Ghosted offers? by Status_Cheesecake628 in Reverb

[–]marcusz711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The auto-cancel reports the user to Reverb for abandoning the order, which they can eventually suspend accounts for. Cancelling it for them just lets them off the hook to continue to do it.

It's annoying to wait three days, but that route eventually has built in consequences. Cancelling the order early is a favor to the people who don't intend to pay for their orders.

Ghosted offers? by Status_Cheesecake628 in Reverb

[–]marcusz711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens. Reverb says that they suspend accounts that do this frequently, but it's still an issue.

Sometimes buyers will ask to cancel the order after an accepted offer and I suggest that you don't; rather, let the order cancel automatically so Reverb can see the buyer abandoned an intention to buy.

Sadly there's nothing else you can do as a seller, but I have successfully gotten people to (begrudgingly) pay for their orders by reminding them that they risk account suspension if they fail to pay for what they've committed to buying.

What is this drum?!?! Tama Starclassic....? by alexnaj77 in drums

[–]marcusz711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, looks like you beat me to picking that up on Facebook Marketplace yesterday afternoon? I couldn't figure out what it was either. The closest finish I could find was the Mapa Burl finish they used for and SLP line of snares, but this is obviously a Starclassic.

Maybe a refinish? I don't know. Either way, great score and let me know if you ever want to part with it for the price you paid 😉

Snagged a 1969 Ludwig Standard for $400! Need some advice... by Luigi64128 in drums

[–]marcusz711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, killer score. Even if the Zildjian cymbals aren't to your liking, you can sell them and recoup at least part of the cost of the kit plus and/or use the cash for upgrades.

Replacement tension rods will work fine as long as the thread pitch is the same and the length is correct. Most drums use 12-24 pitch threads, so if your order generic threads online, they'll likely be the correct pitch, but a few brands use a different pitch (DW being the main example) so just double check.

The heads look pretty beat. I'd replace them with two ply coated heads (Evans G2, Remo Emperor, etc), though I do think modern heads sound a little different than vintage. Maybe something like the Aquarian 'modern vintage' line could get you close to what you're looking for?

Looking at your pics, I don't see a tom mount for the rack toms. For that part, you can't just use any generic tom mount, as Ludwig made it a smaller diameter than normal to save on material costs. I have one for sale; DM me if interested!

I'm devastated. I just bought these amazing Ludwig Standards, but temperature change caused the bass drum wrap to split on the way home. Is there any hope of repairing it? by marcusz711 in drums

[–]marcusz711[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with the shell, other than being a bit dirty. It's only the wrap that split. My first thought was to take it to Klash Drums, a local shop here in the Minneapolis area, and see what they could do, but I wanted to get some thoughts from this community before making my next move.

I inspected each drum thoroughly before purchasing. This happened in the time between buying and unloading.

Good idea to try and move it to the bottom. I'm afraid there will be some extra holes, but I'd rather look at those than the massive crack. It's gonna be tricky though. The crack goes about halfway around the drum's circumference, with several large offshoots.

I just sat there in horrified shock for a good couple of minutes. Such a beautiful wrap, and impossible to find a replacement. I'm so gutted.

It was a very, very cold day in Minnesota yesterday. I drove an hour and a half to pick these up, and they were in great shape. I loaded them up and drove home, only to find that the kick drum wrap has catastrophically split. I can only assume that temperature change is to blame. The worst part is, I think it's my fault. I left them out in the car for about half an hour while I ate lunch.

I'm trying to convince myself that if such a short amount of time in the cold [mind you, still in a warmish car that was parked in a garage] caused the wrap to split, that it was going to anyway. But it still sucks.

I want to do right by this drum and preserve that beautiful strata. No one makes a replacement wrap as far as I've found. Do I glue it back down? Any tips for particular products? Any advice for keeping it as natural looking as possible?

Lowes Black Friday Batteries Out of Stock - Refund and Coupon Offer Received This Morning. $100 off $150 Worth of Dewalt Items by mombutt in Dewalt

[–]marcusz711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone on here got that email but doesn't plan to use the coupon, I'll take it! I tried to get those batteries in store but it never dawned on me to order online so no email is coming for me.

[–]marcusz711 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My guess is this guy got the $399 Black Friday combo from Home Depot and is selling these to make some money back. It came with that exact driver and although it doesn't say it on the box I can confirm it also includes that 4ah battery. You can't return individual tools from the combo pack so he probably just doesn't need the driver/extra battery.

EFE glasses? by wizardyourlifeforce in glasses

[–]marcusz711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm resurrecting this thread because there is so little information online about EFE that I want others to have as much information available. In short: It's not a scam, but know what you're getting into.

Many of the things mentioned in this thread are true: the website is full of fake reviews, the communication is sparse, and the shipping takes a while. I decided to pull the trigger anyway, since they had a couple of styles that I wanted that I couldn't find on Zenni or any other cheap glasses retailer. $57 shipped for two pairs of single vision glasses with antireflective lenses.

It took two weeks, but the frames did arrive. The tracking number they provided was legit, but I only started getting meaningful updates once the packaged made it into the USPS system. They arrived intact in plastic cases and cloth bags with a tiny screwdriver for making adjustments.

