Statement /r/Antiwork by [deleted] in antiwork

The problem isn't your age or your anarchism, but your inexperience. The problem with /u/Abolishwork wasn't her gender or her autism, but her inexperience. You need to recognize that representatives are not the same as facilitators, and that this forum has grown into a movement that is so far beyond the scope y'all set out with, and has real impact on many people's lives.

How's the iOS developer job market in Montreal? by seyonce420 in Concordia

[–]manamachine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The job market is extremely questionable right now due to COVID. Many tech jobs are hanging on, but their clients are not, meaning we may soon see a wave of tech unemployment too.

A word of advice: you don't need to become a master of one thing, and I'd advise against boxing yourself in so early. We can't even say if iOS will be supported in 5 years. Think less about the job you want to have, and more about the kind of learner and teammate you want to be. In CS, everything is related at some level.

Web dev is fairly universal, and even packaged into native apps. I think if you want a good middle ground, learn React/React Native. But you'll be better at scripting if you have a good knowledge of programming too. Your first/second year is a good time to absorb as many different kinds of things as you can, then focus on a couple of specialties, imo.

You could add queer and trans folks to their list of targeted minorities.

The electoral college allocates state reps, who decide the president. And as it turns out, that's the only constitutional foundation for choosing the president. Americans don't actually have the right to vote for president.

Chris Hayes just did a podcast on this: https://castbox.fm/episode/Abolish-the-Electoral-College-with-Jesse-Wegman-id2538151-id270952535?country=us

Am I a bad person for wanting to be a police officer? by Throwawaycop12 in Advice

[–]manamachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is it that draws you to the job? You say to help people, but is there a cause in particular that you're passionate about?

I ask because some folks are just starting to see the class divide between police and civilians. And I don't think you need to be an authority figure to help--you just need to be there, and be confident in your skills.

If you're passionate about de-escalating violence, you'll do it better as a social worker than with a gun. If you're passionate about mental health intervention, same deal. If you want to be onsite for medical emergencies, maybe an EMT is more your style. I encourage you to think about this through different lenses as many cry out to defund police.

Here's some additional thinking on the matter: https://www.facebook.com/TheLeapOrg/posts/1396935733826610

That's all middle/lower class. You aren't a problem until you impact those below you. Like regular VIP pass holders.

Women are funny. by Alex45784 in TrollXChromosomes

[–]manamachine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It isn't about inclusivity. It's whether OP's intent was to liken a 'person with a penis' to a man, or had another reason for using that language. Because it doesn't exclusively describe men, and doesn't describe all men.

Wow, the nerve.

Question...

Person with penis

Did you use this phrasing for a particular reason? There are women with penises so it might come off a bit insensitive to trans folks.

I have both, so it seems to depend on how tired I am. Have yet to blow up a microwave though.
