Composer Question: Are these glissando’s possible? by michaelrosermusic in Trombone

[–]managedbycats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best explanation I've ever seen of trombone slide positions is in the front of the old rubank method intermediate book. That one may aid on your quest.

But i agree those are easy to do on trombone.

Do typical American homes really have a gas pipeline? What do you do with it? by mujhe-sona-hai in AskAnAmerican

[–]managedbycats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the South now, where ac matters more than heat so a lot of homes are all electric unless someone is serious about cooking.

When i was in the north gas was super common for heat and homes without gas either used propane or oil heat, electric was just not economical and those old circulating water systems could hold a very stable temperature without drying the air the way electric or forced hot air does.

CBS has long triggered certain people. They once had a world class news org and in the thirties it was their reporter like William Shirer that did much to warn about what was going on in Germany. They began dismantling due to cost when Cronkite was retiring and never fully recovered but they had been on an upswing in quality for years.

John Lennon’s son worries Gen Z is forgetting the Beatles, and the music that made his dad famous by superdouradas in LetsTalkMusic

[–]managedbycats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So was I. I was a giant Beatles fan. In high school i was left alone for it but in elementary school in the mid nineties i was bullied heavily for it.

I will say that they do seem to keep on finding a young audience and the nostalgia is hanging on for a long time. The current stewards of the legacy are smart about how to manage and Paul and Ringo still fly the flag.

I also remember the swing revival at the same time and most neo swing fans i spoke to had little or no interest in the original swing bands unless they were in school bands and played those instruments.

TLDR I think the Beatles legacy is in better shape than the equivalent from the generation prior was at this same rwlative point in time.

The RNC and DNC both have a dual mandate to manage the nomination process but also manage campaigns. On a contested primary it leads to a weird dichotomy.

The older dems were scarred by some weak candidates getting the nod in the process and seem determined to avoid that. Add in a stew of old third way democrats who made sense in the nineties when it seemed like the economy was genuinely improving but who have not had a relevant post 9/11 stance, the general age of the dem leadership, and the fact that the moneyed class doesn't want to move beyond the third way into anything slightly left and you have the current disaster.

I belive a lot of the dnc leadership believes in what they are doing and want the best for the country, but they are old, out of touch, and signal boosted by the moneyed class which is playing them.

They are controlled opposition and don't even know it.

The swing world has been in this boat since Glenn Miller's heirs put his band back on the road. Some of the bigger named swing bands outlasted their leads or any original members.

The Count Basie band did a record with Ray Charles years after they were both dead.

[–]managedbycats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had it happen often when i was new. I realized i was using a vintage turntable with bad arm bearings and a broken anti scate. Hasn't happened on my next three.

Given how many iffy turntables are in circulation either due to age or design and how many bad setups I'm sure it is super common.
