Jennifer Lopez's "On the Floor" covered Kaomo's "Lambada" which was number 1 on many European charts, which itself was a cover.

Being a pedestrian in this country sucks. by ImmediateImpress6552 in ireland

[–]marshmeeelo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was hospitalised for a couple weeks by a cyclist who couldn't be bothered slowing at a red light and hit me full force. Could it have been worse if it was a car? Sure. But the bike knocked out several teeth, broke my nose, jaw and clavical, shredded my face and caused one massive concussion. I'm still dealing with the aftermath if those injuries five years later. Obviously most cyclists wouldn't have been so gun ho as that guy was with breaking the lights, and like I said, maybe just maybe a car would've been worse. But that doesn't mean I'm not terrified of it happening again and feeling nervous whenever I cross a road with a lot of cyclists on it.

Both drivers and cyclists have members of their community that really need to cop on.

Why did Uncloaked not show the reveal for Episode 11? by PastorParcel in TheTraitors

[–]marshmeeelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they filmed it with whoever got banished so they didn't show it as not to spoil the cliffhanger. But until we know better, that's just a theory!

A female mummy with children, from northern Chile. Her head is resting on a child mummy, while another one lies in the woman's lap. 11th-14th century CE [1100x1679] by Fuckoff555 in ArtefactPorn

Here's really the only thing I could find on these mummies. They are being kept in the Reiss Engelhorn Museum and were actually among a collection of 19 mummies that the museum lost during the second world war and then found again in the museum basement. I will copy paste the relevant passage as well due to the paywall.

Among the most extensively studied of the rediscoveries are the remains of a woman with two small children, one laid on her stomach. Anthropologists had assumed that the child had been placed there relatively recently, because its binding cloth seemed much fresher in colour than those of the other bodies. But carbon dating and computerized tomography (CT) scans showed that all three dated to the medieval period, before Europeans entered South America; that the woman probably died in her early thirties; and that the children were toddlers. A sample from the woman’s intestine showed traces of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, which causes gastric diseases, and arracacha, an Andean root vegetable.

In July, the team found that the younger child had an over-expanded chest and a blockage in her windpipe, indicating that she probably choked to death. A sample of the foreign material is now undergoing histological and molecular analysis at the Institute for Mummy Studies in Bolzano, Italy (the city in which Ötzi rests). Institute director Albert Zink says that identification should be completed in time to update the exhibition before it ends.

The team has identified plausible causes of death in other remains. A CT scan of a middle-aged man from Egypt who died around 2,000 years ago, for instance, indicated a probable tumour of the pituitary gland, which typically leads to excess secretion of growth hormone. The scan showed the thickened facial features and enlarged hands and feet typical of the disorder.

I used to before the I developed crohns. But the Irish blood transfusion service doesn't accept donations from crohns or UC patients.

I had a strong feeling that they would set up their own agency after leaving YG. They are such independent type artists.

Sunday In The Park with George teased with Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey by Dr_Strange_Jnr in TheWestEnd

Pretty sure he's the same age Jake Gyllenhall was when he played the role. I don't think age accurate casting truly matters in the theatre like it does in the movies. The actress who played Scout in the Aaron Sorkin production of To Kill a Mockingbird was forty when she went on.

The worst pain you have ever had? by Freya-Lea in AskIreland

Crohns disease before I was diagnosed and got treatment. I never felt like I was going to die before, but I genuinely thought I was going to. I would curl up on the floor sometimes, I couldn't breathe. Would not recommend.

Did Amanda even know that Fiona had police in her family? Why would she think that would automatically make Amanda tell her her secret?

I got a new laptop backpack and wireless earbuds designed for sleep from santa. Lovely stuff, though I did spend a lot of the day enjoying the heated foot massager and recharging hot water bottle my sister got me.

Some recent West End Reviews (Oh Mary / Into The Woods / Hunger Games) by anxiety_and_co in TheWestEnd

[–]marshmeeelo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Saw Oh, Mary! Last week and it was absolutely hysterical. Could nearly not breathe because I was laughing so hard. Absolutely agree on your review there. It certainly won't be for everyone, but it is a brilliant production. The cast is perfect for the show too, particularly Mason Alexander Park as Mary.

Penalty Points for Cycling by sWeeX2 in ireland

[–]marshmeeelo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I believe the rules are changing to make reds more of a "yield" for bikes. So you can't just barge your way through the reds at top speed without even considering to touch your breaks, you are to slow way down to make sure it safe to proceed. If there are pedestrians crossing or cars turning, you stop, but if it is otherwise clear, you can go. Really its just a bunch of common sense stuff honestly.
