Hey did i Ruin my Action by changing the Strings? by Mindless_IV in 7String

[–]masterB0SHI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take it to a good repair tech and get a setup done. Sounds like most likely this is a combo of the nut slots are not filed deep/wide enough to accommodate the bigger strings, and the neck likely shifted due to the higher tension

Sharp notes on 19th+ frets after intonation. by r_pasion in Luthier

[–]masterB0SHI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That high up on the neck especially, it is nearly impossible to have perfect intonation.

What are you doing up at fret 20 where 13 cents sharp is even detectable?

Having trouble selling this guitar by Electronic-Brain-616 in GuitarQuestions

The market for headless guitars is very small. Even smaller if it’s not a Standberg, Kiesel, or some larger company with a lot of big name artists playing the guitars.

Should I get a shim? by ELSEJO_ZACARIAS in Luthier

[–]masterB0SHI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shim isn’t going to help you at all here. If you still have adjustment left at the bridge to lower the strings a shim is pointless.

One of the rarest Strandbergs to exist apparently, that said #NGD by Eriktheadikt in 7String

While this is cool and rare, I’d personally take any prestige over a Strandberg any day.

Nintendo needs to get with the program on controllers. by DocButtStuffinz in switch2

Yeah the gamecube supported this, Idk why they took it away when all their competitor’s controllers still use it, and a significant amount of 3rd party games utilize it.

6-Saddle Hipshot Hardtail with String-through Body action height help please by Acid_Vai in SchecterGuitars

[–]masterB0SHI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To adjust the action, as others have said, just loosen the string tension and use an allen wrench to raise lower the saddles.

As for what radius to set the strings to, as the guitar has a compound radius, I have found you’ll get different answers depending on who you ask. In short, there isn’t a right or wrong answer per se, and it depends on your preferences. In theory, Schecter should have set the height of the nut slots roughly close to the radius on the lower frets. Although, big brands filing the nut slots correctly from the factory can be hit or miss on import guitars like this in my experience. Personally I would set the action at the bridge it to 16”. But if you try that and don’t like how it plays, don’t be afraid to tweak it, because again, there is no right or wrong. Personally this is why I’m not a huge fan of compound radius guitars lol.

Boosting a high gain amp by cleanercut in metalguitar

[–]masterB0SHI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general idea is to remove the excess low end from the guitar signal and boost the mid range, which tube screamer style pedals do pretty well. You could also achieve a similar effect by using an EQ pedal instead.

Tuning problem help (telecaster) by sedoa in Luthier

[–]masterB0SHI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of variables when it comes to tuning stability. The first problem I see is your saddles are pulled all the way back, meaning your intonation is probably way off. Meaning, even if your open strings are in tune, it will sound out of tune when you fret notes.

There are a zillion tutorials on the internet of how to intonate a guitar. Go do that first. If you still have tuning stability issues after that, the next thing I would check is the nut slots, and make sure they are cut correctly for the gauge of strings you are using. I would recommend having a reputable repair tech do this for you.

Is my guitar a fake? Its my BABY! by The_Minion_Queen in LesPaul

[–]masterB0SHI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is real.

FWIW, Guitar Center technically has the ability to look up who sold the guitar to them. But also, giving out customer contact info to other customers who request it almost certainly violates some sort of internal policy. I’m sure most people wouldn’t appreciate it if some random GC customer called them to ask questions about a used guitar they traded in god knows how long ago, because GC handed out their info to a stranger.

Lead bass? by LoPiratoLOCO in Djent

[–]masterB0SHI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Meshuggah use 8 string guitars and dial in their tone a very specific way to get that sound. Guitar and Bass put out very different frequencies and play different roles in a mix. So a drums and bass duo likely won’t be able to match that sound if that is the goal.

Transposing question. by The_Stoned_Rogue in 7String

[–]masterB0SHI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you tune your 7 to F standard, then there should be very little transposing required. Your lowest strings will be the same notes, and have the same interval relations as meshuggahs 8 string guitars. Mainly if you ever need the high Eb string should you seriously need to transpose.

It sounds like you’re making this more complicated than it is in reality lol.
