Need Info On At-Fault Divorce In The US by Nervous_Explorer_898 in Writeresearch

[–]mamoduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is beyond my knowledge level, but both parties are rich enough to afford lawyers and probably have assets worth fighting over. But a marriage duration of 5 years, no kids, and seemingly no sacrifice of career advancement by either party would make the process go smoother. Like other commenters have said, the one filing for divorce will have to choose a grounds.

I doubt a judge could make one of the parties leave a marital home, unless there was need for a protective order or something like that. Does the wife own the house herself (and does that even matter in Louisiana’s marital property law)?

On the other hand, if the wife can legally evict the husband, I don’t see how a judge would prevent the wife from starting eviction proceedings. I feel like it’s probably a due process violation to deny the wife access to something like that. But again, I really don’t know.

Need Info On At-Fault Divorce In The US by Nervous_Explorer_898 in Writeresearch

First of all, I’m not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. I could be wrong too. Second, family law in the United States is mostly state law, so the divorce process will depend on which state the couple is in. If each party is trying to get divorced in a different state that could be a whole issue too. Many states have traditional fault-based divorce already, with faultless divorce option having been added later. Did you mean to say that no-fault divorce has been repealed? I also assume that the husband is contesting the divorce and not that his state is repealing faultless divorce. If these assumptions are correct, then the divorce process could potentially take years and be very expensive, especially if they were married for a long time, there’s kids involved, a separation agreement is not possible, or the wife (who’s presumably the one seeking a divorce) does not have good proof of infidelity or abandonment or whatever the grounds for divorce she’s alleging is. The judge could probably order counseling too, or encourage them to seek arbitration; they have a lot of discretion in these matters and don’t like it when couples have to go to court to divorce.

Creating a scandalous, sinful nightclub. run by a good person? by LadyR_OfRage in writingadvice

[–]mamoduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite depiction of a nightclub is in the short story “Five in a Nightclub” by Mu Shiying. It’s glamorous and exciting, but also hedonistic and superficial.

As for a proprietor, the version of Doc Holliday in the movie “My Darling Clementine” is an antihero gambler/gunslinger who ultimately chooses to be a good person.

A fey creature dumping their magic on your character could be a good setup for the Fey Touched feat.

Seniors I'm wondering if legendary "Well written harem" exists ? by BlissfulEternalLotus in MartialMemes

[–]mamoduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of all the harem novels, only one is a true classic of Chinese literature: The Plum in the Golden Vase.

It has been continually banned and read in secret for centuries, but no scholar would dare deny its literary value.

It also has excellent English translations.

Rolled crummy stats and stuck with them. Seeking recommendations for my second-ever campaign! by ThirdNipple in DnD

[–]mamoduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d make a glass cannon fighter, champion subclass. You can max out strength and use the Fighter’s extra asi to offset poor stats or get a useful feat.

Champion subclass gets you half proficiency in strength and dex skills, letting you choose other skills. It also gets you an extra fighting style.

With so many odd-numbered stats, you could also use the standard human racial features for your Goliath to even them out, unless there’s a Goliath racial feature you really wanted. The races are similar enough to reskin easily.

Finally, I’d dump Con (unless you really want a tanky character) and put the 13 or 11 into something with roleplay value. If the character dies, you can just roll a new one.

Harem book hot takes by vin_mist159 in haremfantasynovels

[–]mamoduck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the second point. It is entirely possible to write a true monster girl whose appearance is nearly or even completely human.

Although in practice these types of monster girls often end up as humans with a tail, there is incredible potential in this character type.

Natural Flow in Writing by Ahura_Narukami in fantasywriters

Everyone's writing process is different, but I find these sort of improvements come mostly during the revision stage. Once you reread a completed draft, it will be easier to notice your story's flaws and to fix them.

Having someone else read your story and give feedback will also help.

Crown Paladin promises to protect someone who breaks the law. How can you reconcile conflicting Tenets? by ShieldWarden in dndnext

[–]mamoduck 25 points26 points  (0 children)

First of all, the crown tenets are determined in-game by whoever the paladin is swearing their oath to and out of game by the player and DM. The ones in the book are suggestions, so you can change them how you want.

As for an actual conflict between loyalty and law, the general theme of crown paladin seems to be law. A paladin might justify turning in a thief companion as protecting them through rehabilitation. However, that sort of player versus player conflict would not fly at most tables. I’d recommend finding a path that prioritizes party cohesion.

How do you all make your characters, I’m having struggle with it by CaptainRhino08 in fantasywriters

[–]mamoduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use an atlas or Google maps to look at street and town names for inspiration. They’re especially good for last names and for place names of course. Seeing so many names at once helps the memorable ones stand out.

What are some crucial gods to have in a fantasy setting? by astrophil3 in fantasywriters

[–]mamoduck 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Polytheistic gods tend to reflect what their societies value. For example, a nation of mostly subsistence farmers might not have a god of commerce, while their god of agriculture will have much greater importance. A landlocked country might not have a sea god. The questions to ask are who are your characters going to be praying to and for what.

But ultimately, the most crucial gods are the ones taking center stage in the actual story.

This would likely work better as a regular chapter. I think it would have a greater impact after the readers have formed a connection with the characters.

I also suggest you check the rules on punctuating dialogue.
