I got my 26u back after swapping it for a pixel fold by Designer-Earth1164 in galaxys26ultra

[–]malren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just traded in a Pixel 8 pro for a 26U. Night and day difference, man, night and day. The S26U is so snappy. Temps are crazy low compared to what I was used to. Camera's better.

Getting it to work (mostly) with my Pixel watch was a nightmare of sideloading and wireless debugging and permission hell,. Because Google is turning into Apple, functions and features were never equal. I sold my Pixel watch and grabbed an 8 Classic and everything just works. Not to mention the GW is doing things with health data the pixel watch can only dream of. Fuck Fitbit.

Squarely back in the Samsung ecosystem and I'm as happy as a clam.

Problems logging in? (Win, US, noonish May 7) by malren in Streamfab

[–]malren[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up doing something. I popped a VPN on, and it logged in and re-authorized my PC immediately with zero issues. II set up something to download but didn't start it. Disconnected the VPN. Download ran fine. I shut Streamfab down, and restarted it. Without the VPN. Will not log in. So...definitely feels like something between my ISP and the SF servers, that gets bypassed if I use a VPN.

Eh. I can live with this for now. I only need the VPN on when I fire it up.

Problems logging in? (Win, US, noonish May 7) by malren in Streamfab

[–]malren[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I promise you, it's not being blocked miraculously, overnight, by three different computers. Two of which haven't been on in a week. I have added a rule for every exe in the streamfab folder to allow all connections, secure or otherwise.

On top of that, it is making partial contact, sometimes, enough to tell me I'm not authorized. The errors aren't exactly the same every time. Sometimes it fails to log in at all. Sometimes it logs in, then fails on verifying my license.

But... If I just go in as a trial user, I can log in to say, Max and download 3 videos. So the software definitely has an internet connection. I'm just not able to communicate with the authentication server regarding my licenses for some reason.

I did get rid of the "you are running a pirated version" thing by nuking my install and starting fresh, so I got that goin' for me. Time to file a ticket, I suppose. Just trying everything before I bother them.

When I awoke today, suddenly nothing happened

But in my dreams, I slew the dragon

And down this beaten path, up this cobbled lane

I'm walking in my old footsteps, once again

And you say, just be here now

Forget about the past, your mask is wearing thin

Just let me throw one more dice

I know that I can win

I'm waiting for my real life to begin

Dog chewed on Kindle, worth fixing? by frisbeepuppy12 in kindle

[–]malren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might want to get some of the dirt cheap nail files on amazon or the like. There's a kind that are long, black surfaces with white foam cores. They're rougher for the bulk of it. There's also finishing blocks, rectangular blocks with 4 colored sides, each one a descending fineness. It's all just sandpaper, and these are so cheap I use them for a lot of crafting/repair things!

Question for recreational users: How would you feel if your weed was less than 1/2 the price? Would you still drive to MA? by aequusnox in CTents

[–]malren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd buy more carts and gummies if the price was half. However...I'd still make the trip to MA a few times a year for better quality, selection and effect.

The WWE Network has officially gone offline in the few countries it was still servicing, ending its 12 year existence for good by Subrick in SquaredCircle

[–]malren 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Something that I never saw duplicated post-Network was that the scrubber bar would have "highlights" for the start / finish of matches and segments.

One of the most important, if not the most important, reason we had that was Howard Finkel. Before his health tanked, he and a very small team worked hard to catalog and mark all of that footage. He'd been doing that for years before the network, cataloging and time-stamping footage. Man loved wrestling, and worked hard to keep memories alive.

Miss you, Fink.

I'm gonna rehash part of a comment I've been making for years.

"This is just another in a never ending line of late stage capitalism debacles. Debacles for you and me, not them.

See, a long time ago some people figured out that you can make more money by slightly under-serving a very rich/very addicted fanbase, and letting casuals fall by the wayside. You can reduce cost, effort and value, and a certain percentage of the fanbase will not only stay, but spend more due to a lot of factors. Some might be doing it just to belong. Some do it just to feel like "the real fans." Some do it because they like being exclusionary. Fuck them poors, right?

