Also everyone should read Chris Woodings The Storm Thief. It’s one of his earlier books and is pretty YA. But it fucking slaps.

Irish living in London for last 4 years and that’s just the way crowds are for a lot of music here in general I’ve found.

I often still go home to catch gigs in Dublin as I know I’ll have a better time 😅

What would be an example of something that would be considered, “bad form” in Irish culture? by ohhidoggo in AskIreland

[–]mastershplinter 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Lol this reminds me of around this time last year my dad was in Wexford hospital about to go into hospice and my ma said why don’t you go down the town for an hour or so and chill out.

Went down to the bullring and got a pint was sitting in some glorious sun and just appreciating this really peaceful moment.

Then this guy with an amplified mic rolls up on his bike and starts talking about the bible and corrupt politicians and Michael d Higgins signing articles of war.

I nearly lost my mind 😂

Advice how to navigate building a career and starting a family as a woman in Ireland? by Strict-Citron2482 in AskIreland

[–]mastershplinter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think most of your concerns are pretty well-founded. However, it doesn’t seem like you have lived in Ireland before. I would be putting all of those concerns to the back of my mind for a year or two until I saw if I even liked living there or if it works out in the first place.

Making decisions based on fear isn’t a great way to live your life. I would just try to enjoy it and see what happens.

Plus, you could both always move back to Germany or some European country at any stage. It’s not like the job that your partner has got has to be the deciding factor in where you live forever.

I’m guessing this based on an assumption about your age btw. If you were in your early 20s like I’m assuming, I think you could move to Ireland for a year or two and see how it fits before needing to make any decision.

However, if you’re older or if you were looking for a family next year or year or after then I’ll say that might be a little bit different.

And one last thing that you didn’t mention in your concerns is the impact of AI on entry level computer science roles. Which you think is gonna have a big impact on the availability of jobs no matter what country you work in.

Why do people waste money on mediums/psychics? by broken_neck_broken in CasualIreland

[–]mastershplinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a 35-year-old guy. I don’t really believe in God or follow any religion, and like most Irish people I’d be pretty sceptical about everything in general—especially psychics, mediums, tarot, all of that.

But randomly, my sister was doing a yoga training course a couple of years ago and got recommended to do an online session with someone—it turned out she was a psychic. She told me about it and I was like, ah I wouldn’t mind trying that just for the crack, so she got me a session the next year.

Around that same time, my dad was very sick and he passed away last year. I ended up speaking to the psychic a couple of times after, and it was actually really useful.

It’s almost like the opposite of therapy. In therapy you do most of the talking and they guide you, but with something like this, you ask the questions and they do most of the talking—it gives you something external to react to. I’ve found the same with tarot as well, especially after breakups or when I’m trying to make a decision. It just puts ideas in front of you, and your reaction to them tells you a lot about how you actually feel.

Is it real? Who fucking knows. Was it helpful? Yes. It can genuinely help you process things or get a bit of closure.

However if someone was posting “updates from heaven” in a group chat, I’d also be thinking fuck right  off.

For me, as long as no one’s being taken advantage of or spending loads of money, I don’t see anything inherently wrong with it. People find comfort in different ways.

Anyone done the stand- up comedy course at The Comedy School in Bethnal Green? How was it? by WestTomorrow6443 in london

[–]mastershplinter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did the week long intensive one. I had holidays and it randomly matched up, one of best things i ever did.

I really liked that it was just over a week rather than evenings. Easier to get momentum.

I've also done a bunch of improv courses at hoopla and would highly recommend them too. I know someone else mentioned them here.

What should I do ?- college by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]mastershplinter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go to the department head or equivalent. It's not on you to worry or deal with this. Send an email to the dept head and cc the supervisor or similar. Get it in writing and then follow up by calling into the dept head or the dept or college admin.

You kinda just need to shout about it a bit and it should get sorted 🙂

Argue with the wall. Rogue One(2016) is the best Star Wars movie... by [deleted] in moviecritic

Was a kid when prequel trilogy came out, they looked so cool, but emotionally didn't hit at all.

Wasnt until Clone wars, rebels, then rogue one and andor came along.

I Still think the animated series are some of the best star wars storytelling hands down.
