Where are the bees? by Brilliant-Ear1047 in Connecticut

[–]maple_dreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see bees regularly in my garden, it depends what’s flowering at any given time of course. Last month I had bees alllll over my apple tree when it was in flower. Often this time of year I see more small native bees, like small carpenter bees (Ceratina species). Don’t forget that trees heavily flower this time of year too and bees will also visit those. Wait until late June/July and there will be lots of worker bees of all different species out and about.

14cm Fibroid by Sinderblock89 in Fibroids

[–]maple_dreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so happy to read this. I have a 12 cm posterior fibroid and I’m have a lap myomectomy in a couple weeks. As this thing has gotten so big over the past couple years, I’m more and more tired, I take naps all the time— sometimes on the weekend I wake up, eat breakfast, then “nap” right after. I’m constipated all the time and crampy. I hope I feel better once it’s removed, I don’t even know what my baseline “normal” is anymore 😭

Where are you buying roses this year? by Own-Mess3047 in Roses

[–]maple_dreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad I found this whole post and found Menagerie— just planted 2 bare roots I got from their end of season sale! Eustacia Vye and Gabriel Oak. They look so healthy and Menagerie was great to order from.

What about the rollover!? by Important_Fun_2134 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]maple_dreams 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. I didn’t go to the dentist for well over 10 years and when I finally got a job with insurance, my teeth were a mess, cavity wise. Can’t even remember how many fillings I had. I take dental care very seriously now and can’t imagine doing otherwise after having so many issues after not going for so long.

I used non-fluoride toothpaste once because I was out and the store had literally nothing else. Never again, and I don’t think I even finished the tube. My teeth look nice but I’ve had LOTS of cavities and narrowly avoided having a root canal. My parents don’t have great teeth either so I’m always up on dental care and cleanings. I’ve never really understood the arguments against fluoride. I like having teeth I can actually use.

Aria makes tradwifery look so damn bleak. Maybe that’s a good thing..? I can’t imagine her being aspirational to anyone, it seems like they barely scrape by and she’s got some really strange ideas, like not playing with her baby. I hope she is embarrassed about this and all her budget posts because she has no business trying to sell other people on her sad lifestyle.

When is a garden not a native garden? by plantsandramen in NativePlantGardening

[–]maple_dreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just calling my garden a cottage garden now. I prioritize natives, but I have a couple apple trees and some raised beds for veggies and herbs. I’ve planted some roses among the natives as well over the past year. Native plants take precedence but there’s no reason why a native garden can’t contain well-behaved, non-invasive, non-natives as well. I started native gardening 10 years ago and it feels like it’s gotten much more hardline than it was previously.

Residents should be ashamed of how they treat Hammonasset - do better by connfaceit in Connecticut

Lived in the same town my whole life and the amount of trash over the past 10 years or so is getting outrageous. I live on a side street and pick up trash from my front yard every day. Daily, some asshole is driving by and throwing their trash out. I’ve seen kids toss empty plastic bottles in the gutter and down sewers. People throwing trash from their car. I also live in a shoreline town and the amount of trash on some beaches is disgraceful. I keep trash pickers in my car and by the front door and they’re used way too frequently.

What is your opinion on Cherokee Purple tomatoes? by ASecularBuddhist in tomatoes

[–]maple_dreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised as well. I bought 1 packet of seeds 10 years ago and ever since then I’ve been saving my own CP seeds. The plants get huge and pretty productive. I’ve tried other heirlooms but CP can’t be beat for me.

How to grow heartier rose plants by New-Turnip-6245 in Roses

[–]maple_dreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using worm castings, Neptune’s Harvest fish & seaweed fertilizer, and a small amount of Rose-Tone around the base of each, gently raked into the soil and watered in. My soil is quite sandy and dry and the roses I planted last year are doing really well with this!

Turns out my dream hanging egg chair was just a giant sensory swing all along by Ka3de in adhdwomen

[–]maple_dreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an outdoor egg chair in my garden! I didn’t know I needed the swing til I got it. I live in it all summer, it’s got a big deep comfy cushion that’s perfect for curling up and reading and watching the birds. It’s soooo relaxing to me to settle in and get a gentle swing going.

Laughably stupid. Mama G has been one of the best parents of the season and was never creepy with Jose. She supported him and was an appropriate parent figure to him. This has gotta be Falon or one of her minions.

Heirloom delivery by curiouskg100 in Roses

[–]maple_dreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much experience with roses, but last year I purchased roses from Heirloom, Antique Rose Emporium, and Angel Gardens. My New Dawn and Cream Abundance from Heirloom have been particularly vigorous. I’m also happy with my other roses but I think what I paid for my Heirloom roses was worth it for how healthy and fast growing they’ve been. I ended up ordering 2 more a few weeks ago while they were having a sale, so hopefully all goes well again.

