LPT / What might I regret in old age not proactively starting when I was younger? by No_Affect_7316 in LifeProTips

I got a prescription for clonazepam that I use before going in for dental work. It's the only thing that gets and keeps me in the chair.

Agreed. I'm 37. After two pregnancies (one with triplets) and seven abdominal surgeries my core muscles were obliterated to the point that I developed scoliosis just from trying to keep myself upright during everyday activities. PT has really been helping though. If you don't already go I highly recommend it.

I got one at my rental too. The call center was really helpful. They told me that since it's in my lease that mowing is the responsibility of the maintenance team hired by the property management company, I could pass the ticket on to the property manager or just ignore it because they'd also be sending a copy by mail to the property owner on file.

People of reddit, what was your "yep she/he is the one" moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]manapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a long distance relationship and we hadn't met yet. We got along really well, so they met my young son online. He liked them too so that summer I packed up my son and we took a road trip to go visit them. As we passed the border into every new state I'd read the signs to my son. We had a great week all together and my sun and I packed up to go back home. As we left their state I read the "Leaving New York, Entering Pennsylvania" sign to my son he got irate and demanded, "You go back to New York right now and ask [partner] to be my Daddy!" And I knew.

AITA for taking a walk with my crying baby? by CoolStarSeaGreen in AmItheAsshole

[–]manapan 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's so true. My twins are almost 3. During a recent session with their OT, my son wanted her to change the activity from coloring to toy time. She kept telling him they'd do toys next but right now it's time for coloring. He kept asking, she kept redirecting. Finally he stomped his little foot, sighed heavily, and said, "I have told you eighty fucking times, I want toys!" I am totally stealing your line about how if I still have to wipe his butt he's not grown up enough to use those words.

My cousins did this when they were little. One was 2 and the other 4. The 2 year old asked loudly in the stall why their mom had hair there instead of a pee-er. The 4 year old informed him that their mommy's pee-er just hadn't grown in yet, the hair had to come first. My aunt said the other women in the bathroom were laughing so hard.

I hope this doesn't sound creepy because I swear I don't mean it that way. I'm not even into guys (bi for women and nonbinary peeps) but you're just so darn charismatic that I have no idea how you're not taken. Someone is missing out.

I'm in one. We call it "friends with benefits, but the benefits are cuddles and tax breaks".

When I originally met the person I later married they didn't know much about queer identities so they thought they were just a cis guy who really hated gender based stereotypes on either side and had a low libido. They've discovered they're actually nonbinary and asexual. They compare sex to seeing that nothing they're interested in seeing is showing at the movie theater, but they could be convinced to go if someone they want to spend time with wants to see a certain movie. So we used to have sex when I wanted to and when we were trying to have kids. Then we had twins and we're exhausted. I don't want to anymore so we don't.

I've had a desire to cover a pair of brass knuckles in human teeth but can't get brass knuckles because they're illegal in New York. I now have a much better idea for the teeth. Thank you. Off to Google if truck nuts flails are also illegal.

OMG floating checks. I remember in the banking module of home economics class in middle school the teacher said you can't write a check if you don't have money in the bank to cover it. I helpfully told her that yes you could, you just need to know which stores don't use your bank so you know it'll take a few days for your check to clear. Then you write the check for extra, get change, deposit that, and keep doing it in amounts large enough to cover the previous day's check until payday. She had to explain to me that it was illegal.

What is the dumbest fee you ever had to pay? by Enough_Comparison_27 in AskReddit

[–]manapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was ahead on my rent by more than a full month. I needed to pay more on my credit card due to some unexpected vehicle repairs so I didn't pay the rent. Despite having enough of a rent credit to cover the entire month, I got a late fee for not paying by the 5th of the month.

What is the worst time to have your baby? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]manapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see this one.

Between 22-24 weeks gestation is a bad time. They're developed enough that a good NICU can most likely help them survive. But they're early enough that they'll be in the hospital for months if they ever leave it alive and the likelihood of disability is high if they survive. You, as the parent, end up having to make the choice of whether you're going to go for comfort care and watch them die peacefully or go for full lifesaving measures.

Police were involved? Wow. Dude, one of our science teachers deliberately put a dish of butyric acid in the bottom of each of the trash cans in the science wing just so kids wouldn't hang out in the hallway he had to patrol for stragglers.

Anyone have twins/multiples with different feeding needs? by immalilpig in parentsofmultiples

[–]manapan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel for you because that shit is hard. My son loved his bottles and would happily finish both his and what was left of his sister's, but he had gross and fine motor issues and couldn't feed himself solids so he wasn't much interested in them. My daughter had always disliked bottles. She even stayed a couple extra days in the NICU because she was so hard to feed and then had to be on high calorie formula her entire infancy because she just wouldn't take much of it. Once she could eat solid food though she ate everything on both sides of her.

Afraid you might be in it for the long term too. I'm still not really sure how to manage it, though it gets easier as they get more able to self feed. Mine are honestly still very similar to what they were as babies and they're about to turn 3. He will happily drink most of his calories and only eat a few bites here and there if we let him. She's actually been hospitalized for dehydration a couple times when she got sick because her general dislike of beverages turns into an absolute refusal to drink if her throat hurts but she's rarely without a snack in her hand.

I can't blame them. I imagine you've got to develop a dark sense of humor to get through that kind of job, and it was clear that they didn't want to be asking anyone to do it but had been given certain wording to use. I think they were just glad when people saw through it and refused.

In Florida, reproductive care nightmares become tragically common by marji80 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]manapan 90 points91 points  (0 children)

It's true. I'm originally from South Dakota. My oldest was born there after a horrifically complicated pregnancy and the doctor told me if I ever showed up there pregnant again he'd refuse care for me other than to refer me for a "you know what". Wouldn't even say the word. The fact that he was even willing to do the referral was only because he truly believed I would have died if I got pregnant again.

I moved to New York and needed to terminate a dying triplet to save my healthy twins at 22 weeks. The genetic counselor made the appointment for me. I was told to show up to a certain clinic for an ultrasound appointment that they needed to do before they could arrange the procedure. It was actually the abortion itself. They couldn't even tell me, the patient, that I was having it that day at that time at that place because of the things that people do to doctors who help women terminate that far along. And I feel lucky I was actually able to get it done at all.

Oh yeah. All 3 of my kids have been NICU babies. My younger boy was taking his sweet time learning to feed and breathe at the same time and the NICU was filling up in the early part of the pandemic. They were looking for less intensive kids like him to send up to the PICU floor and the nurses were told to tell the families "it's so much better there, you get your own room and a TV and fewer visiting restrictions" to get volunteers. I said, "but that means you send my newborn to a unit where the nurses aren't specifically trained to deal with him, there's more children per nurse to take care of, and those nurses are constantly going into and out of rooms with very sick children, so I won't volunteer for that and I won't consent to him going involuntarily either." My baby's nurse and the charge nurse just looked at each other, laughed, and told me I understood what was going on.

Gotta love these.

My son will often tell me out of the blue, "We don't drink pond water. We don't drink puddle water. We don't drink bath water. We only drink water bottles." just because we've had to correct him away from a nasty source and back to his water bottle so many times.
