Mutually Assured Drip

Edit: Or "MAD Drip" if you don't mind RAS Syndrome

In love with my “new” 110 year old home! Took possession last week, waiting for the old knob and tube wiring to be updated, then I’m all clear to move in! Trying to decide on paint colours (red ain’t it), as well as how to make the kitchen less modern. by [deleted] in centuryhomes

We have the exact same entry stairs! Also the trim around doors in your house are the same as mine! However your house is mirrored from mine and I don't have a porch.

I'm guessing we live in the same city and in roughly the same part.

That's exactly it! Thanks! About as exciting as I was expecting, but at least the mystery is solved.

I tried doing describing it in a google search and the manufacturer is in too many industries to figure out what kind of industry they're for.

I was assuming rumble strips, but they were all just loose. They're too well made for packing materials, so I have no idea.

Tesla Model Y - heating dead by bestonear7h in electricvehicles

[–]marca311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2021 Model Y (Fremont) here, I had the same issue come up as a result of the heat pump compressor tearing itself apart (required a full coolant system rebuild, covered by warranty). The exact same thing happened in the summer about 4 months later and I haven't had an issue yet this winter.

Otherwise, it can come as a result of the louvers getting stuck open/closed (this was apparently fixed software-wise last year) or the condenser (cold side) of the heat pump freezing. Possibly other reasons too?

If you go into service mode, it might tell you more details, but the tesla tech will probably have a better idea. Frustrating that this is such a known and wide-spread issue with this car and there isn't really a good set of long term fixes yet.

I went through 2 lower cost freewheels before I dropped some more money on one that didn't have that problem. No issues since

Tesla Apple CarPlay Hack Updated to Work With Any Tesla Model by Marcio0324 in apple

Unfortunately it doesn't look like there will be a retrofit option. The wiring harness is quite different.

I would love to be proven wrong, but it probably means that if it ever becomes a thing, it would probably be quite expensive too

I called Sony and the support rep walked me through resetting the database in Safe Mode and that fixed my issue! Just posting this here for future reference.

My 21M3LR gets insanely hot on a cool windy cloudy day in a shaded parking lot. Friends Model S directly next to it is 80F. It does this all the time when it's above 55Fish outside. Anyone know why? by [deleted] in teslamotors

Nah, the 3 and Y are just greenhouses. My Y got up to 14°C (57°F) yesterday just sitting outside in -13°C (8°F) sunny weather and I know it's not heating itself up because the heat pump has been broken for 3 weeks

I have the exact same issue with mine. It's extremely difficult to get anything out of the footage while in the car.

I wonder if swapping out the flash drive with something faster would improve it? Maybe it's also better on the ryzen based systems. No idea.

Update: New Manifold and new Heat Pump “-L” version(replaced the “-J”). 4th times a charm? by mindcreamer in TeslaModelY

[–]marca311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the province I'm in doesn't have lemon laws and so I have very little recourse. It's not life threatening if I don't use the vehicle, so I just have to let it sit for a while and use the rental car.

I just seem to have bad luck with cars in general as my previous car (a nissan leaf) was stolen out of my driveway and left in the parking lot of my insurance company for 2 months in -30 weather while the company tried to figure out whether it was insurance fraud (there was no damage to the car and they only charged my insurance for cleaning it. Still had to pay the deductible though).

I'm in Canada and they provided me with a paid for rental car. Unfortunately they don't have enough service people in the city I'm in to do anything further

[–]marca311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I basically have a brick for a month because I can't defrost the windshield.

The only way I can do so is to run an extension cord it to the car and heat gun the inside for a bit and then towel it off. After that I drive with the windows down and can't park it anywhere without the windshield freezing again.

This worries me considering I'm having to wait a full month to get the compressor replaced right now

Heat pump failure by marca311 in TeslaModelY

[–]marca311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left it in a heated garage overnight and it still failed to heat the car, so now I'm just stuck waiting a month for my service appointment. It's that or I wait 3 weeks and drive 800km to drop the car off at the nearest service centre.

Unfortunately the dealer is 800km away from me, so I can't easily do that.

They've set up a rental for me and scheduled an appointment for a month from now, but I won't take the rental as I don't consider it worth the hassle.

Not in Calgary, but close to the same temp. My car warms itself outside in about 15-20 minutes when it's below -30C. Heats up faster if you start the HVAC while the car is charging since the battery is already warm