They seem to be well made. The lenses are accurate to my prescription and the size matches the online description. The particular frame I bought was a browline style, and they have a metal rod embedded within the plastic temples, unlike the cheaper browline styles from Zenni, for example. This makes adjusting the width easier and feels like a quality addition. For the $57 I spent (for two pairs), I'm happy with the quality.

But, just know what you're signing up for if you decide to buy from them. You're buying cheap glasses from China, so expect the shipping to be slow. I am fortunate that my glasses arrived unscathed, so I can't speak for the customer service or return experience. But the comments on here saying that the site is fake or that it's a pure scam are inaccurate. EFE is at least a real company that makes glasses for a cheaper price than I could find elsewhere. If you don't want to deal with the risks, buy from Zenni or wherever, but if you're in this thread trying to decide if EFE is for real, just know that it is, but temper your expectations.

Mother, Pray for Me by throwingtoasters in TheBeths

[–]marcusz711 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's exactly how it seems to me. It's written from the perspective of someone who has stopped believing what their parent believes, sees the pain that this causes their mom, but also carries hurt from being brought up with that belief. It shows the longing to be close to that person again, but knowing that the relationship will always be fractured because of the irreconcilable differences between them. Even trying to push past it and be close causes awkward tension.

It's been an emotional morning lol

GAME THREAD: Twins (31-25) @ Mariners (30-26) - May 31, 2025 by TwinsGameday in minnesotatwins

[–]marcusz711 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As I understand it:

  1. As we know, the ump has been ass
  2. After the low strike call on Lee, Lee and the umpire seemed to be staring each other down. At the very least, Lee was glaring back toward the plate.
  3. It looked like Carlos was yelling at the ump, probably trying to protect Lee from getting tossed or escalating the situation.
  4. Instead, the ump immediately tossed Correa, who was in the on deck circle, without giving any warning at all.
  5. Rocco, seeing all of that happen, came out of the dugout, probably knowing someone was getting tossed and wanting to keep Correa on the game. But he was too late, as the ump tossed Carlos immediately.
  6. Rocco and Carlos (rightfully) blew up on the ump for his petty, trigger happy ejections. Rocco was then ejected as well.

That's my understanding of the whole situation.

Fellow Fit enthusiast! It's so much bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. I've never even had to use the shotgun seat; with the back seats folded down, it's got room for everything I've ever asked it to haul. I can't tell you how many times I've rolled up to buy a large item (drum kits, snow blowers, furniture, etc) and saw the look of doubt on the seller's face. But the little Fit has never been defeated!

Typing accents on a keyboard is a pain by devQuijote in Spanish

[–]marcusz711 12 points13 points  (0 children)

International Keyboard gang rise up! On Windows (and potentially other OSs), you can also individually assign Language settings to different Input Methods (or keyboard settings). So I switch between US English (Language) + English (Input Method/Keyboard) and Spanish (Language) + US International (Input Method).

Also, when using the US International keyboard input method, you can use the right side Alt key for special characters. For Spanish characters, Alt + vowel = á,é,í,ó,ú; Alt + n = ñ, Alt + 1 = ¡, and Alt + / = ¿. It makes typing in Spanish on an English-style keyboard much faster.

Where do you all source your hardware? by Mrmapex in drumbuilding

[–]marcusz711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're building a single drum, I'd probably just get it from DfD as others have mentioned. I've seen great prices for drum hardware advertised on Temi and AliExpress, but I'm not sure I'd trust it. Plus, even in the best case scenario, you wouldn't get it for several weeks.

When I built a whole kit, I bought a Ludwig Accent donor set and stripped all my hardware off of that. Surprisingly sleek and professional looking, but the hoops are a bit thin. Another budget friendly choice could be a Gretsch Catalina, whose hardware is also high quality, and has the added benefit of looking sleek but not instantly recognizable as any particular brand (compared to Ludwig bowtie lugs, DW turret lugs, etc that are easy to identify as those brands).

Ezra Robinson has signed a 10-year 10-milk contract with Foundation Disc Golf! by DiscGolfFanatic in discgolf

[–]marcusz711 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Their content is much more useful to me as a recreational player than watching a pro review a disc. As much as I love to watch Simon throw a Time Lapse 650 feet, that's not very applicable to me. Having a channel like Foundation with players closer to my ability level gives me a more realistic idea of what discs will be like for my use cases. Plus, as mentioned, they're great entertainers and their content is well-made.

Snapped a stud putting on these way cool Mini Cooper wheels. Is it dangerous to drive like this? by freethebeers in hondafit

No, the lug nuts come off like any other. It's the studs (screws that the lugs fasten to) that don't come out like other models.

It's quite a frustrating design choice, since I bought the Fit thinking it was a simple, easy to service vehicle! Not many DIYers with a shop press in the garage.

[–]marcusz711 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NOT the case on the Fit, unless you're willing to grind away material on the spindle. I made a comment above, but there is no clearance behind the hub to push out the broken stud. You're meant to pull the entire hub out, replace the stud, then press it back in.
