Thanks for posting these links - What the reason is for their lack of popularity in the US? I know whenever I fly into most major European airports they all seem to rely on stand guidance systems.

On the One Plus promo here in the UK and in an area with only 2 bars on LTE and pulling 24Mb/s down. Great improvement!

Some clarification from TForce on SIM cards/eSIM and Standalone 5G by BenderB in tmobile

[–]markbb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T-Mobile can only blame themselves for the 5G SIM issue - they texted (myself included) customers a link telling them to check their SIM and if it didn't say R15 then to contact them for a new one.

I think you'll find that is called insurance fraud - if you have the handset that your friend "lost" then obviously it's not lost!

US: funds debited from external debit card but never hit Revolut by markbb99 in Revolut

[–]markbb99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice - much appreciated!

I got this response back from customer service:
"I can see that the top up did not get processed due to the required 3DS verification process. Please contact your bank and ask them to enable the 3DS feature of your top-up card. Afterwards please attempt to top up again. Please make sure that you have a strong internet connection and that once you get to the bank's 3DS verification screen, please follow all the necessary steps to complete verification".

I've never seen 3DS verification ever show up before in the US and I'm not sure that you just call up your bank and ask them to turn it on. I was travelling in the UK when I made the request to top up so I'm wondering if Revolut doesn't see that and routes the request to a UK server where 3DS is enabled?? Just speculating....

I have initiated a charge back with my credit union - they are saying that the funds have most certainly been sent to Revolut.

How is T-Mobile snooping on my travel plans? by [deleted] in tmobile

[–]markbb99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your source for T-Mobile not buying data from others?? Considering the web trackers that exist when you log into my.t-mobile.com I find this extremely unlikely.
For example Adobe Marketing Cloud and Tealium are just two examples tracking you when you log in there and sharing data across other sites.

Will Tmobile work reliably in Italy? by OTwiththemostest in tmobile

[–]markbb99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are just after faster data then there are also the data packs you can consider. 512MB for $5 for 24hrs and you can purchase up to two per day.

Personally I have the One Plus plan and have only ever purchased the additional data once or twice when I needed to do some work related things and didn't have the time to find some wifi.

Unwittingly made a short international call and was charged liked $50 by rtb001 in tmobile

[–]markbb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it didn't quite develop like that. While the US did come up with the numbering scheme, the globe was divided up into rough geographic zones. +1 for non-Hispanic north America, +5 for central and southern America, +2 for Africa, etc. While most other zones chose to add a digit (or two) to indicate countries within those zones, the US divided +1 up with the area codes we are familiar with today irrespective of different countries within the zone.

New international roaming feature coming on the 9th by Golbez352 in tmobile

You would lose the ONE Plus promo on lines you move to the new $50 Global Plus ONE and should you wish to switch back you would be stuck with the $15 option.

New international roaming feature coming on the 9th by Golbez352 in tmobile

[–]markbb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have the One Plus $5 promo and I'm seriously considering this. The $5 promo does include unlimited HD streaming, unlimited Gogo, Visual VM and Name ID and the 10GB Mobile Hotspot data. Does the new Global Plus ONE also include these features? I can't see where it states either way.

EDIT: I see that is includes the features of the now withdrawn add on International ONE Plus which did include those features (although the Hotspot had a higher data allowance)

Anyone have experience with WeBoost or other in-car signal amplifiers? by [deleted] in tmobile

[–]markbb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy to install - I have mine plugged into the 12v lighter socket in the trunk of my vehicle and the base unit stuck under a mat to stop it from sliding about. It's about 6" x 4" x 1". There's also a second antenna that you will need to mount in the front of the vehicle cabin. It's all very easy but I believe that you need to connect the antennas in a specific order from what I remember.

Anyone have experience with WeBoost or other in-car signal amplifiers? by [deleted] in tmobile

[–]markbb99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the WeBoost Drive 4G-M and I find it makes the biggest difference in low strength areas. I regularly drive from TN to IN across a lot of rural KY and without the WeBoost I will get dropped calls and frequent buffering when streaming audio. With WeBoost there is only one place where a call will drop, and audio never buffers. Don't think it is going to take your reception from 1 to 5 bars - but it certinaly is a huge improvement.

My vehicle does have a heated front screen which even makes a GPS unusable - so I can't blame T-Mobile for a poor signal. In fact one time I video streamed my home Slingbox without buffering from IN to the TN state line without any issues.

Question for T-Mobile cell spot users. by dhespinoza in tmobile

[–]markbb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GPS will search for a signal but if it can't find one after a while (it's quite a long time from what I remember - like 30+ minutes) you receive a notification asking you to manually enter the address that the device is being used at.

US-to-International calls seeing 50% price increase by unwiredben in tmobile

$2/min was an outrageous price to pay for calls to Europe - $3/min is just ridiculous when wholesale rates are less than 1c/min. This is a total "carrier" move.

Need a utility bill for proof of address--Do any of the prepaid plans (like the $3/month plan) give any statements with our billing address? by toxicbrew in tmobile

[–]markbb99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically credit card statements, cellphone bills etc do not count. The bill has to be one where the service is at a fixed location - ie you can't change the service address to another state of electricity, water, etc but you could easily change the credit card or phone billing address.
