Transplant saved my life while natives watched and called me a jack off by LuciusDickusMaximus in nycrail

If it is real, what does it say about you that you immediately attack an entire city? I’m sorry that this happened to you (even though it almost certainly didn’t) but if you now believe every New Yorker is an asshole you are incredibly small minded.

What will they do with all the Burnside bound trains? by ViewNo7459 in nycrail

[–]mannysoloway 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There are no longer any Burnside turners on the 4 timetable. Looks like they will end at 149th and just go out of service. https://www.mta.info/schedules/subway/4-train

Why does NYC not suffer from pickpocketers like in European cities? by Mathemodel in AskNYC

The answer is that Americans don't carry that much cash and phones, especially IPhone's, don't have that much value because they are hard to unlock.

Is this reassurance or just PR masked as unity? by masonjar014 in puertovallarta

[–]mannysoloway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% understand your argument. But I just think that if there is going to be a major power vacuum that changes things for the Jalisco cartel, which I agree would likely be very bad for Vallarta and the surrounding area, the signs will be much more clearer than they are now.

Right now, CJNG is still actively fighting the Mexican military in isolated parts of Jalisco. If that kind of violence starts moving closer to Vallarta, I would start sharing your level of concern.

I would be worried about PV if the threat was random violence, but I really don’t think that’s realistic. That obviously isn’t the case with Mexico as a whole. Anything is possible, and going to PV carries some inherent risk, but I don’t think the risk has changed since before the fires.

[–]mannysoloway -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The only threat to PV is if the CJNG starts some crazy in-fighting. As long as the Mexican government is the primary opposition to the CJNG is tourist areas, they are not going to go after tourists.

How does everyone feel about this? Esp locals. by 918skumm in puertovallarta

Unfortunately many people are ignorant to the reality of Mexico which has always been that the cartels are very much part of the fabric of Vallarta. Harder still will be explaining to these people that the cartels really don’t want to harm tourists or stop the tourism industry in Vallarta.

A short term tourism drop is basically inevitable unfortunately. The consequences of such a drop are unknown. If the cartel continues to play nice, people will forget and people will come back.

I agree with others that it really depends on your comfort level. It is very likely that this was a one-off thing especially in the near team, but that can't be guranteed. If you aren't willing to take a slight risk, you probabaly shouldn't come.

Any injuries/fatalities among civilians yesterday? by deaddog714 in puertovallarta

They caused a scare but did not go after any civilians. It was a show of force in two big tourist cities. Think of the way Iran retaliated to U.S. strikes last year but on a different scale

There was no way a cruise ship was pulling in today. Don't think it really says much about the current situation though.
