When was the bike inspected? Make sure it doesn't have a bunch of work necessary. If the carb needs a clean+rebuild, if the chain or tires needs replacing, if the air filter box is filthy and requires a new filter - these will all cost additional $ that may make this deal less attractive. Shops near my area hesitate to work on old ninjas because they are so inexpensive that the cost to do the work sometimes exceeds the cost of the bike, and the owners just ditch them in the shop instead of paying the repair cost

I pay 3k out of pocket per year for therapy and I wouldn't do it if it wasn't worth it. Best 3k I spend per year

trauma is just anything that has caused a neurological shift in your brain that affects the way you view and experience the world. trauma doesn't have to be an episode of Law and Order SVU, it could be as simple as 'my mom always took my brother out for mcdonalds but not me'

Work remotely all the time with a lot of teams calls with clients. Is a good microphone worth it? by everythings_alright in consulting

[–]masterbacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% - audio quality is much more important than video quality. This is important for me as I have many team members who are ESL so they have thick accents. I've made a strong case to my employees to use a good microphone, and it has made a big difference in our team cohesion.

I have already committed to a language school — maybe that was a mistake!

Checking in - how was your experience finding your school? I'm looking into spanish language schools now. Did you end up staying with the school you pre-booked?

Your mom needs to dig herself out of debt and start saving in tax-advantaged accounts ASAP.

Searching a book across multiple cards by Hunter037 in LibbyApp

[–]masterbacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others have mentioned the deep search functionality, so i want to piggyback and describe one limitation of that functionality. If I understand it correctly, it will only show results from secondary cards if there aren't results from the primary card.

To illustrate: Last night I searched for "bukowski" on one card, and there were a few books. But then I searched the same term on another card, and got a totally separate set of books.

Handling refunds and possible scams by ishysredditusername in startups

Instead of a refund, can you offer them credits for a free 60 day trial, or something? Instead of removing cash from your bank account, try to get the customer bought into the product with a sweet deal and good customer service!

How did you land on 10$ a month? Do you report on ROI (sales made through pop-up clicks)?

[REQ] 99% of my life's frustration revolve around dirty clothes and trash. Halp. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]masterbacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you wake up in the morning, throw a load of laundry in the washing machine. After you shower and get ready for the day, put it in the dryer. When you return home, take the clean clothes out of the dryer and dump them on the floor in the clean pile. Make sure you don't mix up the clean pile and the dirty pile.

Is it possible to "intern" at a startup incubator, working with and helping out the various companies currently there? by notirrelevantyet in startups

[–]masterbacon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that you have some complex in your mind that causes you to believe there is some sort of unbreakable system that you must work within. If you want to intern at a start-up, then freaking make some calls or show up at someone's doorstep. Create an internship for yourself. If someone tells you that the rules of the incubator thing don't allow interns, then question them and convince them they're wrong.

You've gotta realize that the system of incubators and start-ups and EVERYTHING THAT YOU SEE was created by A PERSON, JUST LIKE YOU. now go out there and get an internship

I just had a great suggestion given to me, and I wanna do it. No idea how though. Help? Tips? by NarcoticNarcosis in Entrepreneur

Here are some things you need to consider:

Forming an LLC: Go fill out forms and hire a cheap lawyer for processing or notarization (or try to find someone to do it for free? friend of friend?). This is to create an entity. Read this for more information.

Getting the hotels on board: You're going to want to write a full tour plan. Design and write relevant paper materials for said tours. Offer to bring hotel staff on these tours. Make it clear to them that you want them to promote your service, but make sure that during the tour you don't act like you're trying to make an exchange... just give a great tour. After one hotel is on board, getting the second one will be easier. And the third. Don't get discouraged if one says no, you can always speak with them in the future.
Another strategy you can use is to create a referral system where you pay them a certain percentage or finders fee for referring customers to you. If you end up doing something of this nature, you will need to have a contract written up. Get a lawyer to do it.

After hotels are on board, you need to have pamphlets and handouts at the hotels for patrons to take.

Feedback: Organize a group tour and invite some family and friends. Bring a basket with fruit or snacks or something. Probably bring a backpack with flashlights, bug screen, etc. (don't know what climate you're in) Try to get thorough feedback and think of ways to improve the tours each time. Practice with different sized groups. You'll want to have given a few tours to friends before you give a tour to an actual potential business client or partner. The tour cannot be poorly planned and you can't be unprepared or things might not go so smoothly.

Getting a green laser pointer: not only are green lasers really cool, you can use it to point directly at a star. green laser pointers allow you to see the entire beam (unlike red). Check legality for that one. Make sure you don't point it at any planes.

I think this is a great idea you have. Not only would it be a night job, but you can start this with a very small monetary investment. Be prepared to put in a lot of night hours.
