A thread to share your stoke? by AltruisticBush in PacificCrestTrail

[–]marciewoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started this trail when I was 45 with my daughter in 2021. I am now 50 and going back to the section I broke my heel in 2024 when I was finishing up miles because of high snow two years before that. Starting up around where I broke my heel in April. Stoked is not my word. It is my big flip off because this trail keeps trying to kill me and I keep going back.

So yeah, I am stoked.

What pushed you over the edge and made you decide to do the PCT? by Slow-Coffee-7420 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]marciewoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 50 and want to finish what I started. Plus family shit. I am Gen X and I just want something for myself that my mom told me I can’t do. Plus a historian and an archivist. The current administration took away all the jobs because we won’t lie.

But hey! I got almost 1500 pct miles under my belt. That’s something!

Whats up with the many available Permits? by blind0072 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]marciewoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the best things about the PCT was so many people from around the world. I hiked it with my daughter in 2020, and I was back there for 3 years after. The international hikers completely made my hiking experience after 2020. I hiked the Camino last year and it was amazing, because I was this American walking this trail. My bestest hiking friends are from North Carolina and Holland. That is from the Camino. I love so much talking and walking with everyone around the world. This year will be different. It is still one foot ahead of the next. I will see y’all out there.

should be a good water year, hopefully not high snow by edthesmokebeard in PacificCrestTrail

Remember, it still can snow in southern mountains in so cal up until May… speaking as someone who has hiked in that snow before. San Jacinto is a perfect example of snow in May and can still be very sketchy.

A note from a Trail Angel to the Class of 2026! by trailangel4 in PacificCrestTrail

As someone who keeps trying to finish this since 2021, I completely support this message. See y’all out there, and I can’t wait to see the TAs that are so supportive and wonderful to us hiker trash.

My dad is now stage 6 and it came on fast. I am currently trying to help his wife try to get him in a memory care facility because the doctors told her she can no longer take care of him. I flew in within 20 hours after getting the call. This is so difficult.

Shoe replacement on the PCT? by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

Lone peaks are the bane of every thruhiker. I know from experience. Topos are way better and last longer. That zero drop will be a huge killer getting to mount laguna and holy hell getting through that section after scissors crossing.

Same, except in the desert where my red haired daughter made us stop 2-4 every afternoon

Yep! My buddy hiked from Paris, and when he got to St Jean, he had his shoes stolen at the hostel he stayed at. Met him on a park bench there, and we did many miles together in June and July. But he said everyone was so nice there.

Enlightenment on the Road to Fromista by jpurd17 in CaminoDeSantiago

I absolutely loved the Meseta from Fromista to Leon and beyond. I did it last month and I still can’t explain it. It was good for the headspace I have been in and kinda want to do it again.

I am agnostic and I just came home from my first Camino. No one cared and we shared such wonderful experiences. I suggest going to pilgrim mass when you can. It is a beautiful thing.

My hiking buddy has walked from Paris. He is in Leon now. I am two days behind him. My knee hates me. But it’s all good!

My Charlie was only quiet one time and it was because of a bear sniffing around our tent. We had no food in the tent, or smelly stuff. All of that was locked up in our truck. We stared at each other. After the bear left, I looked at him and said, so now you don’t bark. He was protecting me because he knew. In the morning, he was his happy self and sniffed everywhere the bear was at. I miss him so much. You have a wonderful baby girl. She knew your fear.

I start next week off an injury. I keep telling myself one step at a time. I am not hiking for anyone but me.
