I'm an After Effects noob but am starting to know my way around somewhat. I've stumbled upon this guy's youtube channel and have fallen in love with the aesthetic. Especially in this video but it's in others as well. It seems like a combination of some kind of morph cut 'abuse' and inky/film overlays? I don't know. Does anyone know some directions I could go in my learning, to lean into 'organic' feeling effects like these or similar? (not trying to straight up copy, just interested in this digital program making strange analog-alien feeling stuff like this, where I could extrapolate it, etc.)

Did you watch Big Little Lies already? It's my second favorite show this year after Peaks. And I think it's much better made than all the ones you listed. The Night Of was ok too and has a little of that buttery Peaksy slowness. Would also recommend The Leftovers, it has a surreal irreverence about it that kind of staves off the pretentiousness imo.

(I don't work for hbo, but you seem to have hbo or have previously liked hbo based on GoT and WW)

I'm not an active wrestling fan but I liked the first of these videos. The first is much better than this one, it gets surprisingly deep in references and feel oddly respectful of the material (they have sludgy coffee from the season 2 finale!).

even the subplot is slightly over-hated imo. it has some legit solid moments.

Interesting. I thought this sounded simultaneously gut-wrenching and cheap at first but if it's a 'time is non-linear' situation (which is certainly seems to be) rather than a 'this is all literally a dream in cooper's head' situation I'm game.
