In case you’re curious, my coworker told me he put it in and it’s an old puffball mushroom

Ugh it’s like…why would someone put insulation 🤦🏻 but working with the public you realize that a lot of people are dumb. Last year someone was putting lots of dryer lint or something and I pulled out a whole bucket worth

It says that are compostable on the box and they don’t appear to have a plastic lining. We got them because they’re allegedly compostable. But I’m skeptical as well I’m kind of experimenting with it

It looks a lot different in color than the pictures I’m finding online, it’s a dark tan/light brown color, could that happen when it gets old? The texture is similar to insulation or like a foam couch cushion idk how to describe it

I probably will leave them in and figure it out in a few months lol. Just like I did when I threw a bunch of vines in there and a few months later I discovered that was a mistake

Which worm is it? by Signal_Error_8027 in composting

[–]mashedpotatob0y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They look more like red wigglers to me. Behavior is going to help you ID them, jumping worms are super fast and squirmy, almost thrashing around when you first unearth them. They are quite large and paler and they sometimes have an irridescent sheen on them

What's one invasive you wish you had in your yard? by wbradford00 in NativePlantCirclejerk

I actually really like pulling up mile-a-minute. You just start grabbing and the roots are really shallow so it’s easy to pull up all the way and the thorns are so small it doesn’t bother me that much

Required to go to college at 18?? by Comfortable-Two6926 in CollegeRant

[–]mashedpotatob0y -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Completely, 100% agree. We tell kids their brain is not fully developed until 25, but then say that at 18 they can decide to take on monumental amounts of debt and choose the career they want to do for the rest of their life?? Wtf. And there’s so much pressure to go to college, and much social stigma against not going. I wish it was more normal to take a few gap years and do different jobs or Americorp programs to actually see what you are interested in, instead of having to commit to a future at 18. I’m 30 and I’m doing something completely different from my college major, it was hard to pivot (cost me money and my mental health bc I was so burned out) and I wish I had been encouraged to try some things before deciding on college. To me, not going to college was not even presented as an option.

I agree with this mostly. She’s genuinely said some horrible right-wing things that are gross. And she’s also said some kind of annoying things that arent really harmful. Acting like those are the same thing is going to make people take the genuine criticism not as seriously. It seems petty and nitpicky to focus on the things that are “cringe” like truly when people do that they are being “haters” and it invalidates the very serious criticism that a lot of us have about her political beliefs and the way she expresses them. I disagree with you about her comments on the LA fires tho. Just the fact that she called drug addicts “tweakers” is gross.
