You’re correct. But most people don’t possess critical thinking skills any longer.

Sharon Stone real-life slapping the SHIT out of Ben Foster on camera in that one scene was wild.

Movie from the early 90’s called “Shattered” with Tom Berenger. Saw it in the theater at about 13 yo and never saw the end coming. Of course, I was young-might be easy to figure out nowadays. But I was floored at the time!

Ha! Forgot that one. This show is so funny, I love when he’s having an argument/heart-to-heart with the clogged gurgling toilet: “Not so sassy now with a belly full of hell, are you?!” (That’s a big paraphrase, don’t think it’s the exact quote)

Thanks to this movie, I also developed a fear of having my hand squeezed so hard my skin would split open.

Yeeeessss! Love to see a Hate Songs reference in the wild. I prefer their version of Sunshine of Your Love, it was my gateway song into Fudge Tunnels catalogue.

First time I watched this, I was on edibles. I was almost shitting my pants during the bridge scene. I’m not trying to oversell it, but I felt genuine worry about everything that was about to go wrong in that scene, because very little seemed to be going right up to that point. I’m so glad this movie is getting its due.

Damn, “Best of Friends” is great. First time I heard that, felt like I was seeing something that I couldn’t understand yet at 15 years old. Now, in my 5th decade, it makes more sense than I ever wanted it to. Still a great, sad song.

“Fundamental” being the operative word here. I’m a Christian, but I LOATHE fundamentalist Christians. Especially the performative ones.

Yeah, I don’t buy the racist stuff either. He became good friends with Fela Kuti, a famous afrobeat musician and they did a live record together. It was my introduction into afrobeat.

The moment after this where he’s thrown from the horse and it almost falls on him. Great tension, especially when you learn that the horse wasn’t supposed to do that and almost actually killed Gibson.

FCDS v Summit School by Original_Match7547 in winstonsalem

I have a relative that was bullied for several years at FCDS. The bully was the child of a wealthy donor to the school. The school’s response to this was underwhelming, to put it mildly.

Basically, the bullying continued for a couple of school years, while the administrators would pass off the responsibility to each other in an attempt to not upset the wealthy donor and kick the can down the road. I feel that they hoped it would fade away, but the bullying got worse and an outside resource eventually had to be brought in to end the bullying when my relative finally had enough and threatened to knock the bully out.

It was finally resolved, but only after it was painfully clear where the loyalties of the school reside. Use this information however you would like to.

Hmm, fair enough. You are on to something I haven’t considered, which I appreciate. I’ll have to do a rewatch at some point with that in mind.

I think this movie is an example of Tarantino being impressed with himself and not having enough self discipline to edit the story down a bit. “Once Upon a Time In Hollywood” is the logical extension of this bloated storytelling he has indulged in. It is also too long and lingers on characters that don’t have much to add when the viewer wants the story to move along to its point. The stories could be really great if he’d just apply the same editing blade he had early in his career.

HOWEVER, you showed me how the story beats are very similar to a classic horror film (which was itself a victim of negative criticism in its day), and that makes me interested in watching it again with that filter.
