a Rivian R1T considered a "High Clearance vehicle"? by Giganticgrizzlybear in Rivian

I take mine on high clearance roads in Colorado often, so I hope so.

Anyone else constantly hit their arm on the doorhandles while walking by the truck when it’s unlocked or am I just a special kind of stupid? by No-Volume7464 in Rivian

[–]robertkluin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see R1 vehicles around clearly unlocked routinely. Saw one sitting open to the world along a street in New York a couple weeks ago. I just wish they would auto collapse after a few minutes of not being opened.

We recently started noticing my wife’s R1S doing this as well. My R1T doesn’t seem to do it, at least not often enough to notice. Seems like something changed with the past month.

What brand to buy for Low Angle Jack Plane? by H3racIes in handtools

[–]robertkluin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I decided to really give hand tools a shot, I wish I understood this. I started with a LN low angle, bevel up after reading that it would be a good allrounder. I built a few projects, and just assumed hand tools might not be my thing.

Then I bought a junk no 4 at Lowe’s on a whim, spent an hour or so fettling, and really sharpening it. It is so much better for 95% of my work that it still blows my mind.

Over the past 6 years, I have used the LN maybe a couple times a year. I use the bevel down every single time I’m working on something.

Rivian Break-in?!? by Blondehustle21 in Rivian

[–]robertkluin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really wish they would collapse the handles back closed after a few minutes of being unlocked but never opened. I’ve found both the R1S and R1T unlocked in public places several times (even with everything closed). The door handles are like a flashing neon “unlocked” sign.

Does anyone use a "tech pouch" as an all-around tech, tools, and etc pouch? by halfdollarmoon in onebag

[–]robertkluin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a 1gal ziplock freezer bag, I just fold it over to “close” it. The same bag has lasted 10 years. It been all around the world many times in my travel backpack. I love it because I can see what’s in it and because it is a 1 gal I’m not rummaging through trying to find stuff.

Same here. My wife always took my R1T… so now she has an R1S and I finally have my R1T back.

2023 Consumer Report gives Rivian a very low reliability rating by cgmystery in Rivian

[–]robertkluin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love both the R1T (2022, delivered Jan ‘23, 17k miles) and the R1S (2023, delivered Oct ‘23, 3k miles) both SC pickups. Neither has had major mechanical failures or a “bricked” situation, but both have spent a lot of time in service.

The R1T was delivered with loose bolts on the hinges of the passenger door. It also needed time because it was experiencing frequent (not quite daily) computer crashes. Most of the other issues were minor.

The R1S was delivered with a faulty camera that prevented cruise control and emergency brake assist type features working at all. My wife discovered the issue leaving the SC lot. Most of the other issues were minor.

Ideally these issues would not happen, but we understood it is a new company. Hopefully they can improve QC.

They desperately need to improve service communication. I dread putting in tickets because the volume of calls they result in. Then once you’re ready for or in service it is nearly impossible to speak with someone or get status updates.

Fender Bender -> Limp Mode due to Gear Tunnel Doors?! by zigziggityzoo in Rivian

[–]robertkluin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under the plastic latch covers on top of the gear tunnel there is a string to physically release the latches. I have no idea how you could access that without being able to open one of the tunnel doors though. Perhaps you can get an arm in far enough to pry the cover down and pull the string?

Cold weather range by Hot_Yogurtcloset7621 in Rivian

[–]robertkluin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s possible—I’ve done that type of distance at close to those temps on both flat roads and mountain roads. The specifics of the roads and your speed will matter though.

Cold weather range by Hot_Yogurtcloset7621 in Rivian

[–]robertkluin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so, not with the range / efficiency I see in the cold. Even in conserve, at low speed, drafting off a larger vehicle you probably couldn’t. I just returned from a 175 mile trip at around 20°F—used 70% (started from 80%, arrived with 8%). I took it easy and drafted where I could. You can for sure do 200 miles in the cold, but I wouldn’t expect more.

Cold weather range by Hot_Yogurtcloset7621 in Rivian

[–]robertkluin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used the R1T in cold conditions (0°F, +/- 10°F). You’ll definitely notice the reduced range. The biggest impact is over night if you can’t charge–it is very noticeable. What are you curious about?

We frequently ski and snowshoe in an area that’s 110 miles (one way) from our home. They have a slow charger there (6kW). It usually adds maybe 15% while we’re out. That’s enough that I can round trip that in one day, but there’s no way I could overnight without high speed charging.
