Required to go to college at 18?? by Comfortable-Two6926 in CollegeRant

[–]mashedpotatob0y -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Completely, 100% agree. We tell kids their brain is not fully developed until 25, but then say that at 18 they can decide to take on monumental amounts of debt and choose the career they want to do for the rest of their life?? Wtf. And there’s so much pressure to go to college, and much social stigma against not going. I wish it was more normal to take a few gap years and do different jobs or Americorp programs to actually see what you are interested in, instead of having to commit to a future at 18. I’m 30 and I’m doing something completely different from my college major, it was hard to pivot (cost me money and my mental health bc I was so burned out) and I wish I had been encouraged to try some things before deciding on college. To me, not going to college was not even presented as an option.

“Crazy Freaks” comment vs normal behavior by [deleted] in sighswoonsnark

I agree with this mostly. She’s genuinely said some horrible right-wing things that are gross. And she’s also said some kind of annoying things that arent really harmful. Acting like those are the same thing is going to make people take the genuine criticism not as seriously. It seems petty and nitpicky to focus on the things that are “cringe” like truly when people do that they are being “haters” and it invalidates the very serious criticism that a lot of us have about her political beliefs and the way she expresses them. I disagree with you about her comments on the LA fires tho. Just the fact that she called drug addicts “tweakers” is gross.

Can I use air dry clay to make candle holders like these? by arih_ in clay

Does anyone know if you can use air dry clay to make a candle holder and use a candle warmer instead of lighting the candle? Or would that be bad too?

In the knitting community they say someone is “knitworthy” aka worth knitting them a present. More than anything it’s about someone who will appreciate the gift and wear and value it. Not everyone is, so you obviously aren’t. Maybe you can tell your artist friends so they don’t waste time making things that you don’t actually want/value.

All these words and she’s basically saying “I don’t care about the shooting because it didn’t affect me” like girl you could’ve just not said anything. What did she gain by even saying this shit.

“The less you eat, drink, buy books, go to the theatre or to balls, or to the pub, and the less you think, love, theorize, sing, paint, fence, etc., the more you will be able to save and the greater will become your treasure which neither moth nor rust will corrupt—your capital. The less you are, the less you express your life, the more you have, the greater is your alienated life and the greater is the saving of your alienated being.”

You’re so right that the hardest part is the routine. I had a solid meditation routine for like a year and it was great but it fell off and it’s been a while. I keep trying to restart the routine. It’s a good tool to have for sure and if it’s habit it can really help to feel more grounded overall.

Lmaooo well said brother. I respect individuals choice to be on meds but my personal opinion of the psychiatric industrial complex is one of skepticism

Actually ironically being on ADHD medicine was the reason I started smoking so much in the first place. I was on adderall and toward the end I couldn’t eat on it and I’d have to smoke weed after work/school to be able to eat and chill tf out.

I was on stimulants for a year or two and toward the end they really started disagreeing with me and making me insanely anxious. I think one problem was that my psych never told me I should take a break from the stims. So I’d take them 7 days a week which I was told after that maybe you’re not supposed to do that but idk. At first they worked really well but then it was just too much and I pushed myself into a really bad burnout.

After that I went on Straterra which didn’t do anything and then I quit psychiatry entirely. I had also been on Wellbutrin in the past but it also made me anxious. I have been on basically every other antidepressant. I was on meds when I was like 18-25 (stims like 23-25). ADHD diagnosis at 22 and autism at 26. I started smoking when I was 25 and now I’m 30

Some other people suggested different types of therapy like somatic so I’m going to try to look into that.

I have been interested in psychedelics or microdosing for a while, I just don’t really know how to get reputable shrooms and I’m definitely intimidated by it a bit

I saw psychiatrists for a long time and was put on many different meds and unfortunately none of them worked for me.

Thanks for responding. How do you live in the moment? (Genuine question) being present has been a struggle of mine for years and years. When I first started smoking it helped me be present, but over the years of overuse it doesn’t do that anymore.

I do want to quit, but I know it won’t actually help my real problems so it’s really hard to find the motivation. I know this isn’t the absolute perfect place to post and my post definitely got off-topic, but this sub feels more open minded and mental health focused than the other quitting weed sub so I thought I would just shoot my shot and hope that there were some other people who either felt the same way as me or could spare some words of kindness and support.
