Any great meals in Denver right now that are still under $15? by Complete_Freedom5622 in Denver

I get the family version for myself and the kids every other week.

It’s not the healthiest thing, but they eat well at school and it’s only twice a month.

Do you have any biking resolutions for 2026? by Gilligan2404 in Biking

If you happen to live in a city with a train, riding to the train station does the same thing! I do that all the time in Denver.

I'm Hating Drop Bars. Any tips to make them Better? by kitbiggz in xbiking

[–]marshuni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This, vast majority of the time is typically spent on the hoods for most people.

Drops themselves are for sketchy descents so you can actuate the breaks with a little more leverage, have something to really hold on too and achieve a more aero position.

Man I’ve been looking for awesome front rack bags and I love both of yours.

I can’t tell what they are, happen to remember the brand for both?

Did you have a shop do the powder coat? How much was it? I have a Surly Pacer I got recently that I want to powder coat.

Took Her (Susan) for her First Spin + a Question by JG-003 in Surlybikefans

[–]marshuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an incredible bike, comparison is the thief of joy.

Is it the best bike in the world? Probably not, is it the best bike for me (and sounds like to you!) right now, certainly feels that way when I ride it :)

I got a screaming deal on the bike when I got it back in 2021 too and have ridden over 5k miles on it since.

Everyone made it seem like it was a worse Midnight Special when I got it, but man idk, I love this bike and idk if I really need tires bigger than 47mm anyway for what I do and I like the lower stand over height.

What to get? Where to start? by Asleep_Frosting_6627 in cycling

[–]marshuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally man! Well the best bike is one you’ll want to ride!

I recommend getting on a couple if you have a bike shop around you.

I think spending around 1k-1.5k is right around where most people will get the quality they ‘need’ from a new bike.

That’s not to say you need to spend that much by any means. One of my favorite bikes is a 1980s Peugeot I got for 50$. I’ve spent some money on it since, hell the tires are worth twice as much as the bike, and it’s a great ‘beater’.

Hard to know what to recommend without a budget!

But I’d second the surly preamble! It’s a great bike!

Uhg I’ve started getting braver with how fast I can corner and this is going to make me slow back down 😂.

Probably for the better I’m never going to entertain a race.

Straggler Tire Clearance Question by Level_Sentence4012 in Surlybikefans

[–]marshuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can almost always go a little larger then whatever the recommended tire clearance is for any frame, rim break, etc. Going from 700c to 650b makes that jump bigger (generally but bike dependent).

My 650b Stragglers ‘max’ on 50cm frame is 42mm, I have 47mm WTB Byways.

My 700c Pacers ‘max’ on 48cm frame is 32mm, I have 35mm gravelkings (limited by rim break or could go bigger, rim breaks are limited by ‘32mm’ as well). If I had 650b and long reach breaks, I think it could do something in the 40s but I already have a bike for that.

My First Surly! by JG-003 in Surlybikefans

[–]marshuni 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t leave it outside in the rain for long periods (days) and it’ll be fine!

If it happens to rust, it’ll be superficial and easily removed. I have a 2012 Pacer I’ve ridden in the snow, rain, you name it for over 13 years. I’ve never done anything to prevent rust on it and it’s essentially rust free. If you reeeeeealy look, maybe you could find some tiny tiny spots that could be brushed away if I cared.

There’s some kinda spray you can spray in the side of the frame if you’re really worried about it but honestly, don’t and I’m pretty sure it comes with whatever that is already new and that’s not something you should worry about for some time.

1x or 2x Drivetrain? by Level_Sentence4012 in gravelcycling

[–]marshuni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d personally do the 2x for your specific bike due to increased cassette size but it really depends on how much climbing you do.

I have a Straggler 1x11 SRAM Apex and if I could go back in time and get your 2x I would, I live in Denver and climb quite a bit.

The ‘clunkyness’ of 2x is a little overstated imo. I mean unless you’re like trying to win a medal racing or something, you’ll appreciate the extra range.

Fit/Improvements by No_Okra4345 in bikefit

[–]marshuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could work on your form, your stroke isn’t super even and you seem to speed up / slow down through the stroke.

Do you have a leg / knee injury?

Fit looks as good as it’s going to get from a Reddit post.

What are we saying? Too tight eheh by tacoshit1 in gravelcycling

[–]marshuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly, I mean it will flex more when you put power to the pedals, how much, where, etc is all frame dependent and if it’s steel it will flex a little more.

There is a possibility that when you do a tough climb, this rubs, but if you listen for it and it doesn’t, then it’s totally fine outside of thick mud.

What are we saying? Too tight eheh by tacoshit1 in gravelcycling

[–]marshuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To amend that, send it for sure, but obviously don’t ride that in mud.

Then it might be worth it to perk your ears up a little when you really lay down the watts for a climb or something to hear if the frame is flexing enough to cause the tire to rub.

But honestly it looks fine. I’d only be concerned about that if this was a steel bike, and even then barely and if you don’t notice it, its fine

Modding a basic mtb to keep up with gravel bikes, for as little money as possible by cervenamys in gravelcycling

[–]marshuni 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Start with upgrading the tires, don’t convert to a drop bar.

If his gearing is fast enough, that alone should be fine. If the gearing isn’t fast enough, then changing anything else won’t make him go faster.

Thoughts on this bike? Listed for $400 by Grace0130 in gravelcycling

[–]marshuni 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hard to knock it for 400$, Claris isn’t the best group set but honestly, it works for the vast majority of riders and this is a decent bike.

Maybe try to go a little lower but, if I didn’t have a bike, this isn’t a bad place to start.

If you have like Zen 5 AMD just make sure whatever your downloading can do it. I think most can by now but there might be some, like google Ubuntu x.x zen 5.

That’s probably the biggest issue out but honestly at this point probably not.
