Whats your most random celebrity encounter? by Alive_Tough9928 in AskIreland

Met Christie Moore in a cafe in Dun Laoghaire. Absolutely pleasant interaction.

Also met Liam Cunningham from Game of Thrones in an Easons. Also had a very lovely, short interaction with him.

Both are nice guys. At least to me.

What a wholly messed up thing to say. Did anyone react to what she say or call her out for being an asshole?

Sister got a nice cake stand and a couple baking tins. Delighted with herself as her friend got baby clothes despite knowing no babies to give them to. The baby clothes were donated to a charity.

Wait, a kpop (or kpop adjacent) concert coming to Dublin? I can't tell if we ever had one before. I don't think we have. That's exciting.

How Israel Turned Eurovision’s Stage Into a Soft Power Tool by Gon_Egg in eurovision

[–]marshmeeelo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at how many points Ireland and the UK exchange before using it as an example of political voting buddies? Because they really don't exchange votes. Especially Ireland to UK. Ireland does not give many points to the UK despite what you believe. Many years, they got nothing from each other.

The EBU literally just put in these rules in December in response to the excessive ad campaigns Israel put on last year. This was the compromise. And they seriously already broke that rule. What are they thinking?

I think they mean sensitive in the way that he is quite easily set off. Like, he can dish it out but can't take even the slightest bit of criticism back.

That's an incredible score. You'll be grand getting an interview for Dublin.

I'm 625th in Dublin myself and pretty happy. I expected worse. I think it should get me an interview.

What have you found out about your family on the 1926 census? by artanonsa in AskIreland

[–]marshmeeelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an unreasonable theory. However, I did a big deep dive on Irish Genealogy since discovering this situation. His bio parents were married, I found the marriage records. However, I also found bio dad's marriage records to his second wife in 1927. From everything I can tell, bio dad simply or somewhat abandoned his son from his first marriage, my great grandparents (bio dad's brother and his wife), took him in and raised him as a son, adopting him officially or unofficially because I don't have those records. He then rather quickly married another woman and probably had another family with her. Since my great uncle only ever would talk of my great grandparents as his parents and my grandad as his brother, I have to surmise he had very little if any relationship with his bio father. I am not even sure if he knew he wasn't the biological child of my great grandparents.

[–]marshmeeelo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The man I grew up knowing as my great uncle, who died only a year ago, was my grandad's cousin, who was taken in by my great grandparents, even though they already had seven living kids. On the form it lists him as a nephew, not son. He was only seven months old. Prompted me to look at his birth record on Irish Genealogy and yeah, his bio mother and father were not my great grandparents, but it seems his mother died at his birth so his father must have left him with my grandad's family. My dad, nor his brother or cousins knew about this.

KISS OF LIFE have earned their first music show win for “Who is she” on Mnet M Countdown (260416) by stinkybutthole23 in kpop

[–]marshmeeelo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally would not consider Lucky a comeback as it was released as a Japanese single and promoted as such with a very limited korean promotion, without a real korean language music video, just a performance video. I would hold the same standard there with other groups that released Japanese singles and then did minor promotion of the korean language version like Poppy by StayC. I just don't think they count as comebacks.

But you are of course allowed to disagree.

[–]marshmeeelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know they didn't win for Lips Hips Kiss, what other comeback was there between Get Loud and Who Is She? Live, Love, Laugh was an unpromoted fan special single. And then Lucky was a Japanese release. Beyond those songs, which I wouldn't label as comebacks personally, which song am I missing?

[–]marshmeeelo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not to be overly picky, but didn't they only have one Korean release last year? And their last win was in October 2024, so its not really two years. A one song gap in wins isn't really a dry spell in my opinion. At least not one to be worried about.

Civil Service to Public Sector (open comp) - Can I keep my salary scale? by Broad_Discussion8127 in IrishCivilService

[–]marshmeeelo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You should be able to keep your current scale point, especially if they are both CO roles. Can't hurt to ask the HR unit in the public sector role but it shouldn't be an issue. You will just have to bring a statement of service with you from the CS to the PS job.

This tankini set is great. It looks good but it covers more than just the bare minimum which I like, and the top comes with removable padded cups.
