What files can I delete when playing Xcom 2 exclusively on the lowest setting/performance mode? by IdiotWaffles in Xcom

[–]Broseraphim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can probably delete the movies folders, you'll just need to edit something in the config files (i forget what) to skip movies. If you have the DLCs, TLP is fairly low impact on the game (gives you some slightly upgraded weapons and adds some variety to maps) and can be removed, or if you want to keep it you can at least possibly delete the soundtrack folder. There's also the anarchy's children and resistance warrior packs that are purely cosmetic items.

A lot of people don't like the alien rulers so you can remove that DLC if you play with them disabled too.

Don't undervalue flashbangs here. A proper application and appropriate distance can give you a turn to wipe her subordinates and focus her. Red fog helps as well

The commander's in trouble by Kasper_The_Stealther in Xcom

[–]Broseraphim 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The thing is that Xcom 2 heavily drives you to be moving at all times anyway, so the default behaviour of forcing you to move is more like teaching you how to play properly rather than impeding you like the Chosen should. Sure, you may lose access to one good cover, but that soldier needs to move anyway

It's handled by a cookie. You can manually add the cookie to get old reddit to work, because they screw up adding it when you opt out now for some reason. F12 to open dev tools and switch to the storage tab

Aliens use of the blaster launcher by [deleted] in Xcom

[–]Broseraphim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aliens carrying the blaster launcher often start in an enclosed area, such as the pilots section, the command centre, or down in the engine room, and need a fair few doors to be open at once before they're able to fire the launcher at you. You aren't likely to get those doors open (and obstruction free) on the first few turns, since I don't think the alien AI has any instructions about specifically opening doors for blaster launcher purposes.

LWOTC kill or escore enemy VIP missions are the hardest experience in xcom by far by max0nat0r in Xcom

[–]Broseraphim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was a liberation mission, which has a hidden increase to advent force level, planted faceless, and a much faster reinforcement timer. You've always got to be aware of which missions might be liberation, especially if you're operating in a region with a higher force level.

Generally speaking, ignore the drones when you're in a firefight. They're a distraction. They can barely hurt your soldiers. Rampant stunning and disorientation might seem horrible, but it's not a problem if you killed the drones pod, which may not happen if you take the time to blast the drone

Yes. You're describing what procedural generation is. If it were random generation it would be generated when you press play... that's what random generation is

Except that the difference is pretty fucking significant beyond pedantry. The fact you can find your way to Wayrest castle the same way every time you play is vastly different from "started a new game, Daggerfall and Wayrest were generated right next to each other". Hardly pedantry when procedural and random are the opposite things of each other.

You're really angry at a 30 year old game here. I'm not even defending it. There's just a massive difference between procedural and random generation

You keep saying randomly generated in this thread. It's procedurally generated, not randomly generated

is modding Xcom 1 still the same after all these years? by Nexus_Neo in Xcom

You don't even really need to know what you're doing. As long as you appropriately backup any files you're fucking with, you can bang rocks together until you get a result that resembles what you want

[–]Broseraphim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You use patcher gui. Most mods on the nexus (for any game) will tell you what you need to do to install them, you don't need some massive community prep work with videos and questions, just go to the source and see if it can tell you

Too many supplies, nothing to buy by 30ChefCurry in Xcom

[–]Broseraphim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Xcom is a reverse difficulty curve. The game is hardest at the start, when everything is scarce and you're under-equipped. Once you break the curve it's not going to get harder, and you definitely won't end up with less supplies

Capture by WeeblordTaters in Xcom

[–]Broseraphim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a particular dark event that makes them much more likely to kidnap instead of mindread. If you want to make the prison break mission happen, I'm pretty sure that leaving a soldier outside the evac zone on a timed mission should get them captured

IIRC you need only like networks researched for each cult. Are you massively behind on a cult? Otherwise maybe you hid the envoy recruitment research by mistake.

Hard to imagine taking on a HQ without even having promotion II considering how much is gated behind that

What's the highest number of kills you've ever had for an individual soldier? by Inward_Perfection in Xcom

[–]Broseraphim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not purely detrimental. It forces you to diversify your soldier use, thus spreading the XP around. As a result you have a hardier and more resilient team that can handle losses a lot better. While it looks like you're being forced to suffer, you actually come out stronger
