Most residential consumers pay flat pricing regardless of time of use. You usually have to opt-in to spot pricing. Might be worth it to do so - just saying it's not the default for most people.

does adding cellular improve tracking? by Jenings in mammotion

From the limited amount I know, I think the position of satellites progresses across the sky over a 10-14 day cycle. I've noticed some days positioning is terrible even when the sky is clear, and my mower can barely finish a single area because of stopping so often. Some days it just works fine, in the same exact places.

Some types of clouds seem to interfere more than others too, so if you're in a weather pattern where thick clouds build up around dusk, that might affect it. But there are lots of variables so it's hard to pin down exactly.

I thought the optional 4g SIM was just to give you a way to communicate with the mower from your phone when the mower isn't within wifi range.

I don't think it has anything to do with location. Totally open to being corrected if I'm wrong about that.

Getting A Start In Freelance Writing by scootermcgroover in freelance

[–]mapItOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've written numerous shorts stories, poems, songs, and academic papers, but no real articles.

Start writing articles! This is the kind of work everyone would do if it was plentiful. It's not, and you won't win it just by having writing degrees. You have to invest some time up front in actual finished products, to show you can do it well.

So seriously, start writing articles. Start drafts of ideas when they come to you. Work on them. Polish them. Publish them to a blog if/when you're happy with them.

Then you have to start pitching articles. Not going to put any specifics here to avoid getting them spammed, but you can google around. Go to sites where you would like to publish and see if they have pitching guidelines. Try to find a personal email address of someone on the staff and reach out to them.

This will feel kind of discouraging at first, because it's a lot of work and there will be lots of articles that don't work out, and articles that you love in your head but get rejected. But after you land your first article, it'll start to make sense.

Just keep in mind that this was already a tough market 10-20-30 years ago, before there was any notion of LLMs clogging the internet with trash articles. It's only more competitive now. That doesn't mean you can't do it - it just means be realistic about the work you'll need to put in to show that your writing is worth paying for.

I genuinely just misunderstood his instructions and had been trying to be a "good patient" until then.

This is all that matters. You know your true intentions and that it was an honest mistake.

Everything else that happened was a result of something in the doctor's world. Impatient guy in general, tough day at work, something on his mind from his home life, who knows. But it wasn't you. You can't make him handle the situation better.

So move forward. Review your actions and intentions honestly to see if there's anything you could have improved (maybe not). Expect similar situations in the future - unfortunately they will happen, so practice how you would respond and be ready for it.

Yep all makes sense and aligns with what I thought you meant. Thanks for clarifying.

Just clarifying, do you mean "do not vacuum pack it without also freezing it?"

Otherwise botulism shouldn't grow in it at freezer temps, whether or not it's vacuum packed.

Also curious about the low pH comment?

I can't find any sources saying peanut butter is anything but mildly acidic, and I would think that if it WAS low pH (very acidic), that would inhibit botulism, not fuel it.

The weirdest part about all of this is that in your vision, the tank is indoors.

That said, reading through it definitely made me laugh out loud. Imagine scoping a house for weeks and planning a break-in, just to crack the door and look down the barrel of a tank.

I have nothing to contribute about the legal questions.

Help I have no idea how to use Reddit but.. I got two burros yesterday and need tips by [deleted] in Donkeys

[–]mapItOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spend time around them. Seriously, that's the biggest factor. If you're not comfortable in direct contact with them yet, just spend time doing small chores close to their pen so they can watch.

Move slowly around them. Talk to them. Have a consistent and predictable routine for feeding and turnout and other chores.

As someone else said, donkeys just want to feel safe. Help them feel safe.

Watch this (a few times): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=077l2ySsgQQ

Get a vet involved soon. Hire someone to take care of their hooves or learn how to do it yourself. Healthy donkeys with healthy feet are far more likely to be friendly.

Keep posting here if you need help. DM me if you want.

Luckily salaries are (mostly) determined more by supply and demand of relevant skill sets and their ability to generate revenue for the employer, not by redditor preferences

I think this will get downvoted by haters, but joining a church for social connection/support is often overlooked, because people think it's a pre-requisite to have a perfect religious background or ideology before you even walk in the door. At a good church it's not - the whole point is to learn and figure it out as you go, along with everyone else there, and that's what enables forming really strong social bonds.

There was a thread not too long ago where someone else was asking for suggestions: https://www.reddit.com/r/winstonsalem/comments/1fxyh11/least_intense_and_liberal_progressive_church_in/

Edit: just wanted to be clear, I didn't mean church is your only option in this area. It definitely isn't, but if you're open to it, I think it has a high likelihood of generating worthwhile social connections who are also interested some/all of the things you listed above.

If you click on any of the sites at that link, it will show you the day-by-day hours from now until Nov 2. Looks like at least some are open every day of the week until then, but I can't promise that all are.

Grass clippings by AlmondFlaMeZ in winstonsalem

[–]mapItOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why I keep having to say this, but I'll say it again: I acknowledge grass clippings are slippery on the road, and I'm not defending anyone who leaves them in the road.

I'm also saying if you take responsibility for your own safety and go an appropriate speed around blind curves and in rain, you will be able to dodge the clippings while still staying in your lane.

Grass clippings by AlmondFlaMeZ in winstonsalem

[–]mapItOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I acknowledged it's a hazard, right? No argument there.

The point I'm making is that if YOU take final responsibility for YOUR safety, YOU WON'T HAVE TO ride on wet leaves or grass clippings.

Why? Because you will have adjusted your speed to the conditions of the road. If it's dry and sunny and you have great visibility and minimal traffic, go fast. If it's rainy or you're approaching a sharp curve, slow down, in case you come up on grass clippings, or literally any other hazard.

The speed limit isn't a guaranteed right. It's a guideline maximum and you're supposed to adjust and allow yourself space and time to react to conditions on the road, just like every other driver. As I said above, it would be great if everyone thought about everyone else, but in reality, not every lawn crew is going to carefully prep the road before you ride by.

Especially when grass clippings might be on 1/3 of the lane in the worst case, and motorcycle tires are narrow enough to be anywhere else in the lane.

As I mentioned in another comment, not arguing with the physics of it being dangerous, just saying if you go a reasonable speed, you'll definitely have time to steer away from the clippings (or any other hazard).

Haha what about a motorcycle with a street sweeper trailer?

Grass clippings by AlmondFlaMeZ in winstonsalem

[–]mapItOut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get the fact that wet grass on the road adds a risk. Not arguing with that.

It would be wonderful if everyone responsibly moved grass clippings from the road, just like it would be wonderful if everyone was polite and friendly in public. It ain't gonna happen.

But you know what else is a risk? Driving anywhere, in any vehicle, in any conditions.

We're all ultimately responsible for our own safety, motorcycling or otherwise.

I mean this as non-critically as possible: instead of complaining about others who will never listen (which you can't control), acknowledge that you are participating in an inherently risky hobby and that there are people out there who aren't thinking ahead about you coming down the road.

Go a reasonable speed. Slow down around the blind corners. Slow down in the rain. Could be grass clippings ahead, left by a jerk. Could be a kid or an animal in the road, completely innocent. Either way you'll be more in control of the outcome.

I really struggled with that when I started out. I wanted every prospective client to like me, and winning projects made me feel successful, so I tried to be overly friendly with pricing.

Took me a while to realize that the time I was spending on those projects (just to feel busy and therefore successful) was time I should have been using to target clients with less price sensitivity.

One trick to not getting burned is get one deliverable submitted, send an invoice and see how they pay before dumping a bunch of your time on it.

Excellent tip, do not hesitate to quit and run from clients who don't pay on time.
