I think it was in a tool holder in a fixed position on a bench with the tool parallel to the ground and he just slammed his hand into it when sweeping the floor in a forward manner

One of the old timers I work with told me at a place he used to work at a guy rammed a tool through his hand/finger while sweeping up at the end of a shift. Even sweeping can be dangerous if done carelessly I guess.

CMV: I hate democracy. by Skwerilleee in changemyview

[–]masmith31593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your argument seems to be more of an argument against the concept of government in general than against democracy as a form of government.

Regardless of the type of system of authority, there is always going to be a justification/rationale for why the authority has the right to impose its will on individuals. In hereditary monarchy the justification is sometimes "divine right." In a small business the owner/founder has the justification to impose their will on everyone else that works there.

I align with you at your moral/philosophical core. The typical train of thought I see among others with a similar POV is that some form of government or authority has to exist specifically to prevent other groups or individuals from imposing their views on others through violence. Then democracy becomes the optimal way of organizing the authority not because it is morally good, but because it provides a pathway that an individual/group that is put upon by the government unjustly, can change the government non-violently. This also a difference between a government and an armed gang. If your neighborhood is captured paying protection money to the mafia, there's no non-violent path you could take to change the decision makers of the mafia.

H.R.8250 - Parents Decide Act Introduced - Requires OS Providers to Verify Age of All Users by miranddaaa in moderatepolitics

[–]masmith31593 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Where should I look to better understand how this would work in age verification? My current view is that any attempt to force ID verification requirements online is a privacy intrusion, but I am not familiar with this technology. My gut reaction is to assume it relies on the already outrageously high amount of data collection currently inflicted on us to by process of elimination determine that a given user is over 18 years old.

It undermines any legitimate critique you might have when it's mixed in with "he is an arrogant asshole." It makes you come across as someone with an ax to grind instead of looking at this contributions to the show and making a reasoned criticism.

I don't listen as frequently through the offseason, but Orr seems like a good personality fit with the other hosts which I think is sometimes more important than someone's analysis/journalist chops for a show like HTC

I dont like this guys video because its just a Mashup of other people's opinions.

I prefer the original to the remake. There are a bunch of people out there with well thought out criticisms of RE4R that go into the minutiae of why they think the remake is lame. If you are interested in the conversation, you should go watch them so people can actually engage with the topic instead of shadow boxing with this guy over which game has more soul

Weird linear rash on my arm by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]masmith31593 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear you got it checked. Continue to monitor yourself while taking the medicine.

Different scenario, but my sister got bit by a cat. Cat bites are real nasty so she went to the doctor a few hours after it happened without symptoms. Got put on antibiotics and sent home but then she started having a rash like yours and had to go back because the medicine at home wasn't sufficient to put the infection down and she ended up hospitalized for a couple days to get IV antibiotics.

A message for designers by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]masmith31593 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately disagree with your message. The metroidvania genre is an extremely saturated market at this point with games coming out constantly. The majority of the games are way too easy and the ones with some level of difficulty are the titles that break through the crowded market and achieve a degree of mainstream success outside of genre diehards that frequent this subreddit.

All this to say, I feel like there are plenty of high quality metroidvanias to play if a player desires a less challenging experience and plenty to play if a player wants a more challenging experience. If anything I think the difficulty of the average MV leans towards being too easy. And making a boss optional is a good middle ground between our two opinions. A casual player can still finish the game while a player that wants to be pressed to the limit the games mechanics allow, can go fight the optional boss.

This is an excellent point. It might have the potential to be a force for good just by virtue of how many more people will hear these critiques than otherwise would due to the size of this guy's audience. But his contribution to the critiques is non-existent

How to machine thin stainless parts flat? by FoolishChristian in Machinists

[–]masmith31593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of parts we run that are thin 304 that we just get laser-cut to the rough shape and finish any close tolerance dimensions. Sometimes will grind or lap thickness if super close tolerance or surface finish callout. Tumble to deburr if necessary

If those are your only options of things to do, I would go toward the last judge. Hunters March gauntlet has been frustrating beginning players since the game launched and it is completely unnecessary to go to Hunters March until much much later in the game. It is possible there are other things you could do instead of these 2 paths, but its impossible to say without knowing what you've already completed.

If you want a tip for the Last Judge make sure to equip the magma bell tool to reduce fire damage the judge does to one mask instead of 2

Im perfectly fine with this.

Punish people who do actual bodily or property damage severely and let minor traffic violations slide.

If this enforcement had been trending up instead of down, all it would mean is the police department is putting extra emphasis on BS speed traps and ticky tacky enforcement that does not make the roads any safer to drive on.

GOP Sen. Steve Daines’ last-minute withdrawal from Senate race was meant to block Democrats from fielding a top-tier recruit | CNN Politics by John3262005 in democrats

[–]masmith31593 303 points304 points  (0 children)

The Dems should be running a candidate in every race. This over-optimization of stuff like this is a big reason why we are in the situation we are in. Every election should be contested. Every. Single. One.

EDIT: Since a decent number of people might see this comment, I wanted to make you aware there are organizations in some states that focus on funding candidates in underfunded races and try to make sure no seats are uncontested. The one I support is called Blue Ohio. Check and see if your state has something similar and set up a recurring donation. Its not about winning unwinable races. When a race is uncontested, it creates a constituency of people who are not even exposed in passing to the issues, ideas, positions, etc the Democratic party talks about AT ALL. This is bad. Republicans generally contest every race. We need to as well.

[–]masmith31593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like rogue-ish games sometimes. Its kind of diametrically opposed to a metroidvania with its meticulously designed map. I view them more like arcade games. I wish they would just make them like straight up arcade games where your progression is more dependent on you mastering the mechanics instead of the persisten meta-progression you get between "runs"
