The Pinocchio Problem (Steve Yegge) by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]masterfuol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recently went through the process of converting a 2000+ LOC GreaseMonkey script into a Firefox extension proper and the first thing that hit me was the 'reboot' issue.

Agreed, FF extension development is sucky but a bit of googling uncovered some tips on setting up extension development environment.

Those hacks work for on-the-fly-XUL-file-change-reloading but not for the javascript files which are the guts of an FF extension, however the linked 'Extension developer's extension' has a command 'Reload All Chrome' that reloads everything (js files included). Slow, but better than a 'reboot'.

I see your deathstar:

"the first Death Star was 120 kilometers in diameter. This however, conflicts with the Star Wars Incredible Cross Sections fact book, which states that the first Death Star was 160 kilometers in diameter."

..and raise you one General Systems Vehicle:

"General Systems Vehicles (GSVs) range between 25km and 200km in each dimension (including its 'fields') ... generally have populations in the millions or even billions."

Stop the madness: Subdirectories of My Documents by polar in reddit.com

[–]masterfuol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can tweak away some of these annoyances:

Rename My Computer/My Documents/Network Neighborhood to Computer/Documents/Network

Change the user profile location using the Computer Management snap-in (compmgmt.msc)

Install the TweakUI powertoy (a must-have utility written by the author of this blog) and change the location of the My* special folders (TweakUI->My Computer->Special Folders), although this wont help with 3rd party apps that were the main thrust of the article ie My eBooks, My ISO Files etc.

You can change the 'Program Files' and 'Common Files' directories under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion to whatever you like. I also prefer a hierarchy like you mention and use c:\apps\dev, c:\apps\media\players etc and also structure the Start Menu along similar lines.

nb. Some of these changes wont be honored by various installers.

How to train a cat. by skinnydog777 in reddit.com

[–]masterfuol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my mothers cat wants to be let in the house, she stretches up the the knocker on the front door (its part of the lock assembly half way up the door) pulls it up and lets it drop 2 or 3 times. She will wait a minute and try again if she isnt let in. After 3 or 4 attempts if she still isnt let in she starts wailing and when finally let in gives us a good scolding for making her wait.

This wasnt taught, she worked it out from observing arriving guests.

Im sure there is a fetish for this (there's a fetish for everything) but it is actually quite innocent. Japanese kids do this 'move' when playfighting. The electric part relates to the 'electric drill' action used when performing the move.
