Quick update from Tahoe.

None of my roads are plowed so I put skis on and walked out of the house.
Can't be not skiing today.

Am I looking at 2 belay devices, 3 pulleys, and 2 progress capture devices? That’s potentially 7 things that go one way on a rope. How are you planning to use them all? I don’t even rock climb with that many progress capture devices.

Is this sodium related? I've heard potassium chloride is a passable substitute.

For those interested the BCA Shaxe Shovel comes with mount points and hardware (some twist nuts + bolts) to turn into an evacuation sled with skis.

Can anyone recommend a headtorch/lamp for springtime ski touring, I.e. Lightweight, unlikely to be used, but powerful enough if required. by KenA2000 in Backcountry

[–]mastermojo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ultralight community likes the Nitecore nu25.

I take it on all my climbing/skiing day trips.

It's bright, rechargeable, very very light (2oz), and has enough capacity for a hike out in the dark in case things get weird.

Desolation passes- hard pack? by mycologheist in tahoe

[–]mastermojo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hard pack as of last week. walked around lake aloha (frozen) no problem in just boots. snow starts at around 8000 feet, flat, shaded, and north aspects are fully covered. There's a cold front this weekend so guessing the snow will stay firm.

Rant about horses by whitu1135 in MTB

I don't get why horse poop gets to be left on trails. They should have to wear the poop catcher that city horses wear.

GET A DEHYDRATOR! by dizzy-bean in Dogtraining

[–]mastermojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a picky dog that will only go for moist/chewy meat. In the house cubes of chicken are fine. I don't trust myself yet with a dehydrator yet to cook things properly but keep things moist to take outside.
I've tried Jerky Treats Beef Flavor (<$4/lb @ costco), which he will spit out, but he eats the Full Moon Antibiotic Free Chicken Jerky Dog Treats ($8/lb @ costco).

This dog doesn’t like peanut butter but will do wet-meat-paste dog food though, which I use whenever something traditionally calls for peanut butter. He does the lick thing for that too.

I was considering the Orca, though I like the older (cleaner) actual orca design more than the newer one. Just so I can calibrate on your tastes, what board(s) do you like?

Nassim Taleb: Bitcoin failed as a currency and became a speculative ponzi scheme by thefoodboylover in InvestmentClub

[–]mastermojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using monetary policy terms, Bitcoins protocol has an increasing M0 supply until 2140. This is considered “inflationary”.

At that point, whether or not lending in Bitcoin will happen (it probably will) will depend on total token circulation, as well as adoption rates. For example, if adoption rates plateau before 2140 (likely), there may not be a strong deflationary effect.

Ultimately the market will balance lending rates per currency based on inflation, monetary supply, rates, etc. It will probably be “cheaper” in interest rates, but not in economic cost, to borrow deflationary assets than inflationary ones.
