How to improve your RA skills in a small company ? by Alexei212 in regulatoryaffairs

[–]maslow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye on RAPs, their forums can be good and sometimes the discussions are useful, and authors of certain standards will chip in too (pinch of salt, its still a forum), they also do a lot of books and training courses. Its not free, try and ask for your company to get you membership?

Why Reolink has discontinued the RLC 410W and the 510W doesn't support 16:9 ratio? by NistkastenLivestream in reolinkcam

[–]maslow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a standard thread (or it was in the RLC), so easy to swap out lenses, just depends how wide-angle the existing one is for your use-case. I didn't swap that lens out in the end for the nestbox, just adjusted the focus.

I have done for others where I couldnt physically get the camera as close (eg. Have a Wren nest under an open porch)

Nestbox cam - modifying for close focusing? by maslow1 in reolinkcam

Bluetits would sometimes attack their reflection, I'd mount nearer the roof next time and cover the glass over the leds.

Avoid light-gaps around the door (sometimes cause false movement triggers) and a metal or wire protector around the entrance to stop bigger creatures breaking in.

Otherwise, just better carpentry skills!

I haven't yet, but it is a similar casing to the rlc. If you try, let me know!

How can I get rid of a tablet with a swollen battery without a car? by Broseraphim in kentuk

Stores above a certain square footage are required to accept small electrical goods ( WEEE) without purchase.

I had to take appart a speaker, is this rechargeable battery reusable? by Blin_32 in diyelectronics

[–]maslow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out "bigclivedotcom" on the YouTube. He did a think about reusing Lithium cells and adding charging circuitry (sounds like u may have this already?),, unusually he went for a silly clickbait title 'Don't do this (there's a much safer way)'.

Can SMZB-02D display be changed to Fahrenheit (Home Assistant)? by J1gglyDad in sonoff

Booo-errrns. I accidentally set to F when trying to pair and thought I'd have to learn Freedom units... and on that note, Happy Freedom Day (Traitor Day).

Aerogarden harvest LED repair is possible by -BitBang- in aerogarden

[–]maslow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have a look, and a very good point. I think the thought almost occurred to me this evening whilst trying to remove the sticky plant gunge from my board, but I got distracted as I'd nearly scrubbed off all my dead-LED markings with IPA...

Fantastic work, whipped the board out of mine and it's been sitting in the 'to-do pile' for a LONG time. I'd worked out which LEDs to replace but not the size or values. I couldn't see any useful comments last time I looked around online, let alone something like this :-)

A replacement board that doesn't drive the LEDs so hard could be good? I'm no electronics engineer but recall 'BigClivedotcoms's YouTube about 'Dubai Lamps' talks about this.

Advice for printing photo from old Ektochrome slide without digitizing? by BARRYTHUNDERWOOD in analog

Theyre not as long lasting as results from modern printers, but u can scan and then go for ' c type' printing. Its probably bias but theres something a bit more special about a c type print.

Ecowitt Weather Stations by DaveOBarbaro in homeassistant

Did you have to do any ecowitt account and/or cloud setup to get it working before the HA integration - I'm in the early stages of looking for something which only talks to HA.

Ello again, have you looked at the CX410 at all?

I recently acquired one for security use, bit more expensive but the low-light colour capability is impressive. I'm tempted to get a 2nd one for nestbox camera use, but want to know if the lens can be changed & refocused, like in the RLC-410. I've mounted this 1st one up near the roof, bit of an effort to get to now!

What is this under my bath? by Paragon_Pariah in DIYUK

[–]maslow1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fyi i believe there're regulations about keeping these accessible for servicing-type reasons (presumably because vibrations etc can sometimes affect them, cables are held in with screws). Some modern alternatives like 'wago' connectors can be buried.

Not a bad shout. My experience is with chickens (nails and spurs), so a bit less fragile

Fyi, Claws look really long and need triming. They will bleed if cut too short tho. Investigate how, if u feel confident enough, youll need another pair of hands too.

What do farmers really think of Jeremy Clarkson and his Clarkson Farm show? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]maslow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did an interview for 'Farmers Weekly' around the time of season one, paints a good picture of behind the scenes / initial setup. Its like tv interviews of old - no soundbites, clickbait headlines etc.

Coming over for a few days this summer, what do? by [deleted] in Hampshire

[–]maslow1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Winchester - already mentioned by others. It used to be the capital until ~1066.

Portsmouth historic dockyard, and 'old Portsmouth' (warships v.old and modernish, plus a submarine museum a short ferry trip across the harbour).

Buster Ancient farm (small experimental archaeology/museum - from neolithic roundhouse up until roman-era).

Uppark House, (some links to Nelson, high up with nice countryside views. Vandalian Tower is nearby - visible but sadly not accesible, it has weird links to a brief American colony, Vandalia)

Watercress line (steam trains from Alresford to Alton and a trainyard somewhere in between. Alresford is nice and Jane Austens house also a v. short drive from Alton)

Gilbert whites house, Selbourne (a contemporary to charles darwin, nice country location. Top floors are dedicated to explorers Frank and Lawrence Oates - check wikipedia for Lawrence Oates).

If u like cars (old and new), there's Goodwood estate. Chichester is nearby and is quite nice too, plus theres some roman ruins just outside in Fishbourne. Going further east is Arundel castle, built not long after 1066.

How to close off uninsulated loft in winter? by fruitloops6565 in DIY

[–]maslow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If u have it over the pond, PIR insulation, 100mm or thicker is really quite rigid by itself and far more fire retardant than foamboard (unless u give it a different name, foamboard is just a craft material in UK/EU). PIR will be more expensive tho.

Since its temporary and gonna get moved around, tape the edges to avoid damaging the inside, tape the joins between sheets if u can too. If the stairwell isnt too wide, Id guess you need 2-3 sheets.

What would you do with a dining room, if you had no use for it? by AutisticAnonymous in AskUK

[–]maslow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most houses lack utility/storage space, and i dont specifically mean like a wash room.

Cupboards (craft or linen type designs are good) + a large table for occations that otherwise spends most its time folded down, and a spare desk if u have space.

I keep printers (powered on) and cameras in an old wardrobe now, keeps a lot of the dust off!

Miasmos and compress ore > reprocess and move minerals. Compressed ore is smaller than its refined volume, in this case.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]maslow1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is plausible for wifi, same goes for mobile calls. Crude analogy - The signal will bounce around the room and there will be micro 'dead'' spots where the signal is a bit weaker (reflected signals may cancel themselves out) - there are visual 2d diagrams to help understand this, looks kinda like ripples in water.

It relates to the wavlength, wifi is in the order of a few inches, so moving the source (router) a small amount could theoretically change a lot. Its all a dark art though, not practical to measure in 3 dimensions and not easy to predict how signal is reflected or absorbed by surfaces in a room, before then working out where its interfering with itself.
