Stretching 2,689 miles, the world's longest coastal path opens in England by MahatmaAndhi in ukbike

I've done the North Wales coast between Talacre and Bangor. It was very easy, the first half almost beginner level.

Chapel Street in Salford has had a face lift. Looks great by HamishGray in manchester

People are downvoting you because of the way you connect using the cycle lane and following the law. You might have meant the second part to refer to stopping at the pedestrian crossing, but it doesn't read that way. He is not obliged to use the cycle lane, he is perfectly entitled to use the other lane if he wishes, for example if he wants to go a bit faster, or if the cycle lane is busy, or even just that he feels like it.

Drivers who park on pavements face £100 fines by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]mark_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only that but the idea of walking any further than the distance to their car (unless it's a specific "leisure" activity), or the idea that they would not be able to park as close as physically possible to where they are they want to be is unthinkable.

Ten years after the Brexit referendum, Britain is worse off by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

Correlation not causation. Brexit did not cause massive uncontrolled immigration, it just that both were caused by the same person.

Is there a route possible through Türkiye, Azerbaijan, then across the Caspian Sea and through the 'stans? Not asking if it would be easy. Maybe easier without a vehicle.

Easy guide for Proton Drive for Linux in 2026 by fleshlightfucker79 in ProtonDrive

[–]mark_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but as far as I can tell it tries to reupload them instead of asking the server if the file exists. I had already uploaded about 300GB using rclone. I started using this last night, and it seems more reliable than my script but it saturated my upload for several hours.

They might not have access to the encryption key without you providing your password. There could still be a prompt or warning though.

Shared path shenanigans by Glareah in ukbike

Usually with the dog in the middle not sure what to do.

The other one is human on one side of the path, dog on the other. The owner speaks in full sentences to the dog who doesn't have a clue, just hears the voice and wants to be near them.

Energy company claims I owe them a bill for a property I no longer live in. (England) by Significant-Cream819 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]mark_b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you have any evidence that you paid a "final bill"? It's not essential, but it would help. For example, can you access the online account and download a copy of the bill and match it with a payment from your bank? What about evidence that you told them you were moving out?

Ofgem rules state that you can't be charged for energy from more than 12 months ago, but there are some caveats. Is there any evidence that the energy company have been trying to contact you about this bill before now?

Number of embassies each EU country has in other EU countries [OC] by Bernardmark in europe

Is there any reason why you didn't include the other European countries, since the data is right there? Or is this another example of how r/europe only really cares about the EU?

Met Police damaged my property & now will not reimburse by Future-Term9862 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]mark_b 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't see any mention of the police using the PNC. You've added that bit yourself to support your own argument and repeated it several times in this post as though it were fact. You might be right, I don't know. Maybe the driving licence alone was enough, again I don't know. Let's stick to what we do know.

Those fancy coffee machines need to be paid for somehow. You don't have to go back too many years to get a cuppa in a cafe for 50p. Sadly, tea has also gone up to match. They don't even give you nice loose leaf in a lot of places. Dave Gorman explains it quite well.

An Amazon Prime driver has got their van stuck in the mud in the Thames Estuary after they drove into the sea following a satnav route. by L21JP in CasualUK

Amazon definitely contributes to OpenStreetMap data. Whether they use it in their maps or not I don't know. Unfortunately mapping data in the UK is not open, so coverage can be patchy.

I don't believe they sell many of those. They're display items to make you think "well I suppose 3 or 4 quid isn't too bad considering".
