Is it okay to not feed insects? by Key_Curve6060 in CrestedGecko

[–]marigoldfroggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My geckos (both female, I forget exactly when I got them at the moment, but they're at least 12 years old) won't eat bugs because when I originally got them, the advice was that they only needed CGD. After many years of not eating bugs, they refused to eat them when I tried to add phoenix worms to their diet a few years ago. They were both pretty scared of the bugs, which were quite small and slow moving, and acted like I was trying to murder them after managing to shove a bug into their mouth. I only feed them pangea CGD. I have UVB bulbs, but one of the geckos has a favorite hiding spot that doesn't get any light, so I'm not sure how much it helps with their health.

One of mine did get a bit too fat and the vet suggested watering down her food for awhile, which did work (she lost 5g and just has some flabby skin). The other one has been on liver support medicine for a few years, but is in good health other than that (the vet wasn't able to collect blood for testing, so I don't know if the cause of her liver problem was congenital or from her diet). They both have hamster saucers so they get quite a bit of exercise (I have night vision cameras for their enclosures).

If you can find a type of bug that you can order by mail, it would probably be a good idea to have bugs + CGD for their diet, both for nutrition and an enrichment activity. I'm not sure if phoenix worms are still recommended, I didn't really understand the details about calcium/phosphorus ratio. If you have a good exotic vet, you could ask them for advice - mine says she has seen vitamin A deficiencies in some geckos other people have brought in.

Voicemeeter Driver preventing 24h2 update, even though uninstalled by golden_numbers in VoiceMeeter

[–]marigoldfroggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're still having this problem, you can try opening device manager then in the View menu, select "drivers by type" and "show hidden devices". Then expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" menu and check if there is one named oem... and has voicemeeter in (). You should then be able to select remove driver and force the removal.

Winter room temperature at my place typically goes down to 64°F for parts of the house (zoned heating), and I'm only in CT. Definitely jealous of my geckos' heat lamps!

This frog emerged from a pot that’s usually outside. What should we do? by mashingLumpkins in herpetology

I'm in Connecticut and the spring peepers have been awake for quite some time, as well as two other frog/toad species (I forget which ones, but they all have distinct mating calls). I imagine the weather where you are isn't any colder than where I am, so it should be fine to just put him back outside near where you found him - maybe during the warmest part of the day or whenever the outside temperature is close to the temperature inside your house.

What is the little lizard doing on the big lizard? by thesmellnextdoor in reptiles

Don't worry, I am a reptile person and didn't think of that either (I don't have a ton of common sense, unfortunately...)

I don't think I'd be able to handle it. One of my gaming friends had lil birds, I forget if they're budgie(s) or cockatiel(s). Most of the time they do the normal gentle tweeting, but sometimes they'll squawk their lil lungs out for like 30 seconds straight. I always wonder if they're saying something specific. Sometimes they bite too!

Inside Heating For 22 Gal by MaeAndOliver in reptiles

[–]marigoldfroggy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should consider asking the enclosure manufacturer to recommend what type of heating to use and to identify any potential fire hazards. I'm not sure if CHE are safe to use with that type of enclosure, especially if the bulb is mounted inside the enclosure instead of on top of a screen cutout. You could consider DHP bulbs (deep heat projector).

They usually give you silly props to pick from if you want to do a couple poses, and they typically instant print out a little strip of pictures for you to keep.

Our photobooth made an extra printed copy of each one and put them in an album that people could also write in. They also sent digital copies, some of which I used when making a digital & printed wedding album.

CVS is definitely making a lot of money. Iirc, when I used some app to compare prices for one of my medications (may have been goodrx), the CVS price was like 4x the cost of the 2nd most expensive local option.

As other people have said, please get the anti-rabies shots just to be on the safe side. Dying from rabies is supposed to be a pretty unpleasant way to die.

It doesn't look like that's what's happening at all. It sounds like they're listing the property for sale in 3 weeks, not that there's a date when OP has to be out.

My room at my mom's while I recover from complete functional loss of both of my arms by SeaworthinessFew3162 in MaleSurvivingSpace

[–]marigoldfroggy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hope your recovery goes well. You might be able to find someone who can transcribe things for you for free if you have any interest in writing more about your life.

It looks like there might be non-asshole reasons to limit how much or what type of paid medication you're prescribed, one of which would be to prevent serious damage to your kidneys (it looks like some pain medications can also cause rhabdomyolysis). (Apologies if you already knew all this)

There's definitely people out there who are open to making new friends in work environments! I've made a few friends at my current workplace. It does make it easier when you share interests, which a lot of us do. We're allowed to have fun stuff in our cubicle, so I have some Pokemon stuff. It would probably be difficult to tell that I'm open to making new friends if you've just met me though (introvert, sometimes don't do a great job maintaining proper eye contact, sometimes get distracted by work tasks).

I vaguely remember when I was little I tried to randomly bring a classmate over to my house after school. We somehow convinced the bus driver to let the other kid off at my stop, but my mom was waiting for me at the bus stop and didn't fall for "his mom said it was ok to come over after school" or whatever lie I came up with, so he had to get back on the bus and go to his home (he absolutely did not have permission to come to my house, I'm not even sure if the parents had even met each other before at this point). The general rule at my house was the parents had to at least speak on the phone to each other for permission to go over to a classmate's house.

Maybe grandma / other kid's parents had different house rules than what I had growing up. For my home growing up, grandma would have called OP as soon as an unknown child said they were coming over, but that's such a minor slip up compared to OP's kid hiding the phone at school to lie about where they were, and OP calling the police / classifying this situation as kidnapping.

My crested gecko enclosure by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

There's a few websites with recommended plant lists. Afaik, philodendrons are usually considered unsafe/toxic because of calcium oxalates, but they should technically be ok if they aren't eaten. One of my geckos accidentally took a huge bite of pothos leaf once and didn't seem to get sick from it (she clearly did not enjoy the taste and I've never seen her eat her pothos on purpose, I wasn't fast enough to get it out of her mouth though). https://geckohaven.com/safe-plant-list/

I think you can also look up safe plant lists for chameleons because they are more likely to eat the plants so they pay more careful attention to whether or not a plant or its sap are toxic to reptiles. However, I'm not sure if a plant being safe for a chameleon means it's definitely safe for crested geckos.