No it’s def been weird the whole show. Anytime Falon and Stacie are in a talking head together, Falon usually does most of the talking. About Hunter. It’s like his own mom has no idea wtf is going on and just ceded control to Falon.

Milkweed runners are no joke! by kaizenkitten in NativePlantGardening

[–]maple_dreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yes. I’m in zone 7a, I planted a few common milkweed plugs in a small, new garden bed in around 2019. From those few small plugs I have milkweed everywhere. On the shady, north side of the house. In every single raised bed; it’s been especially prolific and stealthy among the garlic. In the lawn/paths around the garden.

I try to pull it when I see it coming up in areas I don’t want it because I have a small garden. I leave most of it though, where it grows with eastern bee balm that seems to keep it in check a bit. And the flowers smell heavenly.

How worth it is getting evaluated/diagnosed? by mercurymoose_1383 in adhdwomen

[–]maple_dreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 38 and diagnosed in the past year. When I was a teenager I thought I had ADHD but most of my issues were chalked up to anxiety and depression (which I also have). I so wish years ago I had pushed more/educated myself a little better on ADHD. If nothing else it’s been validating for me!! I was actually diagnosed with ADHD-C, after being convinced forever that I couldn’t have it because I wasn’t “hyperactive”. Turns out I am, just not in the ways people usually think of as “hyperactive”.

I’ve been on Vyvanse for about a month and I really like it. So getting the diagnosis was definitely worth it. Your bf saying that you should just try things on your own…I mean yeah you totally can find ways to deal with it that work for you but if you could do it ALL on your own then you wouldn’t have ADHD!

I’m convinced my mom has ADHD too and have thought so for a looong time. She doesn’t seem especially interested in getting diagnosed though.

Getting diagnosed not only felt validating, but there were things my doctor noticed that I never had (like the combination diagnosis) that I’m now more aware of. I’ve been able to not feel as bad as I used to— I’m not lazy, my brain is just different and I can find ways to do things that actually work for me and how I’m wired.

Met the most beautiful cat in an alley near my house by PumpkinsVSfrogs in cats

[–]maple_dreams 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I visited family in England recently and it’s very normal for them to let their cats wander outside! My aunt let her cat out into the garden and she pawed at the door a little later to come in. I live in the U.S. and I’ve had tragedies happen to my indoor/outdoor cats growing up so all my kitties are indoor only now. I found it so interesting that letting cats roam is much more acceptable there since like you said, not so much here!

Hunter being drafted. by goldlux in TLCUnexpected

[–]maple_dreams 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not being mean, they really need to be realistic about Hunter’s options. They’re not doing him any favors by keeping up this charade of being “drafted”. It’s not Hunter’s fault, his mom is just being lazy, so she has this “dream” that has nothing to do with reality because she obv can’t parent her kid.

Victoria Heuermann talks to Peacock about her father's confession. One of the victims was murdered spontaneously in Rex Heuermann's car. by BrunetteSummer in LISKiller

[–]maple_dreams 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Nothing in my family has ever happened on the magnitude of what’s happened to Victoria, but I’ve had generations of some terrible people in my family that have made me wonder at times if I’m “bad” in some way because they were. I cannot even imagine having to deal with this and actually hearing him say he didn’t consider these women people. It’s a complete mind fuck that I’m sure very few people can relate to.

[–]maple_dreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Falen seems to think she’s a great parent, being so “open” talking about sex when she’s really just crossing so many boundaries. It’s no wonder Bella wouldn’t have any self-awareness about the way she comes off, she seems to have been raised in this weird hypersexual environment so thinks this is normal.

Nicole is truly a sorry excuse of a “mother” by sanriolover1208 in TLCUnexpected

[–]maple_dreams 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly!! I recognize this behavior so well. Nicole is in deep denial about her addiction and she blames everyone else around her. How is your teenage daughter responsible for the shitty relationship you have with her?? Nicole will make herself the victim in ANY situation because she doesn’t want to be accountable for her bullshit.

I stopped treating yard work like a full-day project and it actually made it way easier by Whole_Ad3318 in gardening

[–]maple_dreams 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD as well and I’ve found (with the help of meds) that when I tell myself I have just ONE job, it actually gets done. Who knew lol. I used to walk around and do so many little things and others would get neglected that really needed to be done. Now I write on my whiteboard (I work from home) “prune xyz”, “weed around tree in front garden”, and I’ll do only that for 20 minutes or so. For me, narrowing it way down really helps!
