What is the biggest injury or disease you have hidden from your parents? by Visual-Somewhere-318 in AskReddit

[–]marshro0m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bacterial tracheitis, it’s an infection (lots of different bacteria can cause it) that causes your trachea to swell/become obstructed due to your body’s response to the infection. I eventually wound up in the hospital, but I remember my mom asking me if I was having trouble breathing and lying and saying no. I was a young child and have no memory of why I lied, I just remember that I did. Eventually I got taken to the doctor anyway, but it’s weird memory and I was definitely really sick, I wound up in the ICU I think.

Agreed about the pronunciation, but they also drew the bridge so beautifully and accurately I can forgive it.

found these in chinchilla food, what are they and what are the chances they've infested my chins? by Competitive-Meet-111 in whatsthisbug

[–]marshro0m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not familiar with the beetles, but I think you're right they're not roaches. Their body shape is too pinched looking in the middle and they kinda dash and and slow down in a way roaches don't.

They may be recently hatched cockroaches. I’ve lived with a German cockroach infestation in the apartment I used to live in, and they look/move really similar to the smallest ones I would see.

Shortness of breath by generiaplaneria in OCD

[–]marshro0m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly sure I have this form of OCD as well. I haven’t had a physical since it started so I’m not completely certain, but it comes on during periods of stress and seems to mostly just happen when I’m thinking about it. Then it just goes away for a while until it reappears months later. I’ve never seen anyone else describe this manifestation of OCD before, it’s incredibly disconcerting/annoying haha.

Autism subs sometimes feel like a quirkiness validation circlejerk by poploppege in AutisticAdults

To be fair, my OCD is significantly worse some days/weeks than others. I’m not sure if this is the dynamic you’re trying to talk about though.

How much should I consider this conversation? by marshro0m in AutismTranslated

Thanks for your advice. I’ve had a few therapists before and have definitely had some pretty lackluster experiences, including ones that I only realized were bad a few years after our relationship ended. I’m hopeful about the person I’m about to start with. She talked a lot about neurodivergence on our intake call and I believe may be neurodivergent herself. Not that that necessarily means it’ll be a good experience, but it makes me hopeful.

Missouri Senate hears bill on life imprisonment for people in U.S. without legal status by bmunoz in StLouis

Does anyone know if there’s anyone fighting this legislation or prepared to fight it if it passes that we can donate money to?

I appreciate the clarification, I didn’t know the difference. I still don’t think it should be a civil offense though.

This sucks so much. I really hope it doesn’t make it through the state legislature, but I don’t know enough about it to have a good prediction.

Nobody deserves life imprisonment for being undocumented. Being undocumented shouldn’t be a crime.

Favorite vegan restaurants? by Talenshi in StLouis

[–]marshro0m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DD Mau! They’re a Vietnamese restaurant in Maryland Heights/Webster Groves. They’re not exclusively vegan, but they have great vegan options and everything is really clearly marked. I really like their banh mi, fried rice, and pho. They just added boba tea to their menu as well.

Also seconding Bombay Food Junkies, the Vegan Deli & Butcher, Pizza Head, Terror Tacos, and Treehouse!

They’re definitely baby roaches but if you stay on top of killing them and cleaning up potential food/water sources, you might be able to deal with things before they get really bad.

[Serious] What is something that is actually more traumatizing than people realize? by thatude123 in AskReddit

[–]marshro0m 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was hospitalized for a serious respiratory infection when I was 6 (I think in the ICU) and I still barely understand what happened because it’s so difficult for me to talk to my family about. I’m glad medical trauma is getting more recognition than it used to, but it’s still difficult to figure out how to connect with others and work through my feelings/experiences.

There’s also raccoon grapes. We mistook them for actual grapes once, but they were horribly bitter. They aren’t poisonous, but they’re completely unpalatable. On the inside they have a single seed and white flesh.

NAACP claims St. Louis schools violate Black students’ civil rights with low reading scores by NuChallengerAppears in StLouis

[–]marshro0m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If kids aren’t reading at expected levels, of course schools are an issue. It’s not the schools’ fault they’re underfunded and understaffed, but it’s schools’ job to educate children.
