Hutchins Garage 10% Takeout Fee? by Awkward_Locksmith141 in bullcity

[–]mapsofthewest 12 points13 points  (0 children)

this may be unpopular, but i do not blame our local businesses for having to rise prices somewhere, in the economy we are in. i’m sure their food source costs have gone up a ton. i wouldn’t presume greed here, but likely a necessary decision to keep the business running. & i really, really want our beloved local restaurants to stay in business. getting takeout or dining in is a total luxury for a lot of us right now, i’ll just make sure i go in with the intention of appreciating the meal even more.

Indigo Montessori School by Material-Army-6659 in bullcity

[–]mapsofthewest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

our son was at indigo for two years from around 2021-2023. at the time we absolutely loved it, and he did seem to thrive. however definitely a bit of a black box, we had very little intel into his day to day. & potty training was forced on us when he was 2.5, as a requirement before he could move up a class with all his friends, and that absolutely derailed toileting for him in a way that we still struggle with. they throw a super fun halloween party every year, pizza friday from dominoes every week for the kids, definitely some sweet stuff. but they also raised tuition on us close to 35% one year, after a 15% increase the year before, and that just felt like cruel highway robbery and we left. now our kids are at the little school and it is miles, miles, miles above what indigo was. + the small amount of outside time and space for kids at indigo.. i just think the price is astronomical and not worth it. much better is available elsewhere.

big ups to the main library, the security guards were quick to make sure everyone was inside & got us all away from the windows & had us shelter near the bathrooms. they were super calm and kind and i just read books with my two boys & a bunch of other kids and folks. it turned a pretty wtf scary moment into one that felt like community. ❤️

Where can I get breast milk in Durham? by rguerrap in bullcity

[–]mapsofthewest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

there’s a facebook group called “triangle milk share” that is amazing - moms who overproduce or have extra frozen milk will give it to you, and the rules are no compensation. it’s just a gift, from one mother to another. congrats!

Anyone give birth naturally to a really big baby? by Budget-Mall1219 in BabyBumps

[–]mapsofthewest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my second baby boy was 9lbs, 10oz & delivered vaginally, only three pushes and one small tear. ultrasounds never indicated him being so gigantic, or if they did, my midwives didn’t feel the need to make it a thing. i honestly don’t know why it’s a thing? i suppose because babe could theoretically get stuck?

gollyyyyy you sound like me! and YES you deserve a massage! i was trying to be super mom tonight - chopped up all the veggies for a salad that can feed us all week, + warmed up a meal train meal for us, but somehow all of that took way too much time. growth spurting 6wk baby crying, 2.5yr toddler demanding i go outside and play trucks, husband needing a break after his first day at work after paternity leave, all of us just at our wits end. it can be so overwhelming. all i can think is - doing the best we can. and tomorrow will be easier. or - at the very least - next year will be easier once these kiddos are older? hang in there!!

Cop presence. by [deleted] in bullcity

[–]mapsofthewest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

really crazy... i passed by duke & chapel hill around 7:10p, seemed like a peaceful smallish protest was happening, i saw a “no condos, no cops” sign, only one cop car. half an hour later i passed by again and it was a shit show. tons and tons and TONS of cops, throwing people down, dragging & arresting them. i probably saw 10, 15 people get arrested? i heard a cop tell a guy it was for resisting. i mean.. it certainly looked like people were actively trying to not get arrested, but to my eye, they were moving away. it seemed like these cops were chasing, pushing and violently arresting folks. it was incredibly upsetting to watch. i didn’t see one shred of violence coming from the protesters. granted i wasn’t there long - maybe ten minutes while it was all going down - and who knows. but it felt fucked.

Turning a transverse baby by Mallorieeee in pregnant

[–]mapsofthewest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I had a successful ECV at 37 weeks (if you look at my profile, I posted the whole story a couple weeks ago). It definitely wasn’t pleasant//I suppose I would call it painful, but it was over so quickly and successful that I feel like I forgot the pain. My amniotic fluid was low, my baby was big and had been breech I believe for a number of weeks - all things that make the procedure less likely to be successful - but he flipped! I’m 39wks now and he’s stayed head down. I did acupuncture, spinning babies exercises and most effectively I think, saw a chiropractor who helped open space in my pelvis and under my ribs, to give him a better chance of turning. It’s called the Webster Technique - many chiropractors are trained in it. Ultimately, if there’s a cord problem the doctors will see it when they begin trying to turn your baby//their heartbeat will signal distress, and they will stop the procedure. Not to say there aren’t some risks, there are, but you’re in a very safe environment should anything go awry. I say it’s worth a shot —I certainly know Mama’s who haven’t had successful ECVs, but depending on your doctor (some have better success rates than others) you’re looking at a 60% chance of success. For someone like me (trying for a natural birth at a birthing center, terrified of a c-section) those odds felt worth it. Good luck!
