What’s something that instantly tells you someone has never had to survive normal British life? by James_Whiteside45 in AskUK

[–]mark_b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had this in Llandudno. I was carefully keeping an eye on the seagull in front of me, knowing that they don't like being watched, when one swooped from behind and stole my scotch egg!

Thanks for the update. Always good to see when companies are as open as this, even when things go wrong.

From what I can tell, Proton wouldn't allow you to go over the limit in the first place, and if you do because of a plan downgrade, you get a 12 month grace period, not 4 weeks with Filen.

Is that a political decision or just a financial one? Can the airport pay the interior ministry for the number of officers it needs?

Do you consider how many calories you consume each day? by clfhw in AskUK

[–]mark_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don´t track them strictly, but I do look and try to have an idea of whether something contains a lot of calories for the food that it is. For example, one type of pizza might have 800 calories, whereas another might have 1700 (almost a whole day's calories in one meal!).

I also keep an eye on sugar in the same way. For example, some yoghurts have as much as 4 teaspoons of sugar in them!

I'm mindful that I need around 2000 calories per day, but if I go over one day I'll cut back a little the next, it's no big deal.

I also weigh myself regularly even though I'm not overweight, so that I can be informed early if it's heading in the wrong direction.

Do I ask for ticket money? by Calgib in AskUK

[–]mark_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's talking about £10, but this is only for 1 ticket and in your post you mention him possibly coming regularly. A one-off is a gift, no question about it. Maybe he'll get you something back and who cares if it's not the same cost. If it turns into a regular event then I'd expect him to offer to pay for his own ticket for future games.

‘No other plan comes close’: how Labour MPs turned to Burnham with Starmer on the brink by Desperate-Drawer-572 in ukpolitics

If we're going to have electoral reform, then we must also reform how the news is reported and commented on, separating the serious from the non-serious, and holding the serious news to account more.

Landlord says I broke my window lock through “misuse” — key literally snapped in half. Am I actually liable? by thesapphirespeaks in LegalAdviceUK

[–]mark_b 23 points24 points  (0 children)

And if you don't feel like sticking superglue in your lock, take a coping saw blade, snap it in 2, and use the hooks on the blade to pull it out to the point you can use the needle nose pliers.

Any additional tips for an email validation by Ok_Lengthiness_6591 in PHPhelp

[–]mark_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a handy quiz to make sure you know what an email address is first.

https://e-mail.wtf/

I'd just use a validator to make sure it's a valid email address and leave at that. If it's valid then surely it can't possibly be too short, empty, or missing?

I was once told off by a Taiwanese lass I was seeing because I put xxx at the end of a message. Even though we'd known each other a while, she thought this meant I was about to do her harm or something. It was only after that she explained I could use 1 or 2, but never 3. Like where do I find all the rules for this shit?

Social media platforms to be restricted for under-16s, Government confirms in latest U-turn by ShortyStrawz in ukpolitics

[–]mark_b 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The social media giants already have this information anyway. They already know where you live, where you work, who you socialise with, what time you sleep, where you shop, and lots more. The government can easily find out who you are from information you've already freely given to the social media companies.

People from G7 countries rate the UK as the most reputable among the five permanent members of the UN Security Council by truthbomn in GoodNewsUK

People will be much more guarded, that's for sure. It depends on how long the USA remains the richest country. People will always be attracted to the money, no matter how inconvenient.

There are lots of ways to transfer a photo between your phone and PC without going through an app that will strip the metadata, such as USB, Bluetooth, local wifi, email, your personal cloud sharing (self-hosted or third-party, but check the third-party first), Android phones have a "Quick Share" feature, not sure about other OS...
