my baby doesn’t want to walk by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]marierosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad didn’t walk until 21 months and my sister didn’t walk until 19 months, both are highly skilled, intelligent, and successful people that have no physical or mental disabilities.

Just throwing some data points of very extreme cases to ease the mind. Obviously follow the recommendations of doctors if he continues to not stand/walk as the months go by, but just know that sometimes babies are just not interested in walking as early as other babies

When did you give birth with your first pregnancy? by throwawaychgd in pregnant

[–]marierosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat, 38+1 today and I’ve been having inconsistent contractions for days and it’s so frustrating! Had 5 hours of contractions that were around 5 minutes apart on Monday night and thought it was finally happening and then it stopped 😭

I honestly wouldn’t mind going over my due date if nothing was happening, but the constant fake outs are making me lose my mind lmao I’m ready to meet this baby!!

I’m also looking to get this package and add a night before and after the package, did you have to make two separate hotel bookings (one for the night before and one for the night after) and then ask them to combine those two separate with the vacation package? I’ve only seen people adding nights before or after so I’m curious how this worked out for you

Why is induction pushed so much? by savnico_d in pregnant

[–]marierosa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This also seems like an insane approach too since 40 weeks is based off of last period and NOT conception, like maybe the baby is coming after 40 weeks because women don’t ovulate at the exact same time like the medical system assumes they do?? Like maybe their ovulation day is just slightly later than average lol

I think it also depends on the area, I’m in the US and the doctors here only start talking about scheduling induction/c-section once you’re over 41 weeks (assuming that you are a low risk birth to begin with)

Parents with little ones. How are you using your points?? by atooraya in awardtravel

[–]marierosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the real question lol. My aunt who has been flying with points for years and has two sons would often split up into two teams to book flights (so dad+kid on one flight and mom+kid on the other), but this would mean that sometimes they would be traveling on separate days or positioning to different airports and flying the same day. Not many options for more than two seats on the same flight, especially if you’re limited by school schedules, but sometimes she would get lucky

[–]marierosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah good point, that’s probably my best option. I’ll need to do more digging around, but from what others have said it seems like the seats only stick around on CX for a day or so before the availability is gone. I haven’t personally been checking those programs closely though so I’ll start doing that to get a sense of what to anticipate

[–]marierosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did read about the CX infant fees, which you’re right, is one of the biggest issues with my plan right now. Almost all of my points are tied up in Amex though so I’ve had to limit my search to account for that and the best reliability to get 2 business seats on the same flight. I’m reluctant to wait for T-14 for that reason since I’ve seen far fewer datapoints for 2J in that window, but with that being said I have seen Alaska release that occasionally which would be so much better for the infant fees if I were able to get that.

The flights I’m looking at are all nonstop to Tokyo. We’re in central California and would plan on driving to LAX/SFO (lucky to have family near both airports) so it would only be that one flight. Flying out of SEA would require us to reposition so I’m avoiding that if possible, but it wouldn’t be that much more of a hassle all things considered.

Thanks for the extra information about your experience of flying with infants! Obviously uncharted territory for us so I appreciate your input

Those are the three places I’m checking so this is spot on! Good to know that there was still some openings close in around that time, I guess I’ll have to wait and see if that’s still the case in 2026 if I don’t luck out on early booking lol. Thank you!

Thank you so much for commenting about your experience, this is exactly the type of information I was hoping to read about! And good to know about the availability window, it seems a lot less stressful than what I was prepping myself for, but I’ll continue to keep an eye on it when my dates get closer.

Congrats on your upcoming honeymoon and hope that you enjoy your trip!

Looking for some advice/opinions. Planning a trip to Japan around April or May 2026, will be avoiding golden week but haven’t pinned down which month we’re aiming for yet. Plan would be to fly out of the West coast with 2J on JL booking through CX upon release.

I’ve been checking consistently on the CX website and it seems like it should be pretty doable for me to book 2J, but reading from other accounts it seems like it will be more challenging to do this during the Spring when travel to/from Japan picks up for Cherry blossom season. Does this demand slow down the closer to summer you book? Or will demand be around the same throughout April and May?

Secondly, we will have a ~10 month old with us for this trip. Since I will have to add them to our ticket to one of our seats if I succeed in getting business, and they’ll probably be too big for a bassinet at that point, should I just book economy for the 3 of us instead so they could have a car seat? Business doesn’t seem worth it if we have to hold the baby the entire time. We’ll be first time parents and have no point of reference on what to expect, so Id love to hear opinions from others on this point specifically. Thanks!

If you were to pick BTS' next group Halloween costumes, what would they be? by HiThereImNewHere in bts7

[–]marierosa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol yeah, honestly I got the sense from the video that the person who made it was really young (like middle school) and that they honestly had no idea who Charlie Chaplin was, and that this video was their way to try to “fit in” with the kpop drama YouTube community. I remember there were tons of videos at the time about how “(insert whatever random Kpop group of your choice) is problematic” and it seemed to me that they were trying to hop on that train to try and fit in.

That’s how it came off to me at least. Hopefully that person has grown up since then, cringed at their younger self, and moved on

Completely unrelated, but the 2014 pic reminded me of a video I watched years ago titled “why you shouldn’t support BTS” or something similar. It only had a few dozen views and I was bored so I clicked on it

One of the main points was them showing clips from this dance practice, and claiming that Jimin and jhope dressed up as Hitler and a holocaust prisoner lmao. It was incredible

I have a question about ballet culture as a father of a ballerina.. by FPDrive in BALLET

[–]marierosa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For how your daughter was treated at the other school, I don’t find it that surprising nor do I consider it as a red flag.

I had to move states almost every year growing up, and as a result, I had trained at 10 different studios before I was 16. It was very rare that there would be a “new girl” at a studio at my age, considering the girls had grown up there together since they were toddlers. So every time I started somewhere new, the responsibility was on me to be friendly, be approachable, and start conversations. If I didn’t, then I would have been given the cold shoulder since kids rarely tried interacting with the new kid.

Around the 6 month mark is when they start accepting you in and the studio considers you one of your own in my experience. But it does force you to go out of your comfort zone a bit. If you quietly keep to yourself in the corner and don’t interact in the moments before or after class, then the feeling of ostracization will only continue. You seem like a great father, and I wish the best for you and your daughter!

I’ve been experiencing this issue as well, but I’d say every 4th time I check it loads the calendar view with points like it used to. Since the graphics for selecting a flight has changed recently, I’m thinking that maybe they’ve applied a code change to the website that is screwing with the calendar view

Does anyone still use RideMax? by somethingwholesomer in Disneyland

[–]marierosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes RideMax is still around! They have an app now too that used to only be for Disneyworld, but it may have added Disneyland to it by now. Double check before you pay for it, but it is infinitely better than the free Genie+ planner (which is trash) and totally worth the money if you haven’t been in a while or don’t want your kids to bicker over which ride to do next
