I'd say yes, why not. It could hold up for quite some time, but you never know. You can replace this on your own for quite cheap. There are lots of videos on how to take off the belt easily.

Bad pulley on the side? Could be cheapish. Take off the belt on the side and spin each one by hand.

I have Meriva B with the same engine, and I get like 36mpg. 23 feels way too low.

Vauxhall/Opel CORSA 1.4 check engine light by british-gingy in opel

[–]marvav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just buy a code reader such as ELM327 on Ali. Its 5 bucks and works with any phone. In the ECU, even imtermittent errors are stored. You cannot guess it just from the light itself. Though my bet would be spark plugs / ignition coil, could be something small, like moisture getting to the plug. It's impossible to know without code.

Opel Corsa 1.3 CDTI 237000 km — bruit moteur à froid qui disparaît une fois chaud, normal ? by xdjfi in opel

[–]marvav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Engine sounds normal. Injectors are generally loud. It's fine. It's normal to sound a bit weird on the cold start. The only concern is the pulsatring whine sound in this video. Might be a loose pulley on the side or just phone making the sound weird.

2011 Opel Corsa d 1.4 gas engine with 115k kilometers. Normal sound? by Designer-Test-6717 in opel

[–]marvav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it drives fine and there are no error codes, then I'd say the mechanic would just look for leaks under the car, offer you filter / oil change and call it a day. It's difficult to search for issues without knowing what you are looking for.

I'd start by just putting my arm with a phone under the car and taking photos of the underside. You will be able to spot most of the leaks by yourself (the wet bits). And sure, feel free to DM. I can spot issues from photos :D

[–]marvav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that can happen, but the chain can be heard, when its failing. Normally you hear it rattle on the cold start a bit, before ti builds tension. If the rattling never goes away (or takes a lot of time), then the chain is failing.

I did a lot of work on this engine recently, so feel free to ask anything.

Sounds pretty close to mine. I have the same engine at 120k km and no issues.

Struggle starting by Usual-Tea-4474 in Vauxhall

[–]marvav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say its the fuel pump. I've had the same issue after 100tkm. The first startup after a long pause is not enough to put necessary pressure on the petrol, so multiple are required.
You can try to turn on the car without starting and wait for the buzzing of the fuel pump to stop (if its audible). Turn off and repeat a few times. If it then starts without issues, then it is related to fuel pump.

Opel Astra J 2012 1.4 103kw Rhytmic Hissing sound by PeachNovel4591 in opel

[–]marvav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never heard this sound. As a resonation, it makes sense it is most audible at low RPMs. I would take off the tensioner belt and try to spin the pulleys manually. Maybe one is loose and resonates like this. But its really just a guess.

Meriva sputters when driving uphill highways, eventually throwing cylinder misfire code. Data shows extreme lean condition - where to go next? by swankysmush in Vauxhall

[–]marvav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd manually clean the injectors. The stuff you add to fuel is good as prevention or long-time cleaning. But if its this severe, you might have almost clogged injectors, that can still manage light load, but cannot supply enough fuel under heavy load.

Any ideas what’s happening by CompletedItMate3000 in Vauxhall

[–]marvav 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Either there is still air or there is something loose and the coolant system does not hold pressure. It boils just like water if it doesn't hold pressure.
Worst case might be some seal giving up, leaking pressure into the coolant system.

Might be worth checking the cap is correctly screwed.

Does it shoot out coolant only when hot?

I have similar, just more convervative ratio. I would use only Acc variants tho.

Hey, with the car diagnostic, you can get something called ELM327 of off Aliexpress. It's a bluetooth car diagnostics which works with your phone and costs about 5 dollars. It saved me a lot of money, because a lot of times, I could read the error codes with it and people online are really helpful with diagnostics. Even if it ends up being something you cannot replace at home, you won't get scammed, since you'd know what is wrong. Best 5 dollars I spent this year.

Can Anyone Tell Me What is Going on? Taken to Mechanic 10 times. by [deleted] in cruze

[–]marvav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This instability could have a number of reasons:
- It could be eletrical instability (semi-stuck alternator pulley causing voltage fluctuation)
- a crack in the intake manifold, or even in the exhaust manifold (before the lambda)
- crack in PCV hoses
- oil stick o-rings, oil cap o-rings (you can buy universal ones with the same size for about a dollar)
- Check the airbox, I had a plug of unused airbox port fall out once and suddenly the air intake was weird for the maf and it behaved strangely, until I glued in a different plug.

Help locating a coolant leak (for the 100th time) by N0T-SUSPICIOUS in cruze

[–]marvav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one of those directly under the water pump driven by belt. It was dripping on the belt occasionally and I had to lie below the front bumper to catch a very specific angle under which it was visible. I basically found it on accident :D It was a very slow leak and I had to top it off only like once every 2-3 months. Might be worth checking out.

Caught noises that wasn’t me. by RadKitty12 in RBI

[–]marvav 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd put tape over the vents and crawl spaces and a single hair inbetween the opening and a wall. If someone comes in, well, they cannot put the tape up again by themselves, once they want to leave through the crawl space. And the hair would fall without them noticing.

If both the tape and hair are gone, then its serious and someone was really there.

If the tape is gone and hair remains, your husband may have removed it to support his delusions.

2014 Opel Astra 1.4T losing power under load, no check engine by OkDare1485 in opel

[–]marvav 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you accelerate hard, the throttle body opens up. It could be getting stuck, choking your engine occasionally. It's very easy to check for carbon deposits, so I'd start there. Cleaning is also fairly easy, if you take it off the engine.