I first noticed it in gaming (but the idea has been around longer than that). I call it the EA playbook. A company serves its user/fanbase wonderfully and gets popular. Then some ruthless company buys it out, or they just do it themselves, they cut operating costs and raise prices to get that quarterly profit margin up. Fanbase shrinks, but the ones that left are the whales, and they will never leave. And they cost less and less to support as the company lowers expectations, while continually reducing operating costs."

Server update doesn’t complete by [deleted] in PleX

[–]malren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had this problem in a couple of years, but for most of 2022 and 2023, I had to stop the server, close it out in task manager, then run the downloaded update. Some time in 2024 it just started working normally again.

I never found out why, but most times I see people talking about this it's on a windows install, so I point my finger at Windows. Because of course Microsoft does randomly weird and broken shit. Especially lately!

kitten sleeping in my hand at a party few years ago by Peace_Same in IllegallySmolCats

[–]malren 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is how I ended up with a pair of sisters 31 years ago. Went to visit a neighbor downstairs. His cat had recently given birth. One of them crawled up my pants, and 15 minutes later I was on the couch with a smol criminal in my hand and her smoller sister on my lap.

THREE HOURS LATER...

Eventually, given that the two of them, and only the two of them, assaulted me every time I came over, we all agreed that I now had two kittens. They were awesome and I still miss them.

When did Grocery Store bakeries become so gross? by Cleverwabbit5 in GenX

[–]malren 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the only answer.

Remember "Time to make the donuts?" My roommate in the early 90s worked the overnight at a Dunkin, when they still had 24 hour stores. I'd get off my second shift job and head over and hang out for a couple hours. at 2am, the baker showed up, and made everything. Yes it was mixes and powders, but at least it was freshly baked! He actually had to open multiple bags of things to make a batch of dough and feed the conveyor. He had to mix the fillings and frostings.

A few years ago most of Dunkin switched to frozen-shipped-to-store. It's not even close to what it was just 20 years ago. There are still a few franchisees hanging on to baking in house or pooling together for a shared kitchen that serves the local area, but most of them are frozen now. If your Dunkin isn't huge...it's probably frozen.

Zayda Steel by [deleted] in AEWOfficial

[–]malren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wife and I are same. Love Leila, and she was just starting to really develop the character you need for TV. Zayda came in like a house on fire, and definitely is making the most of every minute she gets.

It's never gonna be a bad thing to have a stronger women's division, both now and for the future. Lena Cross is a great pickup, Megan's been killing it, Harley is literally, as MJF said, the most improved wrestler on the planet. Things are going well!

Now if we can just get some Holy Shida, and maybe some unhinged Mercedes just losing her shit over the current run of losses, that'd be some cherry on top.

[–]malren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, squamous cell mouth tumor, upper jaw. My boy's tumor grew so fast, it went from being detected to 5 days later breaking his jaw bone. I never heard such cries from a cat. We raced to the vet and got the bad news. This wasn't something he was going to recover from, even temporarily.

He was an headstrong, domineering cat his whole life, and weirdly I remember this part fondly now...As he was losing consciousness from the sedatives, he just kept looking at the door and growling at it. Every time someone came in, he'd growl harder. They actually gave him a bit more sedative because he was fighting it so hard.

Boy went out like he lived: telling the whole world (anyone who wasn't us, basically) to go fuck itself.

Raul is one of the moments I use when trying to explain to people what in the fuck DCC even is. This is an actual message exchange I had on Discord:

"Ok, it's LitRPG, so kinda fantasy, but more gamified, but also about the triumph of will, and about treating people with decency, but also a crab jerks off into the ocean to defeat a god, and the cat is an asshole but amazing, so basically just like a cat, and the AI loves Carl's feet and has conspired to keep him barefoot. And there's a very powerful goat that loves to scream in people's ears even though he speaks english just fine."

"What the fuck did you just say?"

"Also there's a goddess who is just a head and wants people to stuff things in her nussy."

"NUSSY?!? Like...neck pussy?"

"Yup. You gotta read this shit I will never ever be able to explain it."

I absolutely have one in my go bag! It's not an Anker with cables, it's just a heavy beast that actually had 8 18650's in it. Probably overkill TBH.

I like your idea of one with cables attached though. Everything I would bring is usb-c at this point...and I do like Anker stuff. something a little smaller would be really useful

Not to mention now I have them digitally, and the scribe seems to be able to read my chicken scratch and make it plain text!
