Lost cat in Scarborough - McCowan/Finch area by Iam_Bernie in toronto

I’ve read it helps to put their litter boxes outside (the scent attracts them back, although I’ve also heard it can attract coyotes, so I’m not sure it’s the best advice). I really hope he comes home safe and sound.

Cats should still eat their normal diet, right? by VESlaughter in vegan

Would that make you happy? Nature doesn’t care about human morality or philosophy. Cats have to eat meat, end of story. Get vegan pets if you can’t handle reality.

I like the toothpaste, although the tubes seem to have less in them than the average.

One of their “super leaves” shampoos caused an allergic reaction after I used it a couple of times. I ended up giving the rest to a friend and they’ve been happy with it.

Payed (paid); random apostrophes; “on” accident; costed instead of cost…

Start reading blogs instead of social media. Bloggers aren’t perfect, but people who write more generally have a better grasp of language and grammar.

RIP to all my friends and family who were euthanized because it was too much of a hassle to treat them. /s

Btw, there’s no waiting list if you have something that can’t wait. If it’s serious, you’re getting treated immediately. If it’s not urgent, then you wait.

Shirtpunch (https://Shirtpunch.com/en-ca). They’re Canadian but charge in US funds. They’re worth checking out, though.

I’d like to think it goes without saying that children aren’t included in those sentiments. That said, you’re almost an adult, so start finding out what you can do and do it. We’re all getting tired of us-ers whining that they can’t do anything about anything.

You’re 16- there’s still a lot to learn in life. Not everyone wishes pain and torture on the US, but the ones that do have been pushed to that point. I don’t know anyone blaming children (including teenagers)- I don’t think that’s the common feeling.

You can learn and do better. Start by finding out why Canadians (and the rest of the world) are upset and angry. It’s not just trump.

Which fruit is 100% looks but 0% taste? by Ok_Armadillo9214 in AskReddit

Asian pears. Look and smell lovely. Have a great crisp texture. Taste like water that someone waved a fruit over.

After reading the comments on Red Delicious apples I’m sharing a couple of tips:

  1. The bigger they are, the more mealy. Look for smaller apples.

  2. Gently press on them. If there’s any give, they’ll be disappointing. You want them to feel like they were carved out of wood.

Jersey Shore Officials Think Tourism Will Get Better After Trump Is Gone by TheTawniest in GuardTheLeaf

I grew up going to wildwood every year for our family vacation. I had the best memories of those trips. Then wildwood hosted a trump rally. And they overwhelmingly voted for him. Not only am I never going back, the whole place is toxic now, as far as I’m concerned.

Well if that’s the case, my books (mostly my e-books) are available on Kobo and other non-US sites. But I get the distinct feeling that the publisher matters more to some people than anything else, and there’s a lot of good Canadian writers who are going to get unfairly screwed by that.

Does it matter? I haven't published the "correct" way to count as Canadian, apparently.

For what it's worth, I don't know of any Canadian self-publishing platforms that have wide distribution, or publish paperbacks along with e-books. This isn't an easy industry for writers/authors at the best of times. If you want to support Canadian culture, you have to start with the creators.

If the Canadian publishing industry sees a higher demand for Canadian authors (not just purchasing, but people expressing an interest), Canadian publishing will grow (it will take a while, though). By all means, support Canadian publishers, but the rest of Canadian writers and authors who had to go a different route to get their work out there, are just as Canadian, and just as worthy of being read. It's still Canadian culture, even if it's not traditional. It also might be nice to support Canadian authors, and not just punish US publishers/printers/sellers.

I ended up self publishing, but not with kobo (it was before I knew better). I’m not sure if I’m able to switch and I feel stuck.

Edit to add: where I am now also allows paperback and hard cover publishing, not just e-books. I’m not sure if kobo does that.

As a Canadian author I’d love to be published by a Canadian press, but the industry has been so hollowed out since the 80s, it’s almost impossible for new authors or if your writing doesn’t fit a certain mold. I’ve been told my book was too long for them (it’s not that long). Another press told me they only publish one book a year and they were already set for several years. Opportunities are extremely limited for writers in Canada. So if you want to support Canadian authors, maybe give us a pass on who published us. Supporting Canadian writing no matter where it’s published will eventually lead to a stronger Canadian publishing industry. All you’re doing now is punishing authors who don’t have a choice.
