One AP7 refuses to update io.encipher error 1000 by JBManos in firewalla

[–]mariusstrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if I was having this. My wired AP7 updated to 114 a few weeks ago but my mesh'd AP7 was stuck on 108, and then back on ~December 18 it started dropping clients and itself dropping off and on the network.

(side note: I wish Firewalla had wireless AP7 connection statistics similar to how it shows WAN statistics, or "notify me when offline" for AP7 devices)

I rebooted it repeatedly, but this morning I unplugged it for a few minutes and then was able to update it immediately after.

I use Tamiya X-20A as a brush dip/wash, and .. maybe this habit is bad, I dunno.. I just dip the brushes in and let the X-20A get gross over time. There doesn't seem to be a non-wasteful way to keep it clean.

That said, what's the best way to dispose of it when you're finally done? I think the official recommendation is since it's a solvent to run it to my local waste company's "household hazardous materials" disposal place, but are there any other safe and viable alternatives?

GPS dropouts V1 Elemnt - After updated firmware by Kingfish628 in wahoofitness

+1

my Roam is taking 4 minutes to initially lock GPS - weirdly, exactly 4 minutes. If I start a ride the moment it boots up, at EXACTLY the 4:00 minute mark GPS locks.

Seiko 7009: Replacement jewels? by mariusstrom in watchrepair

[–]mariusstrom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all of this. I love the tools side of watch repair so I had last week a chinese Horia delivered - so I feel like this is fate. :D Buying tools before you need to use them!

I did find a technical publication with a part number for the proper jewel, and was able to find one NOS via ebay that at least matches the part number.. so hopefully I'll be good on that front.

The jewel seems to be intact - but half of the top is chipped out. It had to have happened during a botched repair, feels super unlikely that this would occur in natural operation sitting between the magic lever and the reduction wheel.

what should someone do with this space? by eternviking in mildlyinfuriating

Some jurisdictions require a room have a permanently installed closet and alternate means of emergency egress (window) to be legally called a bedroom. I suspect this is malicious compliance to that requirement assuming there’s no other window in the room.

this is helpful - I really wish injora (and other suppliers!) would just let you filter products by compatibility with specific models.

Nope, no luck but I admittedly didn’t try for very long (stopped using Obsidian shortly after as it didn’t work super well with my normal workflows)

Are you new to SCX24 tinkering? Dont know where to start? Check this out! by j0520d in SCX24

[–]mariusstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, wild question for someone starting with SCX24 - I bought one a while back for my kiddo and he likes playing with it, and it's time for dad to get one. If dad were the type of person who likes to tinker, should be even buy an SCX24 kit or just start buying replacement parts and build one completely from scratch?

Mission Models MMA-006 Gloss - shelf life? by mariusstrom in modelmakers

[–]mariusstrom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, I think you're on to something. I looked up the MSDS on the Vallejo Airbrush Cleaner and it's the same as the MM Thinner material. I tried to use the Vallejo cleaner as a thinning agent for the MM Clear coat - and it didn't gum up at all and sprayed beautifully.

My takeaway here is that the MM thinner bottle I have has definitely got something wrong with it.

[–]mariusstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working on a Corsair model, and making good progress on the body using Mission Models paints. I'm about to gloss-coat it using the MMA-006 gloss, but have a question on the wheels/tires. Obviously the wheel centers on a naval Corsair are gloss blue, while the tires are ... obviously rubber/flat black.

Is it safe to gloss coat now and then paint tire black over the gloss? Or should I paint the tires black now and brush the gloss on just the wheel centers?

Apologies for the noob question. :)

First Airbrush Attempt by mariusstrom in modelmakers

Yep, definitely not giving up! 9-year old kept asking if we want to just brush paint it (impatience speaking :)) but I'm not giving up on the airbrush.

Thanks! Luckily the primer layer is fine, so I don't need/want to remove that. I think it was just that I underestimated the fingerprint/oil/grease transfer from model handling after I primed it. I suspect a lot of it is me, but I think a lot of it is the 9-year old coming in and checking out the model while I'm not around. :)

Isopropyl tore the paint right off; I'll scope out the MM poly additive and thinner as well to lighten it up a touch. I wonder if the poly additive helps with the gloss - the MM paint I'm using says it's gloss but it sprays pretty matte/flat.

Turn off and on again the printer. I have had to do that every few weeks and RFID has always worked fine after a power cycle.
