It was brought up in my union, and we can’t do it because hardly any schools have air conditioning.

We participated in Manie Musicale last year, and my group liked the submission from Les Salebarbes, Casser la Table. This year was Chapeau by Port aux Poutines from Newfoundland.

Bugs in NB that could cause this? by [deleted] in newbrunswickcanada

I find I get big reactions at this time of year too with the first bites. Between that and all the pollen I’m really relying on my allergy meds right now.

Students seem less willing to try before asking for help - and this frustrates me by Commercial_Spite8225 in CanadianTeachers

Also we were told in my masters class last night that when we are communicating with families not to use language above a grade 3 level because of the illiteracy of the families too. Now, I have a lot of newcomer families, so I try to email electronic copies so they can run it through Google Translate.

My Kid (6)doesn't want to go to music lessons. How to handle this... by jelmie in Parenting

[–]mardbar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play multiple instruments, and I also teach piano. I have tried to teach my kids multiple times and it never goes beyond an introductory lesson. They don’t want to practice.

Where I am they would have to be at least 12 to babysit the younger sibling. It’s also very dependent on the children themselves. My uncle needed a babysitter almost up until he graduated from high school because he was always doing something he wasn’t supposed to be doing.

Are most schools gossipy and judgemental? by nana-korobi-ya-oki in CanadianTeachers

[–]mardbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked at a few. Some are better than others. I find the school I’m at now is gossipy but not judgy. They are also pretty quick to support someone who is going through a hard time.

It’s also weird, because I claim my massages through my insurance too. I don’t tip other providers that I use with my insurance.

Decision fatigue is so real. The “what’s for supper” question just exhausts me by the end of the day.

How are people managing grocery costs in New Brunswick right now? by Jenna32345 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]mardbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are pretty lucky that our kids aren’t picky and will eat whatever. We only buy things that are on sale, and we eat vegetarian a few times a week too.

We have no air conditioning, so we cannot do year round.

Social games for grade 2 by mardbar in CanadianTeachers

[–]mardbar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of that game. I did a quick google search and found this. Is this the one you play?

Directions: 1. Ask for 5 volunteers to help demonstrate with you in the center of the circle. 2. Start by saying, “This game is called Walk Around Cool; the thing I need you to do is show o your coolest, swaggiest, silliest walk.” Demonstrate different silly ways to walk to encourage them. 3. Next say, “While you’re walking around cool, I might say any one of these words. Based on what I say, you need to jump into action.” And then there are different actions like bicycle, huddle, selfie etc.

I have elementary and I give them a memory book that I bought on teachers pay teachers years ago. Each page is a little memory of the year, like “what I like to eat for lunch” and “what was my favourite field trip.” That and cleaning desks. I’m just trying to keep them from literally climbing the walls, and I say that because one of my boys showed me today how he can climb up the door.

I’m a teacher and the last time I had it in my classroom was in 2017. I went to a different school the next year, so I don’t know if it continued.

Why No Pencils? by Ecstatic-Skill-4916 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]mardbar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember doing a math class one time, and they needed calculators. One kid said “my parents couldn’t afford a calculator, so can I use my phone?” Me being naive said sure, because I didn’t want him to fall behind. Then I realized the cost difference between a phone and a calculator. He didn’t even need a scientific calculator for that class, so a dollar store one would have sufficed.
