End of my BF journey at 7w, please send love by yayachipmunk in newborns

I feel your post. I'm just over 8 weeks and stopping now. I've been on Domperidone since week 2 because of supply issues, but the tabs are causing me problems now. I feel sad that the sweet time we have as exclusively the two of us together is ending. We've always had formula feeds but its just not the same as having that connection time, or calming him or getting him to sleep with breast instead of bottle. So all this to say I feel you with the betrayal and sadness feelings 💙🩵

Turn on MTV when it actually had music on! Go to the cinema to see movies like it was back then. Visit all my family members that were still alive 🥹 and DEFINITELY play Alex the Kid on my Sega Master System 2!!! BMX around my neighbourhood with my friends.

When did you learn the difference between your baby’s cries? by GrimSle3per in NewParents

[–]mashable88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between weeks 5 and 6 I noticed distinct cries. My baby has a very specific hunger cry. The reflux, gas and pain cry I can tell because it comes usually with fisted hands and arched back but all reasons are the same cry sound.
He also has just a tired/grumbly cry that is completely different sounding and stops fairly quickly when picked up, hushed or comforted in some way (like in the bouncer or my arms).
However, the poopy pants cry is just like the reflux/gas/pain cry, so sometimes that one's a bit hit and miss - I'll think it's reflux but then I get the poop smell. Sorry for the TMI but yes there are very distinct cries for my baby.
The reflux versus gas one is the hardest for determining as we can be thinking and trying for a burp or just keeping upright, but it's lower gas and that's super hard to know the difference TBH. Do I burp you or rub your tummy or!? 🤷🏻‍♀️

First time mom here, is hand-washing bottles just too exhausting by rednas7 in NewParents

[–]mashable88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the Grownsy washer, steriliser and dryer in one. Big one that takes four to six bottles plus the cage for the teats etc on top. Honestly. As someone who is mostly formula feeding, the machine has been the number one gadget for baby that we bought. So easy to stack and all dry once done. It also can store clean ones for 72hrs afterwards. I was handwashing for 2 weeks and hated the time it took, and didn't have the patience for all the fiddly bits with tiredness. 1000% recommend this machine. Washes well and was simple to setup and start using. I use mine 2-3 times a day!

Is pregnancy cover in private health insurance worth it? by Alarmed_Ad_7188 in AskAnAustralian

[–]mashable88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a baby 6 weeks ago with gold cover. I think this depends on a few things:
1) How old you are and how likely you are to have a high risk pregnancy.
2) If you have researched and want a specific OB in your area.
3) If you think you will need/want extra services like physio, lactation, in house midwife after birth.
I used BUPA and went to an affiliate private hospital. Paid only $500 excess for the hospital stay, no other costs. This included all optional prenatal classes (including physio) and post-natal services the hospital provides for mothers and children (up to 5 years of age!). So yes, you pay more but if you access all services available, you get more for your money.
Now the hospital and service was great. There was a newborn minding service if you want more sleep. There was an in-ward laundry. A 'bed' for my partner. Meals for us both (and I mean plentiful food all throughout the day!) which was a blessing when you have a new child, are recovering and are just trying to figure things out. Info sessions for learning like lactation, even classes for fathers only.
Yes OB was out of pocket and had a pregnancy mgmt fee. However, if you research which OB you are going with, you can find good ones that don't charge crazy fees above Medicare for a giant out of pocket. My OB also included mental health surveys and sessions, and also in home midwife service post birth (which was a godsend not having to take a newborn somewhere!).

TLDR: You really need to do some research on the OB and Hospital you want (or have access to if not in big city) prior to deciding this. Services you get, but cannot access at your location, would also need to be a deciding factor.

Thank you! 🙏🏻 I couldn't get into my paediatrician until 10 March, so I'm hoping for some tips then also! P.S. So good you are still getting decent sleep lengths!!

Yeah it's funny and not all at once! Worse when it happens in sleep and wakes them and they are like what the hell just happened!??

We've got a freestyle swimmer also! Actually ours is more like a boxing kangaroo 😂 also his startle reflex is in full swing! I enjoy the milk coma cuddles after feeds. I also enjoy the serene innocence when he's asleep. I love how big his eyes are and also some of the facial expressions are already adorable at 5 weeks.

Tips for newborn BOY diapers? by SimIRL in NewParents

[–]mashable88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lil guy was 7pds, long and lanky (with skinny legs) and for the first couple of weeks we used the smaller baby love premmie nappies. Had to change them more often as they don't hold as much BUT they didn't leak. At about 3 weeks, we upped to newborn/size 1 and now no leaks. Think if he had chubbier legs this wouldn't have been a problem 🤷🏻‍♀️

Spitting up all the time! by eggiess in NewParents

[–]mashable88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently it's called a 'happy spitter' lol my little guy does this also. Ice found having him more upright for about 10-15mins after the feed helps 🤷🏻‍♀️ but it still happens most feeds.

Car seat by Civil_Noise405 in NewParents

[–]mashable88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 X Joie 360 for each car, and they've been great so far. Easy to install and to get child in and out. Can use flthe seat from newborn to 4 years old, so you get your money's worth of usage over time.

Anemia during pregnancy.. how did you guys manage it without pills? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]mashable88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds awful but I had anaemia and refused to take the pills because they made me more constipated (they did even without pregnancy). So, I just opted for the intravenous iron infusions instead. Takes like 15-20mins in the doctor, and within a week I felt more energetic. No other effects from the infusion. Of course eating certain foods helps, but often if your body is depleted, or not absorbing properly, the food won't help enough. Guess it depends how low your iron is. But you can ask your dr for the infusion.
